Seems a small first step, let's hope they continue integrating it in more ways soon, like interatin PSN and Discord text, voice and video chats, allowing to share screenshots and videos captured on PS at these Discord chats, and even livestreams.

Plus in another step to include the discord channels as a next gen, multipatform, version of the PS Communitites.

Why do I want that though? I don't care whether or not anyone knows what I'm playing. People I'm PSN friends with can already see this if they care.

I don't actually use Discord though, so I might not be the target audience for this.

Discord is amazing for playing games with a small group of friends. We play once a week and have a youtube bot that we can just queue up music while we are playing something. Also it is useful at other times as we can chat about nerd video game shit collectively without it being tied to our real social media accounts. Having it fully integrated with PSN will be great, although you can always just use your phone if you are not PS5 gaming on a headset I guess.

I can honestly say that when it is fully integrated into PS5 I will probably boot up my PS5 more than I currently do.

Well we game on PC not PS5. But it would be nice to be live on the server when I do want to play on PS5. Also a private discord server is persistent, so you can asynchronously communicate (aka shitpost memes for others to see later).

I think you can do this in a PS5 party too. They don't disappear because people turn their console off, you can post in them using the PS app on your phone etc. Not sure if there's any way to do it from a PC though.

and you just gave the reason sony will never actually implement full Discord. they can not control what people post on there and it takes 1 article by some news site showing how easy it is to send porn or nazi pictures to each other using discod.

what do you expect them to do with this partnership? put Discord on PS5? not gonna happen, Sony would open themselves up to so much potential controversies by having Discord on PS5 that it's not worth taking that risk for the tiny benefit it has for a niche audience of people that would use it.

also Discord has been doing this on Xbox since at least 3 years and nothing further happened since then, and that was way before Sony announced any partnership with them.

Don't trip. Xbox has been feeling this pain for a few years now. Still no discord VOIP on Xbox. You can see the games Im playing on PC Gamepass, however I don't think it shows the games I'm playing on Xbox. So that's a plus?

It got worse. It stopped showing 360 backwards compatibility games a while back.
