So you in your infinite wisdom believe that production started on this project three months ago?

All we got was some conceptual pre-rendered trailer so why not?

Nobody needs you to do PR here.

prey released in 2017, unless they were sitting on their hands for years this was probably approved way before Microsoft came on board. I guess this makes more sense as a result of the zenimax era, it looked like they were cutting budgets across the board and pushing for multiplayer in everything seems like something they would have done, deathloop still looks like a budget game and I'm pretty sure its because arkane was close to being downsized.

After prey they did Mooncrash and then co-developed Wolfenstein Youngblood before starting on Deathloop.

Considering all, we have is some CG trailer and sparse details it wouldn't surprise me if they started working on this recently.

This is why this kind of stupidity goes on my ignore list.

No they didn't put all that together in three months, production started in 2018.

It has a scheduled release window of summer 2022, also arkane lyon is the team working on deathloop and this is Austin right? They might have helped out but this isn't the same team at all.

If it's Austin rather than Lyon then that would make more sense.

I'm just looking for more information that would explain how a developer known for their deep and immersive single player games goes from games like Dishonoured and Prey to... Whatever the hell this is.

mooncrash was 2018, I think the Wolfenstein Collab with machine was the French team who is also handling deathloop (that might just be whoever wrote the Wikipedia article assumed arkane = Lyon studio).

Good news: For once, Arkane is not looting the decaying corpse of Looking Glass in order to make mediocre copies of their games.

Bad news: Now everyone, including them, is just ripping off Left 4 Dead.
Those games you call mediocre copies of Thief is what I call masterpieces and the reason I loved Arkane. Redfall and Deathloop seem from another company.

The fact that its a year makes me think (maybe naively) that this is some weird marketing decision. I also want to see the gameplay cause Phil mentioned it, you can play this solo, it might be like the GotG or Dragon Age system of controlling others in the team.

It doesn't seem that far away from Deathloop, either from a gameplay or artistic perspective.

Deathloop looks to be a continuation of the work they did on Mooncrash but in a different setting.

No idea wtf this is though. But I am willing to wait until we see some gameplay before throwing the hat in. That trailer rubbed me the wrong way.

We saw no gameplay and the only similarity to Deathloop is the art style of one of the characters (or "hero's" *cringe*).

Yeh the fact that it can be played solo is the only thing keeping me hoping at this stage.

i know that generic is the 2010+ gamers word for everything ...but since I'm a certain age someone would explain to me what you really mean by saying "generic"?

generic isn't a gamer word it's just a standard bit of english vocabulary, i keep seeing people saying they don't understand what it means when its obviously that something looks too much like a bunch of other popular things.

I think most people mean unoriginal.
but it was a CG trailer. what people could have understood from that trailer if not more or less the setting of what the game will be. And honestly, there aren't a ton of games with vampires as we have been inundated with zombie fashion for years (from TV to video games). Following this idea, the new fromsoft game is also generic.

In what world are those games similar besides being an FPS?

Open world/sandbox games that are perfectly fine playing single player during its campaign but provide optional co-op. People seem to be under the impression like this is some team game like Left 4 Dead. This thing will be no different than Borderlands.

I know people in this thread are saying that this game was in development before the MS acquisition but MS is still letting them make it. If I walked into their studio and saw this I would have have told them to cancel it and make something thats more visually appealing.

Their games look like they have the budget of some eastern european developer that makes shitty knockoff games on Steam.

They aren't sandbox games lmao

Yeah, that's basically how they've just introduced the game. They even went with roster of heroes to choose from

Update your vocabulary instead of blaming gamers.

You could try to make that argument. It wouldn’t work, but you can try

if this is true and i hope it is, they completely fucked up the marketing because everything about that trailer felt like another l4d style shooter. Instead of confusing and disappointing everyone just wait until there's something to show that fans of the studio would actually be excited for.

I know. When Phil said open world and the CGI movie showed the wacky cast of characters my first thought was Borderlands.

It pleases me to know that the last good Arkane game came before their demise and the MS acquisition. I’m not missing anything by not getting Redfall on PS5 and I’m lukewarm on Deathloop. You gave us some incredible games, Arkane. We’ll miss you.

So fun trailer, but what kind of game is it?
it appears to be deathloop meets left 4 dead

random purple elevator thing got a double take from me lol

Well sigh it's got snappy dialogue, it's got minorities, it'd got a giant agro and a sniper who talks like batman lite, i mean it ticks a lotta boxes.

Kinda hard to hate on a game when we don't even know what the game looks like. Arkane has done some cool stuff, so I wouldn't shun them just yet, even if the art ain't my cup of team. At least vampires are pretty cool. 🤷‍♂️

The only thing I know about the game is the trailer. So if there's more info about it I missed it.

As Spacefish says, I agree. The video makes it look like a L4D game with canned levels and urban corridors. Not an open world game.

So MS decided to ruin Arkane, one of the top 3 best single player game devs at the time of acquisition.

Not surprising I guess, but utterly soul-crushing.
You think this game started as soon as MS acquired them? I don't know you but I know you smarter than that.

Sounds like Borderlands right?

The final shot of the trailer easily showed it was an open world game. Guess people just need their hand held.

Common sense.

Common sense also tells you this is not the type of game Arkane are known for.

Let's see how it turns out. I hope they return to doing what they do best after this little experiment.

I said in the main thread that its odd they revealed a multiplayer vampire co-op shooter cause...well didn't the vampire masquerade team just announce something extremely similar 2 or 3 days ago?
Vampire Masquerade: Blood Hunt

One of the characters they highlight is even a chick with curly hair. This one looks like it has a bit of a difference in it since it says you can play as the vampires I guess?

Yeah no. They don’t look similar at all. One is an open world game, the other is a battle royale. They’re completely different as games.

The trailer kept going, and going, and going. While watching it my mind began to wonder and I started to think about how much time and money they wasted on a one off trailer that could have been put to better use. Oh and the eye rolling cast of characters. What a disappointment. Especially after the Amazing Prey.

Update your vocabulary instead of blaming gamers.
At most it would show a distinct lack of nuance in terms to describe a countless variety of cases in the English language, but as I said it's just a gamers thing.

You could try to make that argument. It wouldn’t work, but you can try
I did it .. this "generic" stuff means nothing ... especially if aimed at a CG trailer. And again if you go down to that level even the most acclaimed game for their art style would look "generic". Elden Ring have the most generic dark fantasy art style of this world. People might say, I like or dislike instead of making excuse. Btw this (gaf) is probably the only place where I'm seeing 5hat game criticized in this way.

I already posted this in the conference thread, but seeing Arkane go from making Prey to making Deathloop and this game is just a travesty.

Do you realize they've got two teams and this game has been in development for years already?
I know you don't care as you're trying to spin it like Microsoft forced them to make some mp game, but first get your facts straight.
