GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - A police officer is out of a job and her friend faces felony charges after the officer let her friend borrow her badge and gun to get free snacks from QuikTrip, police said...Gwinnett police told Channel 2's Tony Thomas that the officer worked for the Department of Community Supervision. Her friend was a former officer for the department.

Made me laugh, but this is what really got me:

Gwinnett police Officer JT Smith saw the incident and didn't recognize the officer.

When Smith pulled the woman's car over, she was still wearing the gun and badge.

Video shows the moment Smith confronted Pektra Edgerton, 33. Edgerton claimed she worked for DCS.

"Are you a police officer, or are you not a police officer?" Smith asks on the tape.

"So a black person walks into a store with a badge and a gun and it's an issue?" Edgerton asks on the video.

"It has nothing to do with you being black," Smith says.

So she forgets to take the shit off, and the officer who didn't recognize her when she got the food pulls her over and asks what's up. The woman tries to lie to the police officer's face, saying she works for the DCS. The cop calls her out, and she doubles down, pivoting to some imagined racism (the NYT would be proud)

After several seconds, Edgerton finally told the truth.

"You don't have to be a police officer to go in there. I've been doing it for three years," Edgerton said, claiming she was still a DCS officer.

Smith then turned his attention to the passenger, Brandi Green, a real DCS officer who the gun and badge belonged to.

Thomas contacted DCS to find out if Green was still employed as an officer. A spokesman said in a statement:

"Upon being made aware of Ms. Green's conduct, an internal investigation was initiated and Ms. Green was immediately suspended After Ms. Green was made aware of the forthcoming investigation, she resigned ... on the same day."

God damn, she just needs to own up to the fact that she did something illegal. She should know better, especially since she was a police officer at one point. Christ some folks are dumb as shit.

The fact an officer (real or not) was getting free stuff just for being a cop should be grounds for dismissal right then and there.

I worked for a sheriff's dept a while back and we were expressly told many times do not take anything from anyone ever, period. If it was found out I took something for free while on duty or off duty and displaying anything that showed I was a sheriff's deputy then you were suspended without pay for 1 week, a 2nd offense was grounds for termination.

We weren't allowed to even get a free cup of coffee because it could be seen as an abuse of power. Or could be seen as expected favoritism from the person giving it. Can be seen as a bribe. And other reasons. The only time we were allowed to take something was when it went through the department. Like a local public group had food catered to us on Thanksgiving one year for those of us on duty. Or a local red hat society made cookies for the department one Christmas. But we weren't allowed to just accept things on our own.
