Reddit rumor: Mafia IV is in development and Mafia II remaster

Anyone else think its hilarious how 2K Czech made Mafia II, was shut down and employees forced to relocate to the US if they wanted to keep their jobs, only to have Hangar 13 open a new office in Czech Republic and force all those employees to drop everything and move all the way back to Europe?

And 2K is pretending like Hangar 13 is a completely new studio even though its in the same location with a different name

That sounds good. I'm from Las Vegas and would like to see them recreate the city I was raised in. I know Mafia 3 was repetitive, but I had so much fun with the entire game

Up until now we only got a fraction of what Mafia II was supposed to be.

Cut content from missions found in the final build:

The Old Country
Home Sweet Home
Enemy of the State
Murphy's Law
The Buzzsaw

The amount of cut missions is insane.

It is a really great game, that could've been near-perfect. Sad.

Yeah, as I bought the game I was speechless. It is of course normal that content gets cut or modified, but not in that way. There were holes in the plot, characters who once had some importance and appearead for a fraction of second to be soon forgotten, the city got smaller, areas and mission got sold as DLCs with almost no relation to the whole game (Jimmy's Vendetta). On the 2k forums people was revolting and asking for questions, I was among them. Of course they closed threads and banned users and we never got answers. Vavra stated somewhere that the publishers imposed their line of work, and forced the team to put an end to the development process faster. Many got fired and/or left the studio. It was a sad story, the sign things were changing fast in the videogame industry.

Mafia II is one of my GOATs so I hope that's true.

As for a potential Mafia IV, that would be a hard sale after the trash that was Mafia III. Literally a textbook example of how to not make an open world game.

Very well said. I despise publishers like that. Sure, the game was into development for a long time (they started shortly after the first game, ultimately skipping that generation of platforms), but that situation was ultimately out of the developer's hands. The ending in particular leaves a lot to be desired. There have been attempts to restore that aspect of the game through modding:

are in a big trouble
I loved Mafia II and wouldn't mind a remaster but would still love a Mafia IV from 2K Czech

So is it true that Mafia II is coming to PS4? If so, any timeline of when?
I guess that 2K would be aiming towards an october/november release if Mafia II it's really getting the RE2 Remake treatment, but it could also come out during the summer if it is a simple remaster.

"Now then, MAFIA II Remaster - yes, this is a thing and it's coming sooner than you think. Not sure when, but they said "SOON" (TM) - Hangar 13's Czech branch is working on this, it's a complete overhaul and uses the MAFIA IV engine. Think RE2 Remake levels. "

Whoa... "RE2 Remake levels" - slightly more than a remaster, then. Although I preferred Mafia 1 to Mafia 2, i'm still excited for this. I did like Mafia 2 a lot. I still need to finish Mafia 3.

Mafia 1 was my favourite. If Mafia 4 is a sequel to Mafia 3, then I expect it to be full of political and SJW nonesense. A bad developer makes bad games.

Strange if it's a full remake of Mafia 2 as Mafia 1 was the better game IMO.

Thing with remakes is it's so much effort. Why not do upscaled 4k versions of Mafia 1 and 2 and call it a day. Sometimes you can over engineer a solution.

If it's anything that even slightly resembles a love letter to Casino, then I'll be throwing money at it. But if it's anything like you say, then there's no way in hell...

Seriously, open world games are boring me to death with this formula. Large worlds of boredom.

It's the trend, for some stupid reason, no developer seems to understand a small city where you can enter everywhere, do and discover all kind of things, top level details etc. is 1000x better than 18488292km of nothing but trees, buildings and water

A game is made to play, not to stare at scenario elements

For example, ac origins and odissey, rdr2 are awesome games, but I literally put the horse on auto mode, go make a sandwich, eat, and when I returned to console was still on march to reach the mission mark

Ridiculous

Red deads open world bores me so bad. It looks great but walking through the desert fucking sucks. I think it would take tons of more work rendering individual rooms and building interiors. Maybe the next gen things can change up a bit in open world design hopefully.

Mafia 2 was great, would happily replay that in 4k. Mafia 3 was okay, but lost its way trying so hard to make a point that the game felt like there was a lot of filler when you were outside the story levels.

One of Mafia 2's worst features was getting a wanted level for speeding. It made getting across the city unnecessarily tedious. In Mafia 3, you could get a wanted level just for being black in a certain area, and while it was historically accurate and poignant it didn't make for a fun game mechanic when you were just trying to hunt collectibles or pick up stash money.

Mafia 2 is one of my favorite games. I hope they add some of the removed content. Also would be great if they added the new areas from Joe's Adventure to the main game.

I liked the accuracy though, wasnt fun back then either :messenger_astonished:

I get it, and I get what they were going for, but there's making a statement and making a statement that's a detriment to your game. This unfortunately was the latter.

After the desolate mafia 3 the franchise is nearly Death for me. Man, this Game was so Full of bugs and under its potential.

Only5 good songs and always the fucking ones were playing in the radio.

But the Press Party at Gamescom was one of the best Ive ever visited.
