Outriders Hit 3.5 Million Players In First Month, Is Now Square Enix's "Next Major Franchise"

Fun game.. Coop can be amazing... WHEN IT WORKS.

I am all for this becoming a major franchise, BUT the following is required

Server hosted matchmaking and games

This should resolve the issues seen with Mods/Gear not affecting characters in matchmaking and hopefully would address the shit performance when the game is hosted on Last gen consoles. Along with the random dumb disconnects, and having to restart the game to fix connection issues.

3.5M players for about a month since release for a brand new IP that didn't get a ton of marketing seems pretty good to me, even with Game Pass...

How would you do it then?

Retail sales that can be traded? Digital sales only?

People that tweeted the word?

Let's see your metric that is better than theirs.

Revenue generated? Duh, this is such an easy answer. Player count only matters for F2P, and more important than first month totals, it’s player retention that is key because those are the players that will keep generating revenue.

How would revenue generated = player retention exactly?

Yes, that’s right. Player retention means recurring revenue due to MTX.

Players who didn’t spend a dime on the game don’t matter at all. Considering the game is available on Gamepass and it didn’t exactly lit up the sales charts, a lot of people got in through the door without giving SE a single dime.

MS gave SE more money than they deserved I'm sure, and there are no MTX.

Just take the L here and move along.

Do you have anything to add to the discussion? Because you aren’t saying shit.

Player count for a standard release doesn’t mean diddly squat. Numbers are inflated.

So I'm pretty much you in every other discussion here?

Your dissection of this case is wrong and that is your last defense?

Move along and let the adults talk.

By not really being that bad. If there's anything to learn in gaming, it doesn't matter what you like or what you hate, because there will always be somebody else to buy it.
It started off really good and I thought I was in for an Sc-Fi epic then it turns into a run of the mill shooter with utterly boring and generic gameplay.

It came out on Windows, Stadia, Xbox One, Series X, PS4, and PS5. It managed 3.5 million players but with no information on the ratios or how many of those players bought a copy. Seems like the perfect thread for baseless conclusions.

I mean, it's a fun enough game until it gets boring as hell, which is a brick wall that I hit after about a week or two, but ymmv, so I dunno.

Every company wants their own Destiny but I think that's a nonsensical attempt. These games are getting so boring after around 15 hours of play time.

The game has no micro transactions so it really doesn’t matter if people continue to play it. If this means they’ll have more money for dlc or a sequel that has way more polish and production value then great.

Avengers had 2.2M sales first month... considering this was a gamepass launch game that playerbase numbers doesn't look to be good at all.

I don't understand how people can play the same games over and over again without getting bored.
Outriders looks like the most generic game imaginable.

Nobody talking about the 30 hours average playtime? That seems absolutely huge. A ton of people start a game and uninstall it within 20 minutes. This means there are a lot of people out there who have an absolute shitton of hours in this game. Gameplay loop works well it seems.

What’s with all those millions of GP members not even giving a chance to a major game from major publisher offered to them through subscription? Strange and concerning for future GP hopefuls.

I have been playing this over the last week and despite being repetitious as fuck, I really like it. I’m trying different approaches to liven it up and there is something satisfying about setting people on fire and watching them explode. The story is simple, but it has that cynical vibe too it and everyone’s an asshole so that is a plus.

And it really looks like people actually do play it. I recently got out of the forest so I reckon the end of the game is near and story based achievements there have been collected by more than 20% of players. That is really impressive, because the game is relatively new, is on GP and it took me around 24 hours to get there.
