If they manage to reduce motion sickness (which they try to) then I'll be in day one. Got some PSVR games to catch up on, but PSVR1 makes me puke all over my place. Oh what am I talking about, I'm trying to get one to launch anyway....

1.5 million would be a pretty substantial initial batch. The first headset took 3 years to sell 5 million. I wonder if Sony has any metrics internally on PSVR 2's early adoption versus the original headset.

Regardless, what Sony needs to ensure this time around is that the headset has great games that entice people right out of the gate. They've already dramatically improved the hardware. But nothing about this thing will matter if it doesn't get enough high profile releases that get people talking.

Hope they produce enough for everyone, this’ll be my first introduction to VR, as I suspect it will be for many now that we’ll see proper games made for it.
Yep, I have no doubt that the software will be really cool for this one. Hopefully we'll see some awesome stuff this week.

I just want to make one callout to everyone: give VR devs some leeway. This is a relatively new area for them, and this PS VR2 device is also very new. Look at most PS5/XSX games. They have barely scratched the surface of the hardware although the devs have been making these types of games for years. As we are waiting for true next-gen games till 2023, give VR devs a couple of years too. At least they are innovating and trying something new.

Can't the system support PC too?

Sony would be making a killing, if they support PC too.
No, because the console PSVR2 would be sold at cost if not a loss. If they ever make a Sony PC VR headset, it would be sold at a profit and likely the same price range as Index.

It can happen, it just would be treated differently to the console gear. It would be sold as a 3D head mounted display much like the predecessor to PSVR1 the Glasstron. Let's face it, if it was sold on PC it would be used for porn, so Sony would likely isolate the marketing to their Electronic department where they sell TVs and don't make content for it specifically.

It might not be possible, but PSVR2 would really benefit from being released before Christmas. A perfect gift for PS5 owners.*

*perfect gift to myself 😂
Same here, really hope for it releasing this year.
Waiting to febuary-ish for it would be unfortunate, but then again... the games being worked on all gain some more development time at the least.

I wonder if some of the 20+ launch games will include updates to existing PSVR1 games? I’d like to think that more of the older games will be playable, but who knows?

That's the only way I see them selling through that many units. The PC market. Otherwise it would be a 10%+ attach rate on a $300-$400 peripheral. I think PSVR took nine months or so to sell through that many with double the consoles already sold.

Big tings.

I think this is going to take off in a way the original didn't due to much fewer technical limitations, and stronger support from Sony.
Your average person wasn't aware of the technical limitations of the first one so I'm not sure why you expect this one to sell so much better. It does still have a wire which most people will notice. And with the ps5 still supply constrained, there will be a limit to how many of these will sell. And psvr2 itself is likely to be supply constrained!

Looks like they got their sensor supplier all situated. Had read they were starting to do production of final kits in beginning of the year, but were having trouble finding a supplier for some of the sensors to do mass production. Looks like they have that all sorted now.

Not for the end user.
But For whatever reason, Sony is trying to distance itself from the sexy stuff in the Playstation Brand. So i expect a future Sony brand PC VR headset to NOT carry the PlayStation name. As i said, the TV department suits it better.

My point is that for now, PSVR2 will be a console peripheral due to their current strategy. It would be sold at a small loss, will not have PC compatibility so as to capture the software sales in the closed garden, and any ambitions of a PC VR headset by Sony would have to be done elsewhere.

2023 will be the year.
PS will launch PSVR2.
Nintendo will launch their Switch successor.
Xbox will… fix Halo Infinite?
In theory, Xbox would hope that their subscription model would work out. Either a massive expansion of customers or a massive increase in subscription prices. That is the target, that is what they got to hope for.

Microsoft should bite the bullet and release a commercial unit of their lens or whatever. They should not wait and let Sony and co take off with the market.

There's a reason why competitive fighting tournaments are always done with wired controllers. Less latency.
Good thinkg that competitive fighting tournaments are so mainstream...Oh wait :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Casuals don't care about big latency - as long as it is "good enough", that will suffice.

I do curious about PSVR2 price though.

I know I'm just poking fun at how this forum is obsessed with TV game modes and low latency but suddenly just settling for "good enough" in VR is fine.

I'm impressed by Sony's restrain, if I was in charge I would release it this Christmas no matter how many units I had and do all the scalping myself. I would charge a premium and call it "founders edition" and also say it's in beta.

I would also work on a an wireless solution add-on so that people that are too hung up on that would have no basis to complain.

The first PSVR sold 2m in its first year.

If PSVR2 sells 1.5m at launch it will be well ahead of its predecessor!

All future VR is wireless.

The new Oculus/Meta prototype they're working on looks just like the Oasis headset in Ready Player One.

Quest will fail because no one wants a shitty Facebook account. FB is filled with mostly inactive accounts and bots, not much real user interaction.

Hoping to get one on release but I won’t lose sleep over it; I’m expecting the first batch to sell out quickly.

Exciting stuff though! Can’t wait to try one.
