Streets of rage
Golden axe
Wonder boy
Res 1-3
Mgs1
Onimusha

And loads more that I cba to write out and loads I can't think of right now!

I honestly feel sorry the the latest generation of gamers as they'll never experience the 'wow' factor us older gamers experienced during console generations. I remember having an atari and being blown away by the amiga/commodore etc.. And then playing a game like mgs1 was just out of this world. I'd never experienced such a game in my life.

I wish I could flick a switch and forget every game I had played and start again.

If they keep improving VR, I could see that sort of "wow" factor staying relevant.

And I think for me personally "wow" moments are more tied to specific moments in games, not just how the game generally looks or plays. I honestly can't remember my reaction to seeing Mario 64 for the first time for example. But I do remember that feeling of the opening scene of Bioshock 1 coming out of the plane wreckage and seeing that lighthouse in the middle of the ocean. I remember that long descent Heather makes in Silent Hill 3 in the mall as she goes down that ladder in the middle of it. I remember those two musical sections of Mario Odyssey and just having the biggest grin on my face. I remember my eyebrows lifting as I heard the voice of the 2nd to last boss of the Bloodborne: Old Hunters DLC speak and realizing exactly who I was about to throw down with (and the moveset, visuals, and music, holy shit did they deliver). I remember making that final delivery in Death Stranding with tears coming down my face. And I remember those ending credits of Nier: Automata and how I felt connected to thousands and thousands of people in such a unique way.

Trust me, the newer generation may have missed a very specific sort of "wow" factor but I don't think think it lessens their gaming experience that significantly. Heck, for the more open-minded of them, plenty of older games are still available digitally and they can see older games through a unique lens that us older games can't, that's one way of looking at it.

Too many to list, really. Some standouts are Ocarina of Time and FFVII.

For me, it's the sounds and music. As soon as I hear them, I'm right back there in my teens.
Yup. Music is always what makes me remember anything long-term and is the most powerful element in nostalgia. The only thing that brings me back more powerfully in my memories and time period is scent. There's certain smells that immediately transport me back to my childhood, and music does the exact same with gaming.

With all those AAA games trying to imitate films, with high profile actors, voices, composers, representation friendly, graphical fidelity, art etc people have forgotten that games were originally low pulp entertainment and are mostly shunned upon or labelled as problematic. Computers had also the advantage of being an adult game platform. Andrew McMillan's Flash game "Cunt" back then reminded me of that.

So any softporn or hardcore porn game that breaks all the above standards, takes me back in time.

This one takes me back to my youth immediately. I remember my mom teaching me to tie my shoes and had to figure it out to play the game
Donkey Kong Country 2

The first game I received for a birthday after renting it over 10 times at the "super club videotron"
Kirby Super Star

Those 2 games are the only ones that the music only will take me back to simpler days.

There are so many that I will play for a few hours and fall off, but I will pop in Actraiser once every 6 to 8 weeks. Through complete muscle memory, I will go from beginning to end in 3 to 4 hours depending on how much I want to level up my villages.
