You should speak more clearly then. No one here is trying to read your mind.

When you say shit like that it makes you sound like a "PCMR" fanboy.

As someone that loves gaming on PCs and consoles I find the whole PC superiority complex stupid and juvenile.

PC is obviously the most powerful platform and will always have the top benchmarks when it comes to graphical tech but it doesn't mean that console games and their tech achievements should be ignored

When you say stuff like "no one remembers KZ2 and UC2 for their graphics" it makes you sound stupid but I'm glad you clarified what you were saying even though I don't necessarily agree with you.
And I never said those console games didn't look good. I even agree with most of NX Gamer's list. I simply took offense to the attempt at revisionist history which said Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 raised the bar after Crysis, which is a farce.

People aren't going to suddenly forget those games because they just played CP2077 with raytracing on a high-end rig. That's not the way shit works.
Every gen I build a PC mid way through the gen to play games at 60 fps and tbh, see what the fuss is all about. Did it with half life 2, then for crysis and again for metro exodus after seeing Alex jizz all over realtime global illumination. And it's the same underwhelming experience every time. i expect a generational leap and never get it. well, with the exception of Half Life 2 which tbh is probably the best shooter ever made. every other game hyped by pc people on forums just fails to live up to expectations. i remember being extremely underwhelmed by Crysis' lighting. i turned off ray tracing in metro so many times, rebooted the game and tbh, couldnt tell the difference.

And now with cyberpunk. I had everything on high and even at 1440p and 30 fps the game didnt blow me away. it's not next gen. it's a stellar looking game and the city is easily the most impressive urban city created this gen, but i was expecting my jaw to drop after all the praise from DF.

I think RDR2 takes the win this gen and thats a game running on a 1.3 tflops x1s. i am struggling to see how cyberpunk is better. RDR2 does everything better. Not just the world design. Animations, level of detail, facial animations, cinematography, atmosphere, NPCs, everything. Just like GTAV the gen before looked better than crysis. thankfully because its multiplat and on PC, it doesnt get dismissed like sony exclusives.

I have the same issue with CP2077. Looks incredible graphically but the dumbass AI and glitches take me out of the experience. Also I find the animations and character models to be a bit underwhelming. It's probably due to the fact the game was rushed but for me when judging graphics it's important to take in the whole package.

For me while games like TLOU2 and RDR2 may not have all the fancy graphical tech like CP2077 they still impress me more due to their overall polish and attention to detail.

I feel like CP2077 will eventually live up to the original hype after all the patches come through but right now I'm a bit disappointed with it and I can't lie. It's probably why I agree with NXGamer that it shouldn't be on the list even though technically it's doing far more than other games on the list.

🤣🤣🤣 @ the clowns screaming “bias” because the list is dominated by Sony games. What the fuck do you expect? Sony is well known for going the extra mile to polish their games when it comes to presentation. It would be biased if the list wasn’t dominated by Sony games considering the stellar year they’ve had.

Fuck your feelings, Sony should be given credit for going the extra mile. You being mad your favorite publisher isn’t on the list doesn’t mean that NXGamer is a shill. He gave honest and fair reasons why he picked those games and if you can’t stand his opinion go make your own YouTube tech channel.

Relegating CP77 to the honorable mentions next to fucking Sackboy sure sounds like a fair and honest assessment of GFX tech. Dude is not a shill, he just found his niche catering to the numerous Sony fanboys. He gives you what you expect, so you come back for more. In the PC world some do that with the AMD fanboys. They never reach the same highs as the more balanced youtubers, but they still get by.

You have to play maxed out with RT on psycho (and preferably not at 30 fps) otherwise there's indeed nothing impressive - at least not more impressive than any game from the list in the OP (FS2020 aside). What sets this game appart from the rest from a tech standpoint is all the raytracing, which combined with the scale of the world is simply unprecedented.

From the PS3 era I also thought that God of War 3 visuals were incredible.

I do agree that Crysis looked great back then. But that doesn't discredit what developers achieved on the PS3.
GoW3 looked incredible. The titan levels were an amazing technical showpiece. Sony devs have always used the tech to achieve setpieces and levels that most devs have still not accomplished. The only problem was that it came out the same year as RDR and was overshadowed by the brilliance of RDR's world design. Any other year and it wins gotys and graphics awards left and right.

Never played RDR, but GOW3 is a very good game. If RDR is anything like its sequel, it had no business beating GOW3 but R* pretty much wins awards by default despite how badly their games play and control.

It does look nice like most R* games since GTA IV.

Dude already gave us the reason why he didn't put CP2077 at the top of the list and I agree with him.

CP2077 on a pure graphical level is untouchable but dude isn't looking at things from a purely graphical level, he's judging based on a technical level as well, and honestly the game is a technically unoptimized mess like he explained. The game is clearly unfinished and because of its unfinished nature it doesn't deserve to be on the list this year.

I'm thinking he probably wants to save CP2077 for the 2021 awards when the game is fully patched. Dude's reasons were fair, I don't know where you people are getting this "shill" nonsense from.

my pathetic rtx 2080 cant do RTX effects at psycho with dlss on quality mode and anything below quality makes it look more like 1080p than 1440p. but i will give it a shot and report back.

i said this earlier in the thread but FS2020 should be at the top of every graphics list this gen. first truly photorealistic game this gen and it doesnt matter if its a sim. if we started dismissing sims then we might as well stop counting racing games on best of lists. I can live with DF and NX gamer straight up saying they prefer TLOU2 or cyberpunk over FS2020, but to me FS is the complete package. the weather simulation, world rendering and day and night cycles, the game has it all. aside from adding crashes which is clearly not there because of 9/11, there is nothing the game can do better.

Well, nerds will probably point out certain things FS2020 doesn't do very well.
One such example i saw one such nerd commenting on are system and mechanical failures of the aircraft, which are very limited and overall doesn't seem to be very accurate.

Well, there are definitely very obvious areas that can improve too.
The issue is that what the game has shown is already the top of the top of whats physically possible to achieve in this genre. But there's still clear areas where we can go even further, when we get the tech for it.

so i set everything at max or psycho and yeah, it does look better. its still not leagues ahead of everything thats been released this gen and while the buildings look great, on the ground things look markedly current gen. the game looks very blurry for some reason.

took some screenshots, still a fantastic looking game and if it wasnt for FS2020, i would be perfectly fine with people giving it their best graphics of 2020 award. just like im ok with tlou2 getting it.

Demon Souls looks absolutely stunning at times. The problem with DS is that the graphics suffer when you are in soul form and the damn ghost aura completely ruins the overall image quality. it looks way better when you are in human form and can appreciate the character models and how they blend in with the gorgeous environments. im still not convinced its fully next gen, but it's got by far the most detailed character models this gen.

Problem is, wet, dark, neon lit city street are always aesthetically impressive, that’s why the entire package is the proper indicator...the environment, characters, animation, physics, polish.

2013, PS4.....look at the environmental density....

The funny thing is that this shouldnt come as a surprise to anyone. Sony has been on the top of the graphics going back to the PS3 gen and dare I say consistently. I remember when everyone was losing their minds over Crysis, PS3 owners were treated to Uncharted Drake's Fortune, Ratchet, Motorstorm and Heavenly Sword all in one year. MGS4 launched the next year and set another bar. Back then Gamespot awards gave it best graphics over Crysis Warhead and pc players lost their shit. But there has always been more to graphics than just pushing raw pixels.

In 2009, KZ2 and Uncharted 2 came out and set the bar for the rest of the gen that wasnt topped until GTA5 and Halo 4 came out late in the gen. GoW4, Heavy Rain and GT5 in 2010. KZ3 and Uncharted 3 in 2011. TLOU, KZSF and Beyond in 2013. Infamous Second Son and DriveClub in 2014. The order and Until Dawn in 2015. Uncharted 4 and Ratchet in 2016. Horizon and Lost Legacy in 2017. GoW, Detroit, and Spiderman in 2018. Days Gone and Death Stranding in 2019.

Every year for well over a decade, sony exclusives, first party or third party have been right up there with the best the PC and Xbox have to offer. This year is no different.

I dont know. Maybe this is their first year gaming.
I think crysis was in own league in 2007 but yeah, sony studios are for years top tier in industry

CP2077 is miles ahead on tech from TLOU2 and is not even in the list. And TLOU2 looks great, yes, but technically there are 3-5 games in better place.
Nope, enabling rt on gi, reflection and shadows doesn't make immediately it technical marvel when it's opposite with enormous number of bug, memory leaks, performance problems and very underwhelming ai it's technically mediocre game. It's very good looking game on strong pc not because it's technical marvel but because it has very detailed city for an open world game.

Killzone probably doesn't get enough credit for how great it looked at the time (how great it still looks, frankly), but it's not close to CP77 maxed out IMO

Do you seriously want to compare open world game with fully dynamic weather and day/night cycle with shooter with small corridors levels with fully baked light? And even without taking that into consideration that screens IMO looks generation appart from maxed Cyberpunk. Whatever drugs you are taking consider half of dosage.

Yes we do.
A 2013 1.8TF LAUNCH game is comparable.

Nothing controversial in that list.

Efficiency matters, and given the constraints its running under TLOU2 is the best technical achievement in graphics coding of 2020.

Cyberpunk is very good, but the truth is it only shines given the right hardware. You cannot avoid the fact that the last-gen console versions are not ports, they are the same code - just running on weaker systems. The inclusion of new technologies like RT shouldn't really enter into it as they are functions of the hardware.

Yes, the engine and assets need to support the hardware and API functionality, but when you see what teams like ND and ID are squeezing out of much less capable cpu and gpu pairings... its hard to imagine that they'd have great issues with leveraging that tech in their pipelines when and if the opportunity to do so presents itself.
