I agree the stats should be fixed but really if your playing this game for the stats and leveling up its not the game for you!

I play it for fun not how good my stats look and unlocking new guns.

Anyhow in the BF3 beta and I think RO2 has ruined it for me.. Every time I kill someone in BF3 I get NO satisfaction whatsoever :(

The best thing you could do as someone who has purchased the game is to play the beta and provide feedback via the official forum.

Technically there should not be a problem with what Tripwire are doing. TF2 and CS:S have betas running and both are in constant use. Publicly to the average gamer it seems like a step-and-stumble back because the final product is already out.

CS:S still feel like a beta, and it has been out for a while. At least RO2 is fun.

I don't care for this stuff either but since it affects the weapons it sucks. Sometimes I don't have the saddle mag for the LMG or the drum mag for the PPSh.

So... the ones who didn't get Deluxe can't participate?

what's bothering me atm: you know how no matter the game, stuff you see at a large distance is always jaggy/blurry and kinda moving? this game has a really bad case of that. For some reason i find it distracting.

Yeah, texture, foliage and shadow drawing is really distracting because otherwise it paints a very good picture of a battleground. It's not that bad when running around etc. but when you aim/zoom in and out and happen to reach the threshold it becomes quite hilarious in places.

Does anyone know the .ini commands for playing around with drawing distances? Not too familiar with UE3 myself.

Its in every game for sure, no matter how much antaliasing you throw in there, but this game doesnt do a great job at hiding it and since there's some huge open areas..

gonna get back to it once they fix stats though

edit: mh, i dont think we're talking about the same thing. Im not necesarelly speaking about draw distance and pop-in, but rather how much aliasing you see in the distance, those damn moving jaggies.

Ah OK, I see. Problem is the game is only offering post processing AA. Try disabling the ingame AA and force "real" AA - might have a big impact on your performance though. This should help with your problem.

And yeah it's about time they fix the stats.

stat reset patch coming in soon and how its doing sale wise

glad to see the game has done well for tripwire despite the shaky launch.

http://steamcommunity.com/games/RO2/announcements/detail/1353554621924859693

So we planned on putting this press release out as soon as we put out the update that fixed the stats. But since the achievement "In B4 Reset" found its way into to public already, I'll go ahead and post this up here now so you guys know what is coming up. You'll likely see a modified version of this press release come out in the next few days when we release the update. And this is the current plan, but things can always change, so if something changes please don't come back later and go "but you guys promised you were going to do X" We don't promise, we let you know what the current plans/ideas are, but those can always change!

Red Orchestra 2 - The State of the Game

By most business measures Red Orchestra 2 has been a smashing success for Tripwire Interactive. Within 2 days of the launch of Red Orchestra 2 it had surpassed the lifetime revenue of the original Red Orchestra that has been selling for over 5 years. The pre-sales and launch week sales of the game broke all company records even beating out our hit game Killing Floor by a three times margin. And Red Orchestra 2 has quickly established itself as one of the most played games on Steam. But for all of this success we've not done as well as we would have liked in the most important area to us - the happiness of all of our customers. To put it bluntly the game had a rough launch. We've been working diligently since launch to get these issues sorted and have made great progress fixing issues with matchmaking, VOIP, and stability as well as improving performance. The final major area that we've been working on is stats, player progression, and ranking.

We believe we have all of the major issues worked out with the stats system and are rolling out an update soon that should address these issues. Due to the problems with stats and players either earning stats and achievements that they didn't actually earn or earning stats at many times the intended rate we are going to have to do a global reset of all stats for the game. This means all achievements, stats and player progression will be rolled back as if all players were new. This was not an easy decision for us to make, but one we felt we needed to do to preserve the integrity of the stats and ranking system, and to provide all of the players the best experience with the game over the long term. Knowing that there are people that have been playing the game for a few weeks now and will lose the stats for that time we are going to provide a special bonus to all players. For a limited time all players will earn double experience in Red Orchestra 2. Additionally, we going to give all players that own the game before the reset a special achievement called "In B4 Reset". Right now this is just an achievement, but we're going to be looking at ways to give special rewards to the players that have this achievement in the future.

Thank you to all of the players that have made Red Orchestra 2 a hit so far. We've got a lot of exciting things in store with free content coming for the game so stay tuned for news on that.

I've fallen back in love with RO. I'm glad Tripwire hasn't lost what makes them great. I wish the stats stuff didn't actually exist, but it actually makes more sense than I thought it would and I'm glad they are fixing it. I haven't had a chance to play it much, so I'm really losing anything in the reset anyways.

About time. Good thing they went with a full reset. I would've preferred to get rid of the unlocks altogether but I guess that was out of the question since a lot of people seem to like this sort of thing.

I just hope that the last patch wasn't the end in terms of performance increases because it still performs worse than the latest beta before the retail version for me. The PR sounds a bit like they are confident in the current performance. I know it's all PR talk but you'll never know.

We have just uploaded a release candidate on steam for the new patch. This will replace the retail build of RO.

WARNING: This is a 3 gig Patch

It is up behind the steam password: -beta ro2beta

Example target line: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -beta ro2beta

That line goes in your steam launch shortcut in the target line. Please join us on The Beast server for testing.
The previously mentioned RO2 update is in Valve's hands and will be released soon. The stats reset will take place sometime tomorrow morning/afternoon time. The changelog is below:

Stats
-Fixed stats and acheivements being awarded when they shouldn't have been and sometimes not saving stats on ranked servers. This requires a global stat and achievement reset which will be happening soon.
-Fixed several number display issues in the profile menu and after action report
-Honor, class, and weapon experience are all currently doubled to help make up for stats lost to the reset
-A new achievement has been added which is unlocked simply by playing RO2 during the double xp for players affected by the stat reset

Gameplay
-Reloading can be interrupted by melee or switching weapons
-Fixed quick grenade not returning to the previously equipped weapon
-Fixed team wounding counting as kill
-Fixed kill assists not showing up all the time
-Fixed Countdown Time to Beat being always 0
-Fixed timers showing wrong numbers in the single player campaign
-Fixed tank AI being able to see through smoke
-Fixed tank cannon smoke shells not blocking any AI vision

Stability & Performance
- Major optimization pass on all maps should increase performance across the board
- Reduced Alt-Tab crashing
- Fixed post-processing preset resetting itself in the video settings menu
- Fixed glowing outline/rainbow colors around the screen for certain machines
- Fixed a bug causing all audio to cut out after a map change
- Graphical improvements to environments, weapons and vehicle interior - areas or vehicles/weapons not in direct sunlight now have working specularity which will help make normal maps more visible and textures to look less flat
- New Umbra release and optimization
- General CPU optimizations

Server
-Fix for commandline setting of webadmin values not saving after multiple map changes

I don't know if I have the heart to download the damn thing, to be honest. Patch notes seem great, but it's a bit too late. It's almost a month later and my opinion has definitely soured.

The game isn't bad by any means and the stat issues never bothered me. I just can't seem to enjoy my time playing. My location means there are currently about 3-4 servers with decent pings and depending on the time/day only 1 or 2 are populated. Needless to say, these servers aren't all that great and the community is a bunch of dicks that bayonet teammates on spawn.

Has anyone with a low end PC got this new update yet? The game run ridiculously crappy on my dual core, especially considering what engine it uses and how good (not) it looks and what it really offers as far as on screen action and gameplay go, does this bring it any more in line with decently made UE3 games (which I usually max out)?

No, because of a completely borked game that has crashing problems, performance problems, latency problems, a dwindling playerbase, wonky maps, and graphical glitches like textures that don't load or contorted character models - not to mention several patches that did absolutely nothing to help, as well as a few that made things worse. And yeah, stat fuckups were kind of annoying too.

"first world problems" is the most obnoxious fucking response on the internet, right up there with "u mad" and "tl;dr". Newsflash: if you're on a computer having discussions about video games, you have no right to call out other people for "first world" bullshit.

It has problems, but imo it still has the best competitive FPS gameplay out there, so I'm chillin.

1st world problems is a thing because it's true. People blow small things so out of proportion. It's a healthy thing to recognize.

- Last time RO2 crashed was during the first day or two of the game. If it's still crashing for you then you should hit the TWI forums or email them.
- Never had a single performance issue, luckily. Tripwire have asked for people to send in reports of their machines, which I did so for my younger brother who is still having problems yet seemingly continues to play it.
- If I can play well as Anti-Tank on a US server 6,000 miles away without problems, then something seems to be right with the latency. That is hardly the case for TF2 where I would love to join the GAF server but it borders upon unplayable.
- What dwindling playerbase? Still seems to be hundreds of players on every peak night; all of my local servers are packed from 7pm till late. It's never going to do the numbers of Counter-Strike but it's doing much better than Brink or Monday Night Combat.
- Map re-designs have been constantly talked about in the forums and we've already seen maps being fixed.
- I'll give you graphical glitches but I've never known a Tripwire game to look beautiful. The original RO always looked horrid (even compared to BF1942) but that never detracted from the game unless you want to be slotted alongside the "I'll never play a handheld because there is no immersion!" crowd.

And I stated first world problem because people have been bitching left and right about the game being bugged to hell and back, and yet they complain more when patches are released. This behemoth of a patch seems to fix the #1 complaint that seemingly every vocal minority shithead seemed to have and there you go on the soapbox weeping. That is a first world problem.

I'm not even defending the game. It isn't perfect. The campers ruin it a lot of the time on the objective maps and some guns are practical bullshit. The imbalance on maps will easily cause people to bitch and moan when they do the research, but unlike the urinal squatters out there I like a challenge and will never hesitate to select the Ruski's trying to attack/defend a poor map. That won't stop me from enjoying a game and knowing that every time I lodge a kill it will possibly be more satisfying than the last. Being critical to the point where I won't download a 3gb patch will only cause me to be bitter about a product I paid for. But hey if playing the game is closely resembled to wiping your own arse with barbed wire, then what benefit of the doubt do I have against your opinion. I'm simply saying it how I see it.

Alexios

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
We know you love the game and tripwire by now, calling people who don't love the game and tripwire as much as you do shitheads doesn't seem sensible. And I love how you guarantee everything is fixed for everyone before most people even try it. I hope by tommorow I'll agree with you cos I'm holding you to it. And no, not everyone wants to do tripwire's job for them and spend time on proper bug reports and sending crash logs and whatever else. Yes, even if they do some of that on GAF already. That you and your brother do that and how you love the game and play it despite issues or encounter no issues doesn't mean everyone else is in the same boat. That should be easy enough to understand for anyone. I loved the original and so far I'm very unhappy with the sequel. Why you can't deal with such is beyond me, maybe you're better off having fun playing the game instead of being here getting upset not everyone has the same experience and calling them shitheads for it. Just a thought.

Hardly the representative cheerleader for Tripwire since I don't own, nor do I enjoy, Killing Floor. And the shitheads comment was leveled at those who seem to be pleading for the game to be fixed and when patches come they throw the toys out of the cot.

I'm also not placing any guarantee that the game will work for you with this patch since I never said that anywhere. If it doesn't work as intended for you then I suggest you hit the TWI forums with constructed criticism. It's more likely to make larger ripples than posting it on here.

- New Umbra release and optimization

For anyone who is wondering what this is:

The purpose of Umbra 3 is to increase frame rate and ease game development. Umbra 3 does this by optimizing critical parts of a game such as rendering and by providing tools to help with content streaming and game logic.

Umbra 3 builds an internal representation of a game scene and uses this data at runtime to perform efficient queries that can be used to e.g. determine the set of visible objects for the player or determine the set of objects that are within a given distance from a point.

Umbra 3 can be used on any platform from high end consoles to mobile gaming devices such as iPhones and the PlayStation Vita.

Not upset in the least. No product is perfect and analysis from users should always be more than welcome.

As stated previously, simply saying it how it is and has been since week 1. People complain the game is riddled with bugs and unplayable, people complain that there are too many patches. There is a fine line between appeasement and insanity right there.

edit: Actually, upon re-reading I apologize for the "shithead" comment as it sounds as if I am accusing it to someone on this forum. It's more a generalization at those who seem to have flooded the TWI forums with "stats reset?" "achievements still borked!" threads. When I say it I see a blank gamer who reminds me of the banana thrower at a football match.

Bully for you, but your experience doesn't negate mine. I had a bad experience overall, and you telling me yours was fine doesn't really fix that. That's not a solution.

I had disconnection problems from servers in Seattle, a few miles away from me, and in LA, still on the west coast. I read many similar accounts. Again, my experience was negative.

The last time I tried to play was on a Friday night, and there were only 500 or so players globally. Is this not the usual case? It seemed pretty dire.

I don't want to be "slotted" alongside anyone, thank you very much. I can put up with iffy graphics but glitches and performance are a whole different ballgame.

"Vocal minority shithead"? Thanks duder. All I was saying was, "man, 3GBs is a lot of data and I'm not sure I have the heart to devote bandwidth (I have a cap) to this because the game sort of started to not be fun". I'm not complaining "more," it's just that in my case, the damage has been done. I got burned, and I'm not sure it's worth me downloading this when several patches in the past made my game experience worse, mostly in the performance department.

You say you're not defending the game, but you're certainly using some passionate language, partner. The game has a lot of awesome ideas and aspects but in my eyes, they've been buried under a mountain of bugs, performance issues, crashes, glitches, and unhelpful patches.

But, whatever. I'll put my money where my mouth is and resume the patch download on Steam.
