Predicing Jimbo's Sony E3/big summer event State of Play

We recently saw another very likely fake rumor about a supposed upcoming 'State of Play'. I think it would be cool to make our own list Sony's E3 State of Play. Imagine you are Jimbo and have to make the list of games to be shown in their big E3 / summer digital event or conference.

I think that Sony's summerish event roadmap would look like this:
-Late May: indie focused State of Play
-Mid June: post 'E3' big summer event
-Mid August: fighting game focused event at EVO finals
-Early September: Horizon focused State of Play
-Late September: Indies focused State of Play

This is my list for their main summer event, that would be made around the E3 days.

Pre-show:
-Little Devil Inside gameplay trailer and release date (PS5, PC July 2021)
-Kena gameplay tariler and release date (PS4, PS5, PC August 2021)
-Deathloop gameplay tariler and release date (PS5, PC September 2021)
-JETT: The Far Shore (PS4, PS5, PC, September 2021)
-Ghostwire Tokyo story trailer and release date (PS5, PC, October 2021)
-Stray gameplay tariler and release date (PS4, PS5, PC, November 2021)
-Sifu gameplay tariler and release date (PS4, PS5, PC, December 2021)
-Announcement of a couple of new indies for 2021
-Announcement of their game subscription and streaming strategy improvements (PS Now and Plus)

Main show:
-Death Stranding Director's Cut (PS4, PS5 September 2021)
-CoD BO5 gameplay reveal and release date (October 2021)
-TLOU2 Factions (PS4, PS5 October 2021)
-Horizon Zero Dawn gameplay demo and release date (PS4, PS5, November 2021)
-GTA 5 Viagra Edition gameplay footage (PS5, December 2021)
-Forspoken/Project Athia gameplay trailer and release date (PS5, January 2022)
-Gran Turismo 7 gameplay demo and release date (PS4, PS5, February 2022)
-God of War Ragnarok gameplay reveal and release date (PS4, PS5, March 2022)
-Final Fantasy XVI gameplay trailer (PS5, May 2022)
-Spider-Man 2 (PS5, September 2022)
-2nd party multiplayer AAA new IP from Firewalk teaser (PS5, October 2022)
-Final Fantasy VII Remake episode 2 (PS4, PS5, 2023)
-PSVR2 headset teaser (late 2022)

Then in August at the EVO finals they'd make a fighting games related State of Play where they'd announce more stuff:
-Virtua Fighter eSports (Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown in Asia) rollback netcode patch+paid DLC coming (PS4, PS5, PC, September 2021)
-Guilty Gear -Strive- DLC (PS4, PS5, PC, October 2021)
-The King of Fighters XV released date trailer + new characters (PS4, PS5 November 2021)
-Marvel fighting game from NetherRealm announcement trailer (multi and crossgen, marketing deal with Sony 2022)
-Tekken 8 announcement teaser (multi, marketing deal with Sony, 2022)
-Project L (Riot's League of Legends fighting game) final name reveal behind the scenes video (PS4, PS5, PC, crossplay timed console exclusive, 2023)
-Street Fighter 6 announcement teaser (multi and crossgen, marketing deal with Sony Q1 2023)

What do you think Sony will announce or show in their big summer event(s)?

Edit: Just after the Death Stranding's Director's Cut announcement Geoff said Sony would make a full reveal of the game in a few weeks. So I just added it to the list, and also made some tweaks since some fighting games already have been released.

Obviously there will be a June stream around E3.

Of course some stuff is un-guessable unknowns, new IPs, etc.

Here's a basic list of stuff that could pop up:

I feel like at some point they have to talk about TLOU2 PS5.

TLOU1 released on the PS3 (with a different architecture) in mid 2013 and the PS4 Remaster was released exactly 1 year later in 2014. The PS4 was released in late 2013.

It has nearly been 1 year since TLOU2 and we haven't heard anything about it.

As far as God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West (less for me so) are concerned I think we will get some pretty harsh reality news this year. Worst case scenario LATE LATE 2021 they will show gameplay and tease Horizon for 2022 release and Gow of War Ragnarok without a release date meaning that early 2023 at the earliest for GoW Ragnarok.
GT7 was already delayed to 2022.

No idea

TBH I just want surprises (good ones). New games, sequels, FRESH MEAT to gaze at and play. We are reaching the time where it is time to deliver and that is not only true for Playstation, but also Microsoft and Nintendo.

If it is indeed like this, than it’s pretty boring. Because a lot of this was already announced a year ago. Also the cross gen titles just kills any hype for me personally.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
They'll increase the data storage limit on PS+ Cloud from 1000 to 2000
That's it.

He'll be holding a lot back.

I imagine it will be stuff we mostly know is coming... GT7, Horizon, God of War gameplay, some 3rd party stuff like COD and one or two surprises.... something like MGS remake or a reveal from the Firewalk studio for their new shooter.

Next year will be the big show, if covid is gone I imagine they will have a full blown PlayStation Experience.

Announces his partnership with Melinda Gates.

- Opens with Horizon in game (releases 2021 before Halo:Infinite)
- CoD footage
- Kena right afterwards to show indies are better 😉 than AAA shooters
Small videos from recent partnerships talking shite (no game footage)
-we love indies push with Shu because fuck it, Covid has delayed the bigger games
- Bluebox Games' Abandoned was Kojima (that son of a bitch) and the graphics were downgraded to fuck with us. I refuse to believe their website promoting a game releasing this year is so bare bones yet legit. (Their Instagram is followed by Geoff Keighley) if the words demo available now it must be.
- Gran Turismo
- Closes with GOW (no release date)

Bomba: All our games will be upscaled to 8k resolution from 720p with 10,000 nits peak brightness.

World Premier: GoW 2 will be a mobile gacha.

but why would they hold back? Now is the time to build up hype going into the fall when consoles will be more readily available. I havent bought a PS5 yet. But if Sony and their partners announce:
New Uncharted
New Spiderman
FF7 Remake Part 2 reveal
Bloodborne 2
New Dragon Quest

then I will definitely buy a PS5 for sure.

Because they don't have to push anything yet....the console is selling out and it will be hard to see one on a shelf until 2023 in all likelihood, unless Sony get some license to produce wafers or come up with some solutions to the production bottlenecks.

So, if Jim is strategic and I believe he is, I think he will hold off on the most exciting stuff till at least next year.

In fact next year I expect exciting stuff but 2023 will be the incredibly innovative stuff like the new PSHome, which will be a platform for concerts, films, game tournaments and a kind of lobby for people to socialize before jumping into games. I suspect...

God of War in 2021

Hahaha. You'll be very lucky to still get Horizon this year. GoW is way off, temper thine expectations.

I was thinking the same. What's the point of blowing your load if practically nobody can get their hands on a PS5 anyway? It's not Like Xbox has a slew of exclusives about to come out so there's no pressure at all for Sony to release a bunch of exclusives. I think it's cool that PS5 will already have Spiderman, Demon's Souls and R&C Ripped A Fart by the end of 2021 (if not more if they release one more of their big guns this year).

Yeah and we have Horizon, GOW, GT7, FFXVI and others still due for late this year and into mid next year.... so there is no panic, loads to play.

Mmmmm, I take a safe bet that God of War will be shown, at least a teaser. Some actual Horizon gameplay. Maybe an update on FFXVI. Couple of new IP's.

I think the days of Cirque du Soleil and Flute Guy are gone. Jim ain't havin nunna dat shit. I kinda miss it now, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

When is Sony going to put a ring on blue point? Lol

Don't show too much.

Focus on some smaller games and end the show off with a big AAA gameplay reveal (God of War Ragnarok or Horizon Forbidden West)

God of war reveal I think is probable. But idk if it’s coming in 2021. With Ratchet dominating the summer, Horizon dominating the fall(or winter), god of war would be too much for this year as a release.

I do expect something MGS related. There has been too much rumored and teased on that end.

  • GTA 5 Remastered gameplay footage
  • Little Devil Inside gameplay + release date
  • Kena gameplay
  • Stray gameplay
  • Forspoken gameplay
  • TLOU 2 Factions gameplay + release date
  • TLOU Remake Teaser (possible)
  • God of War in-engine trailer (no gameplay)
  • Abandoned gameplay
  • New Call of Duty
  • Arrowhead's game
  • Supermassive exclusive game announcement
Leftfield announcements:
  • One of the forgotten games: Babylon's Fall, WiLD, Project Awakening, etc.
  • If we are very lucky, we might see or hear more about PSVR 2.
Anyway, if we play really safe (like I did in my list with no big surprise announcements), this has the potential of becoming another stellar show.

I don't think they're gonna have a summer show unfortunately. Sony just does things weird and different.

I expect sony's e3 show to be a three hour earnings conference call. Talk about KPIs, revenues, projections and year over year growth. Then a repeat of the horizon 2 gameplay.... I fucking hate jimbo.
