Playstation gauging gamer interest for NFT purchase in EVO survey

Turns out Playstation could still be on the fence about minting that monkey.

After reasurring gamers the Stars loyalty system will be totally not about that, Sony is sending surveys during EVO asking them what kind of NFTs they'd be interested in purchasing.

Worth noticing, the poll doesn't give an option to oppose the idea.

User snorlaxownz posted a screenshot of a survey they received from PlayStation asking, “Which of the following NFT/Digital Collectibles would you most be interested in purchasing?” The answers include EVO-branded collectibles, favorite music artists, favorite esports players and teams, PlayStation items, and favorite game characters.IGN confirmed the survey ourselves at EVO, suggesting at the very least PlayStation is gauging user interest for NFTs at the event.
Last month, Sony launched a new PlayStation Stars loyalty program that allowed players to earn digital collectibles such as figurines of its iconic characters. However, Sony clarified that these digital collectibles in the program are not NFTs as they do not utilize any blockchain technology.
Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad notes that this survey at EVO isn’t related to the PlayStation Stars program and that the term “digital collectibles” is only just a term that is commonly used interchangeably with NFTs.
The gaming industry has been vocal against NFTs. Big players such as Valve banned NFTs from Steam, and Xbox’s Phil Spencer says that NFTs, in their current iteration, are more exploitative than creative. Other companies, however, like Square Enix have started to embrace them. Square Enix recently started selling a Final Fantasy VII figure of Cloud that functions as a NFT.

You know how Sony wanted folks to know that the PlayStation Stars digital collectibles weren’t NFTs last month? Well, it doesn’t sound like Sony is completely opposed to dealing with NFT bullshit with the PlayStation brand, as EVO attendees in Las Vegas this weekend are apparently being asked what kinds of NFTs they’d be interested in purchasing.
News of this has started to spread from attendees on social media, as the PlayStation Quests program used at Sony events has been prompting those at EVO asking what kind of NFTs they’d be interested in purchasing. The available answers include: Evo-branded, Favorite music artists, Favorite Esports players/teams, PlayStation Items, Favorite Game Characters. The inclusion of musical artists makes it sounds like this might be a wider Sony initiative than just PlayStation, but even so much of the examples here are tied to video games in some way.
Unfortunately, there’s no write-in option to say “NFTs are a scam, and fake scarcity of digital goods will dilute your brand to everyone who isn’t already buying into this shit while the market is crashing.” So there doesn’t seem to be any means for users to say they’re not interested in that shit.

Why is this even a thread then?

Here we go, hopefully Sony fans won't defend this like they did £70 games :l

As it will just open the flood gates with all the third parties.
I don't understand, assuming they go ahead with it -- it's an optional purchase.

And even with the increased cost of games, what's preventing someone from waiting for a few months for the price to drop (another benefit of waiting is that the games will have additional patches/options).
