nah, he is correct. 70/90 at the most. ps4 took a huge chunk of the 360's install base because of the terrible launch or better said the xbox one's lifecycle as a whole. at least 20 million users. now do the math.
46+20=66
102-20=82
... also ps3 was dodoo
The other way to look at it would be that because the PS3 was a massive clusterfuck of bad decisions, the 360 took away the 20 million the PS3 was missing to become the normally hundred+ million seller Sony consoles usually are, and this gen is correcting back to business as usual, with the increase in sales between the Xbox 1 and Xbox One being just whatever brand loyalty 7th gen managed to garner Microsoft.

Also, there are also bunch of new users. So, he isn't correct, though. Did Game Pass for 1$ pushed Xbone sales? Did BC pushed Xbone sales? Did XboneX pushed Xbone sales as a whole? No. It isn't, sales has never been worse for years now. Soon Switch will overtake Xbone's LTD. And it's not close to 50 either. In last 10 months, Xbone sales dropped heavily on quarterly basis worldwide unlike with PS4.

oh definitely, but the same clusterfuck happened to microsoft when they launched the xbox one. the 360 was so mighty not only due to the early launch, but also how microsoft threated the system in the early years. you had the best online, the best multiplats, an amazing controller (except the dpad). also the selection of exclusives was really good. some say kinect was the beginning of the downfall but I dont think so. it sold very good, boosted the 360 in sales. when the xbox one launched, they fucked up all the momentum they have build over the years. worse specs and more expensive, which is complete vice versa of what they done with the 360. online wasnt better. kinect was obligatory. yeah, its really no rocket science why the xbox one did how it did. the lack of appealing exclusives is the icing on the cake. so yeah, those 20 million are pretty much gamers/customers that dont care that much about the brand and just want the best product. the xbox one aint that by long shot.

also... can we mention how much sony improved the dualshock? i hated the ds3. the ds4 however... that thing is great. it keeps the style, but it just feels 1000x better and your thumps dont collide all the time and its just great. lol

nope, but it pushed xbox as a platform though, so i think the next gen is still open in that regard. tbh, would you buy a xbox one right now? i woudnt. everything cool like the bc and gamepass will be on the next one too and other than that there is just not many reasons to buy one over a ps4. especially in terms of exclusive games.

OG Xbox was 24 millions and Dreamcast under 10 million.
oh, thought dreamcast was at 11 million and sold a little more than the saturn.

Also, PSNow removes the need of PS+ for multiplayer in general so add those 700k there too.
It's now over 1 million subs......

But but but XboxDone X is the strongest console of all time.....
It is, there is little discussion to be had on the matter (however there are a few cases where the PRO comes out on top anyway, it's not clear if the reasons are technical or due toe ressources allocations).

I don't see how it contradicts the sales figure, there are good reasons to not be interested in xbox.

Congrats to Sony! Here’s hoping next gen is a lot more heated.

also I don’t think the PS4 will surpass PS2 and I still see people are saying PS3 topped the 360 in sales.

Of course it did.

Just because it sold predominantly to a different audience than normal, one thats since branched off into mobile gaming, doesnt mean it didn't it didnt earn it's sales. It was lightningnin a bottle, but it was also brilliant for its time.
Ok, and I say the controls sucked for any time, the graphics obviously sucked for their time, and the game selection after a few years sucked for their time. Lightning in a bottle is right.

Doesn't matter how powerful your system is. At the end of the day it comes down to games and marketing.

With those sales I can't believe they will drop support new first party games (not announced) for PS4... but its Sony and last 3 years they have been incompetents on many ways.

People saying for example Horizon 2 exclusive for PS5 on day 1, but don't think they can do those sales from Horizon 1 until 2022 on PS5.

From what we DO know PS3 sold more unless MS debunks that by releasing numbers.
As long MS won't give any official numbers, PS3 will be above in the end and surely Sony can say that. Also, the PS3 outsold the 360 every year launch aligned except the year Kinect launch, the last numbers we have had them neck and neck...so logic dictates PS3 sold more after releasing a year later with a much higher price tag.

All of which is true, but for the audience it was aimed at, none of those things mattered. Well, apart from the controls.

While the Wiimotes may have sucked for those of us enthusiasts that are used to precision and complicated inputs we've locked to muscle memory, for casual gamers the waggle and two or three buttons per hand was revolutionary, making the Wii far more accessible than any console has been since the NES.

Then obviously mobile gaming took off, the casual market went there, and Wii sales fell off a cliff at the end of 7th gen.

But that doesn't mean those 100m sales don't count, or that catering so perfectly to such a huge chunk of the market, the same one that accounts for a big percentage of the PS2's sales too infact, isn't hugely impressive and deserving of a place in the videogame halls of fame.

Microsoft said long ago that a the Scarlet reveal they will put out historical numbers (all Xbox), people shouldn't be surprised MS isn't putting anything out until then. Especially since they are likely trying to get to a decent Xbox One number like 50-55 million depending on whos estimates you believe. Likely will reach it after Nov and December.

They also said that current programs will be different on Scarlet so don't think every FP Xbox game is going to be day 1 on the new consoles (or also on PC) the Xbox One is in coasting mode right now. This is the last major year of FP releases, next year there may be one or two (excluding Infinite) but don't expect anything next year for Xbox One other than a price drop and third party deals.

Microsoft has learned from their mistakes, and Sony's have learned from theirs (outside of censorship) so next generation is going to be a lot different than before. Microsoft has already stated that they plan to put much more money and effort in pushing their next machine, and it will be when we see what these new studios come up with.

So let' stop being shocked that they aren't doing much with the Xbox One right now. I mean yeah, it may upset some people (that actually own Xbox consoles that are invested in console wars on message boards) but it wouldnt really make sense to suddenly throw cash down the drain during the end of the gen to get another 3-5 million units in sales to reach 60 million Xbox Ones while losing tons of money.

making the Wii far more accessible than any console has been since the NES.

Games were more accessible before the NES.

From what we DO know PS3 sold more unless MS debunks that by releasing numbers.
As long MS won't give any official numbers, PS3 will be above in the end and surely Sony can say that.

But Sony isn't saying that, fanboys are.

Also, the PS3 outsold the 360 every year launch aligned except the year Kinect launch, the last numbers we have had them neck and neck...so logic dictates PS3 sold more after releasing a year later with a much higher price tag.

Actually the 360 outsold it two years. Also the last numbers we had from them before Sony's recent announcement was 84 million to 80 million in the 360's favor so not really neck and neck.

The PS3 did sell ell though, it was a commercial failure (like thee first Xbox), the biggest in gaming, but Sony did eventually salvage the sales so the PS4 would have a great start, although one could argue they had no choice.

PS4 doing some good numbers, don't think it will reach 120 like some people here though, they are dropping rapidly, the successor is next year, I don't see them selling 20 million more units, especially since Next year before PS5 launch will likely be the lowest of the low.

I can only see such a thing if the PS4 is $199 or less and the PS4 Pro is $249 or less. Even then that's still a touch hill to climb.

BTW, people are still confused despite it being 2019, the mindshare may have shrunk, but the Pre-launnch Xbox stuff did not effect sales. The Xbox One sold 1 million in 24 hours just like the PS4, and was close to selling on par with the PS4 in only 13 countries.

What hurt it was 2014, where the high price and Kinect was causing sales to slow, and Microsoft ignored it, thinking Titanfall would be enough to stabilize the sales. TF did sell good, but it only gave a slight bump to sales, and it dropped further. Kinect also had a double negative reputation:

Many people didn't want the Kinect

Many people who did were upset it had no games.

So Microsoft decided and announced in May to make a Kinectless SKU and sell it along side the regular SKU, which the latter still had more shipments (derp) until July when they decided to sell more Kinectless units and decided to try getting rid of Kinect-bundle stock.

On top of this while half the third party deals on the PS4 flopped, almost all of the ones on Xbox flopped even though many looked promising (this would be a much bigger issue in 2015.).

So it took Microsoft 7 months into 2014 to see the reality, and the PS4 was already 2:1 at that point. So Microsoft coasted until November and then had a massive fire sale with a price cut, insane bundles and promotions featuring Assassins Creed Unity primarily with other bundles and smashed the PS4 in NPD and a couple other countries, only to immediately lose that within the first 4 months of 2015. Which still had stores filled with $500 (shortly cut to $400) Kinect bundles because MS decided to cut the price late (yet the goal was to slowly get rid of these bundles).

Then you started seeing MS around march 2015 start changing their strategy, working with more studios, including top features, updating their softwware, and changing how they operated. Almost 2 years after launch.

This is why the Xbox One lost a ton of mindshare, ot the pre-xbox reveal, while one could say it has some factor, you can clearly see the mistakes they made after launch. If the pre-xbox stuff was the only thing they had to worry about this gen would be different.

The only thing really linked to the pre-launch stuff was the fact the Xbox One originally only released in 13 countries which came directly from the "kinect required to power on" policy since they needed time to make Kinect 2.0 work in multiple languages and they couldn't change that when they made the 180 because they were too close to launch and the shipments were already set-up.

TL;DR - MS has no idea what their consumers want and make mistake after mistake, only strengthening Playstation as a worldwide brand.

These guys are just joking. We all know PC gaming is huge.
This is really sidetracking the topic (congrats to Sony!), but here goes anyway.

PC gaming is huge, sure. In terms of people involved and revenue too. But if you look at the sales numbers of AAA titles across different platforms, for example, you'll find PlayStation is nothing to sneeze at. There was this one game from a no-name Polish developer, something about an albino guy killing everything within sight. I think it was called "The Geraldo 3". Something along those lines anyway.

That game was PC-first, amirite? Yet if you look at the actual sales, PS4 accounts for a metric fuckton. I can't be arsed to google the slides, but it's true, especially for the first year (which I should think is the most important part, as sales diminish the profits). The size of the PC market may be the largest, I'm certainly not contesting that. But whether there's as much profit to be made, that's a whole another issue altogether.

Good work Sony, it's been a great console and a great generation for games! Now let's hope Microsoft can learn from the best and produce higher quality content next-gen. I want to see these two at each others throats with amazing games. Gamers will benefit from that scenario in a big way.

PS4 Wins and Xbox One Loses Launch Day Sales War

PS4 is barely a Japanese console.

Everything else is fanboy nonsense, the Xbox One is hitting 50-55 million, it may hit over 50 million by the end of the year, the current estimate is 47 million, also backed by one of the guys who put out the 41 million before that YOU believe: https://www.resetera.com/threads/se...sday-october-15th.145103/page-2#post-25355552

Also it was over 41 million but people give Zhuge/Welfare insane credit for no reason despite being wrong multiple times so we'll use them since that's the base of YOUR argument. This 47 based on both of them is the current estimate. The Xbox One will sell at or over 3 million in NPD alone in just Nov and December, not even counting the rest of thi month in October.

This means all the Xbox One would have to sell is 5 million next year which with a price cut is entirely doable, and it will have it's last big holiday season next year.

Also you can't use flawed logic that because outside two years the PS3 outsodl the 360 WW, that it continued in the last years both were on the market since we don't have PS3/360 sales comparisons for those last years, so we have no idea if the PS3 outsold the 360 the remaining years, and since you rely on Zhuge/Welfare for sources they BOTH also doesn't believe the Ps3 outsold the 360, so are you going to gut your own informant if it's not advantageous to the PS3?

Your last point is irrelevant. The fact is the Xbox One sold 1 million at launch in 24 hours (which did not include the US btw so that's a lie since they announced the 1 million during the US launch since it was last) in 24 hours like the PS4 which excluded the best selling territory, so people blaming the pre-launch DRM and such are wrong when they use that for why the Xbox ended up doing poorly, although it did have influence on some decisions they couldn't change that bacame an issue later.

Considering the PS4 wasn't even 500k ahead despite being in more than double the Xbox One's countries by Dec 31st 2013, it's clear that the Xbox One was not initially hurt by the DRM stuff.

It was 2014 which doomed Xbox with taking to long to realize that bundling Kinect was dumb and the power gap would become a major issue. They then went to far at the 2014 holiday fire sale and screwed up the first half of 2015. This was especially harmful in Europe because the X box One just cost wayyy too much and some markets didn't even get the Xbox until later which made things worse.

The stuff you're bringing up is some fanboy rant outside of the conversation.

LOL. Looks who talking.

50 Million!? LOL. WTF are you smoking! 9 million sales in 2019. OMG!!! 3 million Xbones in US during Nov. and Dec this year. Hahahaha! OMG For the record, last year during Nov. and Dec. Xbone has sold in 2.2 million units. Suddenly sales will be up??
Btw. Zhuge has some access to console sales data because he works in some analyst company and Welfare don't. If Zhuge mentioned 41 million at the beginning of 2019 ( around 6 million in entire 2018 ), Xbone sales were down every single fucking quarter big time from 19% to 48% since end of 2018. So, simple logic, Afro, Xbone in any way can't have sales higher than 6 million in 2019.. According to your logic, that means sales are flat or higher compared to 2018. WHICH ISN'T. Sales only can be lower. Soon Switch will overtake Xbone for good, probably till end of this year. That means over 45 million for Switch! Bye, bye, Xbone! You won't be missed!

As long MS won't give any official numbers for X360, PS3 will be above in the end and surely Sony can say that.

So, again, read :

Sony to launch PlayStation 4 on Nov. 15 in US, Canada, Nov. 29 elsewhere

Xbox One launches in 13 countries on November 22

Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the UK, and the US getting the console first

So, Xbone was launched in US like PS4 too. In his best selling territory . Really, it was :

Microsoft on Friday crowed that more than a million Xbox One consoles were snapped up within 24 hours in 13 countries after hitting shelves for the first time in the morning.

Yes, all 13 countries were included, even US.

Good work Sony, it's been a great console and a great generation for games! Now let's hope Microsoft can learn from the best and produce higher quality content next-gen. I want to see these two at each others throats with amazing games. Gamers will benefit from that scenario in a big way.

Microsoft doesn't need to learn anything, they just need to avoid the mistakes of the Xbox One's first 3 years double down on the Xbox One's last 3 years, and make sure they have a launch 360 style first party line-up for whatever they are going to call the next Xbox.

PS4 did good this generation. I originally didn't think they would reach 100 million but how badly Nintendo fucked up the Wii U changed that.

~45 million Xbox One, ~101 million PS4 (Sold-through), ~12 million Wii U (sold-through)

That's 168 million this gen.

Last gen was:

~87 million PS3, ~84 million Xbox 360 (last numbers we have), ~100 million Wii, ~200k Hyperscan, ~50k Ouya

270.25 million.

The gen before:

~155 million PS2, ~24 million Xbox, ~22 Gamecube ~9 million Dreamcast ~3 million Vtech

That's 212 million.

Gen before:

~102 million PSX ~33 million N64 ~9 million Saturn ~2.5 million 3DO ~ !50k Jaguar

146.6 million.

This gen won't hit 200 million and is in the same range as when video games first broke into the mainstream back in the early 3D days.

Hopefully next gen will be much better. Sony managed to do pretty well regardless.

Microsoft was in prime position this gen to cause another major split coming off the back of the Xbox 360, they fumbled very hard.

If Xbox One came out of the gate swinging and was a value proposition as compelling as the PlayStation 4 without all that policy nonsense the PS4 wouldn't be where it is now. Would it be successful? Absolutely, but the reality is the split would probably be in 70/80 million neighborhood instead of a 100/50 million split.

I disagree with that take.

The 360 owned the first half of the last gen but had tailed off in the second half, hence ultimately being overtaken by the PS3. Microsoft were not in pole position at all.

Yes, and the US was launched last on that very day, and they announced the 1 million sold before the US launch on that same day, the Sun goes from right to left not left to right idiot.

By Dave Cook, Friday, 22 November 2013 00:12 GMT

Notice the time of the article, the same date the Xbox One launched, BEFORE THE US MIDNIGHT LAUNCH.

Xbox One launch was in Nov.22

That article was 12:12 AM GT on the 22nd which is 8PM East Coast (EST) USA. the PREVIOUS day Nov. 21.

12:am means that Eastern Europe and Asia had already had the Xbox from 3-8 hours since it was already Nov.22 in those areas since 12am GMT converted would mean those areas were 3AM Nov.22 to 8+am Nov.22nd.

This also means that almost all of Western Europe was at 1:12 am which was over an hour after the midnight launch. With the exception of the UK, which has the same time zone as GMT and JUST HAD the midnight launch.

This means that the Xbox sold over 1 million without the US and Canada.

by the time the East Coast of the US had the 12am Midnight launch, the rest of the world was already 4-14 hours ahead. More articles reported the 1 million figure 7-10 AM EST/CT/Pacific.

So not only was the US launch not counted, but the US still had a whole day that wasn't counted since the US is the last country along with Canada to end each day.

So yes, you have no idea what you're talking about.

(I also never said the 360 was ahead or denied that until they release numbers the PS3 is officially ahead, I asked you if you would agree with Zhuge/Welfare on the possibility Xbox 360 was ahead since you over use them all the time for sources, and you dodged the question twisting my words and going on a fanboy rand because you don't have the intellect to have a civil discussion and make every post you make fanboy drivel like thelastword which you were banned for at least two times from what I've seen.)
(Also I noticed you are pretending the Wii U doesn't exist in order to attack the Xbox One, such obsession can't be healthy.)

I disagree with that take.

The 360 owned the first half of the last gen but had tailed off in the second half, hence ultimately being overtaken by the PS3. Microsoft were not in pole position at all.

Actually the 360 still "owned" the second half, the upset super hardcore gamers were mostly forum posters, it wasn't until 2012 were other types of gamers started to be a little concerned, but the casuals kept eating Kinect, which is why it had so many games.

By the time the Xbox One and PS4 came out the 360 was still the undisputed number 1 since the media pretended the Wii was a fisher price toy and didn't take it serious which is why the term HD twins was used so frequently.

BTW, I didn't forget the Switch in my list, it's a next gen consoles not a current one, and after 2020 no one will be debating that fact, and wikipedia is already having that discussion in the background since they are the ones that started the confusion.

Xbone launched in 13 countries. Reports for Xbone sales came on Nov. 23rd or 24th. About your link, article was updated numerous times ( you failed to see it ) :
The Xbox One reveal and launch day details
Xbox One: over one million consoles sold through in less than 24 hours ( By Stephany Nunneley, Saturday, 23 November 2013 13:31 GMT )

As long MS in their reports stated Xbone has sold in 1 million units across the globe on launch day
: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the UK, and the US MY POINT STANDS.

Highly doubtful Wii numbers are correct. One day they just stopped. They sold the Wii long into the WiiUs lifetime. Even with the switch out.

I bought 2 pros and roughly 8 or so PS4s including the slims.

Still have a mint Destiny Phat (still best looking one IMHO) and a normal black slim. Even bought a slim last week for 139.

Amazing. I still remember picking mine up on launch day

Kudos to Sony. It’s certainly my favourite home console of all time, even more than the ps2, just because of the quality of games - even if I’m not playing them as much as I used to

FIFA today, uncharted 4, rdr2, gta5, Batman Arkham knight, god of war; these experiences have been exceptional time investments

A total of 2.8 million PlayStation 4s were shipped during the second quarter of fiscal year 2019, which is down 1.1 million from the 3.9 million shipped during the same period the previous fiscal year.
For a perspective, AMD semi custom division reported revenue of $525M (down from $715M) and operating income of $61M (down from $86M). If we go with 2 to 1 vs XBox assumption and ignore non-console aspect of semi-custom, AMD charges less than $125 per console.
