This is the one I’ve been waiting for. I think Valhalla is the first true head to head test (for everything, not just loading)

Oh I know. But some of the videos showing comparisons are pretty poor at the moment. That's why I'm interested in NXGamer NXGamer videos.

So are you ok? You kind of just vanished and I thought something happened to you.

For sure, the other Valhalla comparison thread was poor, from that Papi guy. NXGamer NXGamer and D dark10x are the sources I trust for this. Curious to see how Valhalla grades out between the two boxes.

Thanks for asking, it’s hard to explain. I might not ever be as active as I once was but I should be around for awhile

If you look at detail in miles morales up close, does it look exactly the same details as Ubisoft models in next gen games. Have you even looked ? Go watch Digital foundry on close up details in miles morales.

MM isn't using the SSD to render those models dude. They aren't all that. Valhalla and even WD Legion has just as accurate models. Hell, Marvel Avengers models look better than MM. Even Horizon Zero Dawn looks on par with MM. BG3 has more detailed models in game and Death Stranding, Detroit, TLOU 2, etc.. also has equivalent detailed models in game. You guys love to mysteriously hype the newest game on the PS5 just because it's new and declare it's doing something better than any game before it when it's actually doing the same thing. Demon Souls too. None of these PS5 games are leaping above what's already out there.

What, Cerny's promise of Secret Sauce Drive were fake and no one could predict it?

The sad reality is that your precious Switch is about to get crushed in the sales charts 😢.
Oh really? You will be surprised then about what's going to happen in Oct, Nov, and Dec.

Renders a quick resume feature pointless then.
Depends. If I have to restart a mission from the beginning and lose 15 minutes worth of progress when using quick resume it's pointless. If I don't have to restart a mission from the beginning when using quick resume then it's a valuable feature.

Disappointing on both, we've seen whats possible so I'm sorry but anyone not hitting similar ish speeds to spiderman, demon souls, nba2k etc are just not utilising the system yet and even to a similar degree on the series x either. We should not be having lengthy loads.

Splash screens on last gen games like these just haven't been removed, at least ps5 may do that but the damn devs should get rid.

Looks like these cross gen last gen games are just designed for last gen and not even close to taking advantage of the new hardware 👎

Looks like only select third party games have stepped up like DMC for eg. and first party lead the way.

I mean we literally know it can be done, spiderman is an open world game that looks incredible and yet they can load in a second or so.

Think the improvement will come as these early cross gen games developed with last gen as the lead are gone but man, disappointing from these devs.

Its like if you see a new car reach 200mph with one guy, but the next driver can only reach 35, people on here..... the cars crap, the makers lied....... or maybe the driver just isn't doing what has been proven to be possible.....

What do you mean? How is it fake if its proven to load an openworld game like spiderman in 1.3 or 2 seconds? Whole ratchet levels in 2 seconds etc etc. Many examples.

Its not magic, the hardware has literally proven it can do it, cerny was spot on it can indeed do it, but seems last gen code designed for the old ways, cpu's and not decompression blocks etc, well, some of it just isn't showing the same results as what is possible and that is disappointing.

But its more annoying because we know it can be faster, if the code is right. But its the first batch of multiplats designed for last gen so is what it is.

I am so glad I waited to Jump ship to next generation. These devices seem over rated. I was lead to believe there was some "magic sauce" but the truth it is smoke and mirrors. I will stick with my ps4/switch for the near future. May look into a Oculus Quest 2 and tell Microsoft and Sony to fuck all. There isn't any good next generation games to play anyway for now.

It not pointless though since you can turn off the console power and the next time you power it back on you can launch that game in quick resume and it will load right where you last left it even without power to the console that the power of quick resume.

For a game like Miles Morales where it's five seconds to the main menu I don't need that though. Maybe they'll add it, but it's not something I need.

Sure it will.

It needs to catch up with PS4 before trying to compete with PS5.
It will be the fastest selling console after overtaking Wii in this quarter

Meanwhile PS4 leg is on freefall and likely to end up around ~125M ltd while Switch is projected to be around 140-160M.

Launch aligned number and the gap will be massive in this Q3 as Nintendo Switch is entering the biggest quarter.

Nobody will care about 5 seconds, which is something easily perceivable and relevant to the user, but they will definitely care about an extra hundred pixels and 5 additional frames a second which require a DF analysis and 10x zoom to demonstrate.

Nah I agree they also won't care about that either. I decided not to bother with next-gen until there are more actual next-gen games out. That goes for both Microsoft and Sony.

I really don't think there will end up being that much of a different in terms of the system power, and it'll come down to who has the most creative/expressive/talented developers. On that side I think Sony wins but that's subjective so....

The amount of world detail in MM tops what we've seen in both WD and AC on consoles. Character models for everything from NPCs (of which there are many), to the title character also appear more detailed than what's found in the Ubi games you've mentioned. World geometry is harder to nail down. A city is fairly angular, but you also have lots of vehicles in addition to the NPCs.

I think you should know better than to make these kinds of claims. It's saying stuff like this that gives the impression of bias, and devalues the technical expertise that you'll share in another less polarizing post. It seems that you do this largely when it comes to Sony games, and I'm not sure why. You don't need to play things down, and definitely don't need to be disingenuous while trying to do so. A functioning pair of eyes is all you need to see that MM and DS are visually a cut above the launch crop. This being corroborated by every major outlet as well. It says nothing about the hardware, as these are exclusives with the full backing of Sony's budget. Sony first parties have made visually stunning games in every generation, whether you believe them to be the pinnacle of graphics or not.

Each of the things you said, taken on their own, could be true, but you don't provide the visual comparisons to back it. More importantly, you ignore that MM has character models comparable to some of the best games, more NPCs, more structures, more objects, 4k-8k textures, native 4k, and the best RT on consoles, all at the same time. You're attempting to "graphics snipe" the game, and ignoring that it's all part of a very stacked engine.

So I'd say you're quite wrong. The total amount of assets MM is putting on screen is quite impressive, and the visual quality is 1a or 1b for this launch class. Be it loading tricks or just brute force, the SSD is loading a large amount of data into RAM for each frame. The results speak for themselves, especially when Miles is fast traveling, or engaged in a high-speed QTE like the Rhino chase. We've not seen that kind of loading performance even from your favorite PC. I've got a 970 Evo+, and wish there was a game that could load that fast. Feel free to prove us wrong with real world examples, and not just more claims.

Did you create that graph yourself? Switch momentum will slow suddenly as it did with the Wii, it's not selling 140m. And it will continue to have a lower attach rate than PS4.

Meanwhile PS5 will be the fastest selling console of all time.

Graph was created by ZhugeEX sales analyst.

You need to take a look at Wii Sales.

Wii Sales peak on the 3rd year while Nintendo Switch is on overdrive mode in the 4th year without even a price cut.

In this Q3, Nintendo Switch will overtakes Nintendo Wii launch aligned to be the fastest selling console ever and around ~10M ahead of PS4 launch aligned.

Switch has overtaken the Wii, but it won't overtake the PS4. Playstation is just a bigger brand, appeals to more people (not just kids), and it has a superior games library.

All of those are opinions. If there is a Switch pro revision in March it will keep the momentum going for a few years.

Just look at 2020: it is the worst year for Switch in terms of games and it’s still setting record after record.

Japan sales lifetime for PS4 are already behind Switch despite the console having more years of presence and MH Rise is going to kill it there.

Who cares about cold boots when you have quick resume? After the first time, it's instant as long as it's within the last 4 or 5 games you've played.

What really matters are the load times IN GAME. My guess is PS5 wins in this case but I'll wait to see real comparisons.

Yeah and the same for Playstation in terms of momentum.

Japan is a wasteland for non-portable consoles. It's not nearly as important as Europe and the US is for Sony (and Microsoft).

I always unplug the console after I'm done gaming so yeah I care.

Switch will outsells PS5 in Nov and Dec with a new record numbers.
Sure, because even if PS5 will have the record shipments in gaming history for their first fiscal year, they will be very supply constrained (preorders were sold out in minutes worldwide), while Switch its on the peak of its lifecycle when at the same time the other consoles are just released or are at the end of their lifecycle.

Compare PS5 and Switch launch months or something like that, it would make more sense.

PS5 will also quicker loads than cold boots, and will be multiple for every game to load a specific game mode or stage directly skipping menus or logo screens, and will work for all installed games, not the most recently played ones only.

People compare cold boots and in-game loads because they are directly comparable.

Just look at 2020: it is the worst year for Switch in terms of games and it’s still setting record after record.

All gaming and internet companies experienced a huge boost since March or so due to covid. In the case of Switch, it also got in March AC, one of its best selling games ever.

PS4 also breaking records but different ones, some of them related to its point of lifecycle.

I'm afraid it's going to be other way - Switch will crush all sales charts with many records not seen since DS/wii era
Until now, aligning sales Switch sales have been pretty similar to the PS4 ones, with the only difference of their Christmas periods not being aligned. Then starting in March or so both had an unexpected peak due to covid so aligning sales Switch will have it earlier and PS4 later, which means that until these moments catch up in their launch aligned comparisions Switch will have a lead.

The thing is that PS home consoles last for 10+ years in the market, while most Nintendo home consoles last around the half or so. Nintendo portables are somewhere in the middle. I mean, in the long run PS4 will sell more than Switch because will be selling consoles at good numbers during more years.

And if we compare Switch to DS, its way under it.

You're just proving my point. Cold boot loading doesn't matter. Need to see in game loading.

Weird, so the travel from England to Norway was significantly faster on the X, but the second fast travel was a dead heat. I wonder what is different between what the 2 games are loading. I wanna suggest velocity architecture but I really don't know.

Not in terms of real life gameplay experiences. You cold boot far less than you load things in game. Therefore it the in game experience and load times that actually matter.
I think this is true, especially with multiple quick resume slots. In reality near all the loading gamers experience is in-game. Those are the most important numbers.
