To the average consumer purchasing this game (Mommy running through the store and picking it up for little Johnny with the groceries) - they won't know the difference - it'll be labeled as a PS5 version and Mommy will simply find the game labeled as "PS5" version and throw it in the cart...
PS4 games, just like this one, are labelled as "PS4".

I understand that ps5 was not treated as a priority here, but i don't take half-assed favors, sorry. 🤷‍♀️
I'm sure some people won't care (and they'll be fine with what they get), but i personally won't pay the full price for something like this.

Are people really complaining that an MS owned studio didn’t go out of their way to make a PS5 version of a game on top of a PS4 version? They were legally obligated to make a PS4 version as that’s what they had promised. They never promised a PS5 version.

You guys still don’t get how acquisitions work do you? Are we still going to get these same comments when Starfield and the next Doom come out and aren’t on PS4 or PS5? Where’s the concern for no Xbox version of Spider Man or God of War?

Yes, we know how acquisitions work. You are investing in a platform that owns your ass. If you nevertheless make an offer to me, i have the right to refer to it, in line with my point of view. Any problem with that?

Wow that's some Lazy devs right there.
Woah careful there! dcmk7 is already running around lying and accusing people of calling developers lazy when they haven't. Here you ACTUALLY calling a developer lazy could cause him an even further mental decay. I'm stunned he hasn't said anything yet... I wonder why?

For the record I am impressed with Double Fine's work here and I will play their game when it hits Xbox.

You know why. It is even more impressive that some are trying to spin this as a negative against MS when we all know Sony or Nintendo would NEVER put their games anywhere else. Some people are quite special.

I mean yes, problem.

They promised a PS4 version and they delivered a stellar PS4 version. They didn’t gimp it in any way. They even made the frame rate double for the BC mode on PS5. There was never a PS5 version promised.

What’s your problem with that?

My problem? I have no problem with anything, i just won't take the offer, not on such terms. Is there anything incomprehensible in what i wrote?
I guess everything is fine from your point of view, good uncle Phil didn't have to make exceptions for you because "that's how acquisitions work." From my point of view, someone offers me a product that does not fully meet my expectations, it is that simple. I do not look for conspiracies here, i do not criticize the creators nor do i dwell on whether someone promised me it or not. I just won't pay the full amount, i'll wait for a discount and then give it a chance. I pay for what I get. 🤷‍♀️

Aside from that, it's not that only you are allowed to have an opinion on this subject, regardless of the circumstances the recipients of this offer are also ps5-owners, so here we are.

At least they are doing that, there's other companies that have taken peoples money only to make the game (timed?) exclusive, instead of providing the versions promised to the ppl in their Kickstarter.

Wasn't aware of that. Awful, why would they get themselves into an agreement like that, knowing the promise they've made?

that assumes DF has access to PS5 devkits and the bandwidth of engineering and QA to play through the game and make sure there's no bugs introduced or performance issues with playing it in BC mode. It's more than just toggling some setting when considering the entire picture. What about save transfer support if at all? Testing the store. Testing trophies. Etc.
Explain this to me.
Are you implying there's a lack of PS5 dev kits in the industry?

“Won’t take the offer”? “Not on such terms”?

The game was announced for PS4 and is releasing on PS4. They even went an extra step and made it run at 60fps on the PS5. There was never a PS5 version promised or announced.

So you are upset with the “terms” of a PS4 game being made as promised…..

Upset is too big a word. For some reason the "ps5 version" was created, i will be able to play it on ps5, with a double framerate, via bc.
And yes, it is not enough for me. What's so hard to understand about that?
My point of view is not related to the publisher's generosity, but to what he decided to offer me, for money.

The argument that i should be happy with what i got because they didn't have to give me anything does not satisfy me, because they gave something. Now my job as a customer is to evaluate that something. I can't explain it to you any easier, because I'd have to use props.

There is no PS5 version, nothing was created. It's the PS4 game running via BC like every other PS4 game can.

They offered you a PS4 game, a PS4 game that even has enhancements when running on a PS5. You wanted a PS5 game. The problem is entirely your own making.

Making games is expensive and there is little recourse for Kickstarter backers when a product is never finished or not delivered as promised.

I agree in a way with your argument.

I recently posted how annoyed I was that the Ghost of Tsushima PS5 version was being kept behind a $30 paywall, I already own the original game, and a PS5 after all.

It was said that the extra effort to develop this (since making PS5 versions was more difficult than upgrading simply to Series versions) was worth this cost, and if you didn't like it SuckerPunch had already patched the PS4 games to 60fps anyway

Given the latter fact is already true for this game, my question is how much extra should the PS5 cost given the extra cost of development, and in a related question how much would you be willing to pay to have them make it?

Let me ask you a question: do ps4 versions of games run on ps5 without the need for any tweak from the developer's side?
I'm not very technical, if this is the case then i'm sorry, i was wrong all along.
I assumed that running ps4 on ps5 also requires some sort of porting, so this version was released on ps5 intentionally, regardless of the lack of a announcement.
If so, it is my mistake, not understanding the issue.

Dude, don't sink to DarkMage619 DarkMage619 levels with this. They didn't have enough financing to finish the game until Microsoft came along.
Just a minor correction. You should be MORE like me and NEVER call a developer lazy. They are hard working people who are doing their best to produce a compelling product just like Double Fine has done here.

In other news there should be more praise for the XSS version of this game. Here is a title that appears to be running at more than 1440p AND it has a 120 fps mode as well. It just goes to show you what some optimizations can do for the platform. It again is stomping a mud hold in past generation platforms. Where are the detractors now? Why not give credit where it is due? Maybe it's time to drop the narrative that the system is holding back the generation or making disingenuous comparisons to the Switch and PS4. Plus this game is on Game pass? It's no wonder the XSS offers the best value in gaming right now.

That's disappointing but it's true, you have implied certain developers are lazy, a few times, it's happened and it's been proven.. and spoken about a lot.. so there is no need to talk about it anymore here.

And as for the rest of your post, not sure what you're on about.. No one's brought any of that up in this thread, from what I can see. A weak attempt at trying to derail?

I am not able to answer this question because - as it seems to me - the costs of implementing such changes may differ.
But I don't think they're worth a few dozen bucks, after all, this is how they promote and drive sales of next-gen consoles, they benefit from it anyway.

It's hard for me to guess how much of this are real costs, and how much an attempt to shave customers at a convenient time, when buyers want to see these additional teraflops in action with barely any new games on the horizon.

As for me, I would give a maximum of $10, and only if the changes were extensive. :messenger_winking:

since the series changes, which have been funded since the aquisition by Microsoft, are (relativley) minor. then I guess you've just saved yourself some money.

Looks like you're right.

But after all, my thought was based on wrong assumptions (i guess).

Ehh, it used to be easier in the past, you didn't care about publishing politics, you just played games. Instead of wading into absurdity, i will probably just do that. :lollipop_grinning:

One x always had games running at 30fps. It can do whatever resolution you want, but the needle doesn't go beyond 30fps.

Dunno the reason for that but 60 fps has become a norm this gen only. 60 fps used to be PCMR luxury last gen.
What are you talking about? Gears 5 is dynamic 4K/ 60 AND HDR on the One X. Horizon 4 has a performance mode with HDR as well. Both of which are more graphically demanding than P2.

Yes, they do. The PS5 is fully backwards compatible with PS4 games, no work needed by developers. They can, at their own choice, do some work to enable the game to have extra performance etc when played on a PS5, which they did here by giving it a 60fps mode as well. This is still a PS4 game though, there never was and never will be a PS5 version.

Double fine isn’t what they used to be. I’ll be surprised if true.
the Rhombus of Ruin PSVR/PCVR game was pretty dope and showed they still have it in terms of writing and art direction IMO. Clever design in puzzles and mechanics within the Psychonauts universe

Double Fine games never got straight 90s. Including the original Psychonauts. But they stand the test of time for being original despite a few flaws. This will be no different.

Little Devil Inside is a timed exclusive, also for the KS it was coming to Wii U but is now coming to Switch instead

Which means Windows 11 will have HDR.
Well, in Windows auto-HDR is sometimes preferable to the broken native implementation (*cough* EA).
That is when it doesn't crater performance (sadly it's not exactly free) and actually makes a difference (Control was a big disappointment there).

Double Fine: ~80 employees working on 9 different platform SKUs and committing themselves to their crowdfunding promises

San Diego Studio: 1000+ employees working on a yearly MLB game with the MLB publishing native Xbox editions

Brainlets: "woaawww gimp much why no native ps5 port wtf MS"
Huh? Do you really think SDS has over 1,000 employees? Wouldn’t that make them one of the biggest teams in the entire industry, if not the biggest?

Sorry man I can never love lies. The guy you called out actually called developers lazy (although I had to point it out to you seeing how you see things that don't exist and miss things that do) so I was loving the fact you learned what the word meant and your reading skills improved. Sadly you apparently have not. Oh well not super surprising.

There is no way to derail a thread on a games' performance on the XSS by talking about the XSS haha you really have some troubles don't you. The system is doing fantastic work and has great resolution and framerate performance. Since you had voiced 'concern' about the XSS I figured this game would help put your mind at ease and see the system is quite capable. I suppose if the XSS' performance is still a problem for you, you should return it to the store.

Checking the numbers the XSS hanging in with the best of them and this was supposed to be the system that would ruin the generation. It's alright to admit that you had no idea what you were talking about like many topics and give the MS engineers some credit. It's actually not too late.

The fuck? Why there's native XSX version and not PS5 version, even though the game will be available in PS4? I'll wait for native 4K 60 update (or play the game on PC eventually).

Microsoft own Double Fine, and from the store page it seems like there is no Series S/X version just yet:

Psychonauts 2 | Xbox

Smart Delivery: Xbox Series X|S version will be available over time, see xbox.com/smart-delivery.

Seems like they're just delivering the PS4/XB1/PC game as expected, and then are going to just do an update to the XB1 version to make it a "native" Series S/X game (still not really a SX game though). They're obviously not going to spend even a second making a PS5 version, just like how Sony don't make their games for Xbox.

No it's a native game. That's just Microsoft explaining what smart delivery is or whatever. I have it preloaded and it says Scarlett not Durango

Read the thread a bit homie.

The game was crowd funded with a promise for a PS4 version. Microsoft bought them in '19 and the game continued development for two years. They're fulfilling the promise of the PS4 version. The framerate being unlocked to 60 for PS5 BC is "more" than they had to do.

You didn't.

And let's not forgot you've called them lazy too.

Rest of your post is incoherent.

There is no need to derail the thread because you have some insecurities about a plastic box.

It's pathetic. Just enjoy the game.
