NVIDIA - Not a Hair Out of Place: Neural Physics Enables Realistic Simulations

IbizaPocholo

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

An NVIDIA research paper showcases a method that can simulate tens of thousands of hairs in high resolution and in real time using neural physics, an AI technique that teaches a neural network to predict how an object would move in the real world.

The team’s novel approach for accurate simulation of full-scale hair is specifically optimized for modern GPUs. It offers significant performance leaps compared to state-of-the-art, CPU-based solvers, reducing simulation times from multiple days to merely hours — while also boosting the quality of hair simulations possible in real time. This technique finally enables both accurate and interactive physically based hair grooming.

How about they spend a fraction of this effort for something like auto-optimization of games? You know - something players can actually use?

You want Nvidia to create a software that auto-optimizes games?
And I take it you dont mean the already existing GFE which selects the best settings for your hardware?

Cuz if a game is broken.....no amount of settings tinkering will fix it.
And devs arent going to give source access to Nvidia at a consumer level to "auto-optimize" games if you mean the other kind of optimization.
