I found it boring and bland.

Vigilante 8 2nd offence was the GOAT

But tbh, these racer shooter games have had there time. theres a reason they havent had any sort of resurgence since PS2 days, the 'next gen' phase of consoles had an attempted but they werent good games, hence why they havent come back.

I think both are very good in their own way.

Everything can be revived nowadays so, if done right, a new entry in the series can surely find a market. Not every game needs to be a multi million dollar success.
