Not knocking the Lego Star Wars but is there no interest in a non-lego Stars Wars video game based on the original trilogy, prequels, and sequels?

I mean in the vein of the old Star Wars games on the SNES. I know that we got Battlefront and Fallen order but how about a next gen Star Wars game based on the Sky Walker saga? I know that we know the story but the games could kick butt if done right. Again nothing against the lego stuff but I want a fully realized version without the lego design. Do you all think that is something that would be popular with gamers?

Of course there is, but such games are targeting a different demographic and are just too expensive since they're higher quality across the board. Or at least, AAAIDS scale, so lots of expensive people and assets, etc.

Lego + Star Wars = Low effort game with low bar for expectations aiming for kids, and enough marketing money between the two to ensure a successful result of their slap-job.

I mean lego star wars, the new one, is massive in its own right.

Otherwise it simply wouldn't be financially possible to make a star wars game of that scale with realistic assets.

Having said that, you do feel like all these star wars games should/could just be sourcing the raw assets from lucas film at this point, aka, they shouldn't be having to build things like stormtroopers from the ground up for every single game etc.

I get what you mean but I think it would be "difficult" to please gamers with a project like this. If you limit your game to an adaptation of a movie, it would be quite limited in term of scope, and people who thinking about their dream star wars game probably want freedom, lot of exploration etc, which might not be possible if you have to follow the context of a movie.

Movie tied creates a lot of obstacles, you might be able to create a decent action / narrative game, but I think people, or at least that's my case, want more than just this for a big star wars game. I'm also not sure many people would be that excited about going through the events of the movies again, no surprise, everything you already know, I don't know...

I also think most of the good stuff from star wars is stuff outside of the movies, especially if you count the sequel and prequel trilogies... People love stuff like Kotor or Jedi Knight because they expand that world and can tell new stories without being stuck by what the movies allow you to tell.
It works for LEGO games because they're very goofy, not taking themselves seriously so deviating from the movies event and having ton of random stuff isn't shocking there.

Personally I would be more interested in an original story in a "The Mandalorian" style. It could let you visit familiar places if you're looking for nostalgia and stuff, but for the interest of the game, the Star Wars universe is rich enough to create something outside the context of the movies. I'm also personally pretty tired of the whole skywalker thing and I prefer things outside of that context.

I use to think Lego games were throw away cash grabs.. like the new version of the movie game..
but then I played a good one which was marvel super heros . I had a blast with that game so I tried more. They all play differently .. some are bad .. some are great though!!

Not intended to be rude, but I think asking if that interest exists is a silly question. I think there are a ton of people out there that aren't even gigantic SW fans that would be down AF.

PT and OT sure. No interest in ST whatsoever.

But yeah im tired of Lego SW. Of course I hated fallen order or whatever too so I'm probably stuck with old SW games regardless.

It'd be really dope to play a game based in the universe between New Hope and Empire Strikes Back thats fully realized, with a good budget/backing behind it. I also would like something set in the Star Wars Universe that has nothing to do with any of the time lines we've seen before, maybe something based on those books that came out that were set far in the past of it all - or even older...Hell I wish they hadn't made some of the "Expanded Universe" stuff non-canon and just pumped games/comics out of those(A series based on Jacen Solo would have been classic for instance)

And for the record the Lego game that came out today, I got about 4 hours into it as I was off today and played it on/off multiple times today and it's really fun. Some parts feel like they might be a bit too tough for the 'Kid Crowd' but then again maybe im just getting old and it was kickin my ass lol

What I'm interested: a game where you hunt the Jedi, playing as inquisitor, like assassin's Creed Odyssey and the cult members

Could make for a nice twist at the end with the player changing to the good side

Lol reading these replies makes me see star wars has become like sex and porn. Everyone likes it, bit they have a little kink and specific way they like to do it, to really enjoy it.

By the way I'm loving the Skywalker saga. I've turned off regenerating health and auto aim and with the new aiming mechanics and melee combo it plays so different than the other Lego games. Feels like a propergame now. Playing maxed out 4k 60 on pc and it looks gorgeous too.

Part of the reason why I got The Skywalker Saga is because it's right now one of the best options to relive the movies in videogame-fashion.

Rogue squadron that actually is a rogue squadron game and not a misnamed X-Wing VS Tie-Fighter
This right there. If they just crammed OG Rogue Squadron into UE4 and updated its assets with the ones from Rogue Leader, I would pay 60$ for that shit instantly. But better yet, make a new game in the same vein.

Being a Lego game let's them deviate from the movies and add in a bunch of random crap without it seeming terribly out of place. A realistic looking game wouldn't have as much freedom. It doesn't make sense for Luke, Han and the gang to be on their way to Alderaan and then suddenly decide that they wanna go back to Tatooine and run about looking for collectibles. Just make an original open-world star wars game if you want that imo.

Movie tie-ins come with too much baggage if you're not going for silliness like a Lego game.

Absolutely, something single player and done well. Like FO.

Star Wars games are not that successful as many think. The risk (that it does not sell well) is high and the license costs, too.
The Lego games are ... well somehow it's own genre. They normally sell quite well and they can make stuff (because it is lego) they don't take to serious. In the end they have a big target audience.

Good non-Lego Star Wars game stopped being a thing when Disney bought Lucasfilm and killed LucasArts.
Fallen Jedi is the exception to this, but you're 100% right for all the other titles. The battlefront titles by EA just feel souless and squadrons was ho-hum too.

To this day it remains a mystery why Star Wars never got a Indiana Jones and Fate of Atlantis treatment, it could have been awesome, literally they had a template right there....also what of Force unleashed 3? I only just started the first one as it was cheap on an Xbox online sale.....played the original demo but never brought it back then....

Fallen Order is poor man's Jedi Knight.
I stand by what I said.
To each their own. I thought Fallen Order was a pretty good metroidvania style Star Wars title with an interesting story. A bit clunky, but overall a very enjoyable experience.

On a different note, I still wish we got that bounty hunter game "1313" or whatever it was going to be called. That one looked legit.

Really liked fallen order but the lack of fast travel was poor, such a chore to get back to the lower part of the maps. Good game besides that

I was more interested in Amy Hening's Star Wars game with Visceral.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is one of my favorite games of all time and, in my opinioin, Amy's finest hour.
A Star Wars game with her as lead was enticing, to say the least.

There's interest, but Star Wars is kind of a casualty of today's "AAA or Bust" attitude.

There was a time when Star Wars games were made just to fit a genre: here's a Star Wars racing game, here's a Star Wars strategy game, here's a Star Wars RPG, here's a Star Wars fighting game for some reason... The trend in games has moved away from disconnected, prosperous, middle-of-the-road efforts to more in-canon mega-releases. If a Star Wars game gets announced, it's got to be a STAR WARS game.

...For better or worse. There have been a lot of bad Star Wars games just shoveled into various categories, but there have also been some gems in those weird offshoots (including the LEGO Star Wars games themselves) that made it well worth the time; there have also been some stinkers even when LucasGames (or now Disney LucasGames) had a moonshot game and it didn't live up to the hype; there are also many corpses of AAA Star Wars games which crumbled under their own ambitions and never released. So, is what we have now better or worse? Having bought a few of the games that sucked, but also being a fan and wondering why there aren't more Star Wars games (even in the PSN/XBLA market or heck the Mobile market, where there's a much lower level of expectation and these genre games do sometimes come out,) the void is clearly felt.

Not to my knowledge but they were known for making a bunch of movie tie ons in the late 80's.
*checks wiki*
Yeah holy shit lol

So visually I confused them from the memory banks.
Probe was for MK1
Ocean was for other stuff
