Potential CCP virus vaccine, PittCoVacc

There is a potential vaccine for COVID-19, doctors and researchers from UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh announced Thursday.
The vaccine, which is delivered through a fingertip-sized patch, produces what is thought to be enough antibodies to neutralize the virus.
Researchers said viruses closely related to the new coronavirus show that spike proteins are important when it comes to inducing immunity. The potential vaccine works like the current flu vaccine in that it uses lab-made pieces of viral protein to build immunity.

The potential vaccine is being called PittCoVacc, short for Pittsburgh Coronavirus Vaccine.
The fingertip-sized patch increases the potency of the vaccine through the use of 400 tiny needles that deliver the spike protein pieces into the skin, where the immune reaction is strongest, officials said. It goes on like a Band-Aid and the needles dissolve into the skin because they’re made up of sugar and the protein pieces.
“It’s actually pretty painless. It feels kind of like Velcro,” said Louis Falo, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of dermatology at Pitt’s School of Medicine and UPMC.

The process of applying for an investigational new drug approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been started, with anticipation of starting a phase I human clinical trial in the next few months.
“Testing in patients would typically require at least a year and probably longer,” Falo said. “This particular situation is different from anything we’ve ever seen, so we don’t know how long the clinical development process will take. Recently announced revisions to the normal processes suggest we may be able to advance this faster.”

1 year away maybe? I hope this thing doesn't fail testing we need it.

The vaccine is not gonna save us. It's going to take too long.

We have to take responsability individually, instead of looking to the government, or other people to take care of us.

The government can help with instructions, and materials for doctors and hospitals. But there isn't enough to go around for everybody. If we get irresponsible, and let this thing run loose, not everybody is going to get treatment. We all have to fight this ourselves.

In the long term (1 year+) a vaccine absolutely will be the solution. Until that time, we are buying time for viable therapies to be developed.

I would rather know that we have a vaccine that will be available in 12-18 months then still be searching for it. IF THIS WORKS (only tested in mice so far), at least we know that once it rolls out we can go back to normal lives.

That would end a lot of uncertainty and allow governments to plan better. We could slowly remove quarantines and lockdowns while still protecting and caring for the most vulnerable while parts of society start functioning again.

Right now we don't have any end date in site. China is getting hit again(or continuing depending on how much of their lies you believe) and even though Spain/Italy have turned a small corner they still have so much more death to go through.

If we knew today that on April 2nd 2021 we would have a vaccine well then we can plan around that and make sure that the globe doesn't implode before we get there.

Since we're gonna get hit for the next two years at least, this will pay off in time. Glad that researchers are finding solutions so quickly.

Those sugar-spikes are pure sci-fi. Really cool.
