Rumor: Destruction All Stars devs are making a Twisted Metal game

It was a global phenomenon

I know it wasn't popular lol

Just wondering if it's because it sucked or.. i dunno.. because something else.

They are pretty experienced at vehicle games in general so not like it's GUARANTEED a TM game from them would suck.

I would much prefer a remaster of the first two titles on PS1 and Black from PS2.
Oh how many hours my roommate in college and I spent deathmatching on the rooftops!!

Hopefully it's good.
Love Twisted Metal but a TV show tie in game from a studio that hasn't really done a lot of good stuff doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I hope they do at least stay true to the 90's edge theme and don't go all Fortnite on it.

I know David Jaffe has commented on it, but what does Twisted Metal need to do to thrive in the modern era?

Great franchise but the gameplay loop needs a revamp.

Awesome. Another series ruined by woke trash.
Care to elaborate? The information, albeit little, doesn't point to any such thing...

Hopefully it's good.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm hoping for. I adore TM, and want another REALLY good one. But the whole show tie in thing rubs me wrong.

Agreed. I doubt they will, but I'd hope they'd lean harder into TM: Black territory, or even just an edgy 90's vibe. Both would work.

David Jaffe must be loving the rumour.

If this dev makes the game, can they at least sort out the pricing? LOL..... $70 disc, no wait it's a PS+ game, no wait it'll be digital download for $20 after PS+.

Surprised they didn't change it up and make it $40 discs.

Problem with destruction all stars is having to chase people that shit is annoying as hell, having weapons would have made such a huge difference. I guess this is their chance to do just that.

Destruction All Stars was absolute wank, hopefully they get their shit together for a beloved franchise revival like this

Honestly - good.

The only bad thing here is this is what Destruction All Stars should have been in the first place. That game is boring, but it is technically extremely sound. The visuals are clean and runs at a perfect frame rate. It feels great and all the cars handle differently, and well. If all the technical trappings of that game were wrapped around pure Twisted Metal gameplay - I'm all in.

The game worked, just had little to no content. The characters were awful, art direction was a major miss, and quite frankly - nothing about it was memorable.

Was that game any good? I know it got thrown on PS+, surely lots of people tried it?
Mediocre sprincled with bad decisions.

Core gameplay was fun, but lacked content to keep players invested for the long run. They also placed the singleplayer mode behind a paywall. And game needed more balancing. Some characters was OP while other was completely useless. In some matches u could see if the players would not be able to pick 1 of the OP characters they would just quit and try another match, leaving alot of matches with just a few player playing, and in this game if the arena is not full of players where u can hit with ur car, you just wast time chasing the few ones playing and is just not fun anymore.

What? We just throw that word around with absolutely no context now, huh?

I'm definitely down for a new Twisted Metal. Like others have said, Destruction's gameplay was solid.

It's not necessarily what I want but these days it would probably need to work like a GaaS to stay relevant.
F2P, lots of visual customization options, something like a battle pass, ranked modes and consistent content updates with new cosmetics, a new map from time to time, new cars, seasonal events, etc.

Unless you are some massively popular franchise you can't just release a multiplayer heavy $60 game these days

This could be good as DAS had solid presentation and seemingly decent controls (I never played it). Twisted metal has the gameplay blueprint so if they can take that and add their flair it COULD be ok. We'll have to see. Just make a modernized TW:B

It needs to maintain its dark tone though that's for sure

I'd prefer to get a new Wipeout instead (a normal one for PS, not a cards based one for mobile).

I assume it makes sense, but I never have been interested in Twisted Metal, but regarding vehicle combat Jaffe games I really liked Chasing All Cars.

How else am I supposed to express the fact that my opposition to progressive themes in video games is at the core of my entire identity?

If they’re all depicted as crazy it’d be rather fitting anyway. :messenger_winking_tongue:

I just hope it’s dark.

The game featured a fat black woman character.. it really upset certain folks lol

Honestly it's probably 90% of the images from the game posted on NeoGAF.. that character's little intro "card."

Well it is disgusting but I suppose it’s no different than being able to play drug addicts like Trevor in GTAV.

Cool, maybe we’ll get another PS+ game for PS5 out of this. Destruction Allstars was dumb fun, and visually was pretty well done. I haven’t put even 10 hours into yet, but it’s an option. I think it’s a very Playstation-y game and always welcome that.

I don't know, not really interested in multiplayer games or Twister Metal to be honest, but I can see that there could be some sense in this.

Certainly a lot more sense than the above post anyway.
I'm not even bothered by people making a noise for their own sake, it's just such a lazy tabloid style word that people seem to enjoy using when they know they have nothing real to say. Its really not the lack of linguistic aptitude that it signifies when people use words that have been so overused out of context that they lose lose all real value, it's the laziness in electing to do it that I don't understand.
I used to use one of the standard a word filters to silently change all these tabloid style words into sentences that made people posting them say things that they almost certainly didn't want to say. :messenger_beaming:
Can't see it happening here though, words like woke, triggered and the like seem to keep the place busy which equals more money coming in, I suppose.

I just hope that they won't go with a cartoony art style for this game...

Well probably not. I think they only had that style for Destruction All Stars cause that was the theme or setting in the first place.

I recall a rumor existed a while back talked about a Twisted Metal game being made.
