Wait wait they didn't see this backlash coming? LMAO this makes them look so incompetent. Who running things over there XD.
Well they don't have a customer base that likes everything the company does.

People were fine with 80 euro games on playstation, so they hoped they could away with stuff like this as well.

Microsoft is in no position to be cocky like their rival.

For those saying they have "lost trust" with ms - the market always did and always will control pricing. Both Sony and ms woukd charge $99 a game and $20 a month for live/ps+ if they thought they could get everyone to pay. So there's no trusting any game company - only the market driving the sales. Just look at Nintendo and thier "anti consumer" $60 remakes and no price drops for years - the market will pay it, so they do it.

So as far as Xbox gold and ps+, both ms and sony will be forced to consider the most the consumer will pay along with what the competition is doing. Eventually both will go up.
You forget to mention Free-to-Play. Both Sony and Nintendo did the math, and realized they would make MORE money, if games like Fortnite are not blocked behind a paywall. Microsoft however, somehow was fighting against the trend and was deliberately earning less money by making it cost Gold. Microsoft was fighting against the market, and lost. They just finally admit it now.

You mean it is a shit move by Take Teo, other will follow

Do Take Two have 46 million subscribers to an online service that is nearly pure profit?

By my rough calculations (46m x £40, £10 less than RRP for yearly sub, not factoring in localised costs or monthly subs paying more) Sony will be making a minimum of around £1.84 billion a year from Plus. Can’t they allocate an additional few million out of that for their first party devs? Or are you just happy to keep footing the costs? They didn’t have that revenue stream for the PS1, 2 or 3 - yet they survived.

Source for the sub count as of Oct 20;

Dude, I'm glad somebody extracted that bullet from their ass.

That being the case, the fact that they dared to go there in the first place is incredibly troubling. Like, who made that decision? How did it get greenlit?

I'm not letting them off the hook that easy.

You know that your $80 math is misleading and if you want to talk about rising game prices do not make shit up at least, you have a point about some games going above the $59 barrier without having to embellish it which only makes it sound like console warring sound bites.

Let’s deflect and make it all about Sony . By the same class of arguments there MS is a trillion+ dollar company with immense revenue streams that Sony does not have and could be giving the XSX away for free or for like $99, why don’t they? Monsters!

It has nothing to do with subs. Game development cost goes higher, TaKe Two was the first who raised the prices to 70, other will follow

Let's not forget that Sony doesn't have to pay the console manufacturer 30% of its revenue. This is another scumbag move by a console manufacturer that is trying to push for a policy that will benefit them in the future. I can't believe I'm saying this but Nintendo is the one that is becoming the least anti-consumer and not because they're so nice but because the other 2 are complete fucking assholes.

The Sony price rise sucks but it's clearly just an early adopter tax and everybody knows the games will be discounted if you're prepared to wait. That's why the backlash wasn't there to the same extent.

Read my posts over the last day if you think I’ve deflected anything. I actually said I was happy to sell my Xbox and just build a PC if they’d have stuck with this.

I’m happy to keep the conversation strictly to Gold and Microsoft, but the thread is filling up with people blowing Sony.

Can’t even comment on the bolded part of your comment, as it’s pure stupidity.

I didn’t even think about the 30% cut but you are right.

I’m still pissed of that Nintendo joined the subscription club but as you say, £15 a year makes it look like they’re practically doing me a favour compared to Sony and Microsoft.

It really does.

‘this is our profit, now do we absorb these new costs or pass them on to the customer’ - it’s really straight forward.

Anybody who's like "Great for Microsoft, glad they listened" right now is delusional. As long as things are okay now, this whole thing is fine? I mean they've revealed their intentions and it is completely opposite of everything we've known about Microsoft leading up to the new gen. It was all about Gamepass and extreme value. Now it feels like it's all a trap and they find someway to get more money out of us. It'll be MTX is games more aggressively, raising the price of Gamepass, maybe taking 1st party titles out of Gamepass...I don't know. I'm not stupid though, they'll find a way.

Wow good on Microsoft for listening, for people who say complaining doesn't work, or for people who were defending Microsoft about price hike or F2P games not being free now looking silly.
Companies need to be praised for doing a good job, but they also had to be brought down a notch when they are not. It is the job of a fan to complain when they need to, it does not do them any good to think playing along with PR would somehow benefit the company in the long run.

As some others have said, we are likely seeing Xbox trying to find higher profits where ever they can. Because in the end the endless warchest is a myth. The money has to come from somewhere.

if you ask me, this increased the odds of Bethesda games going multiplat, by a LOT. Because MS already saw how much money Minecraft is making, and as such unless Xbox can find alternate revenue streams like doubling price of Gold, there are not many other ways to justify the purchase price.

The "deep pockets" Xbox is over. Time to reap and harvest. Even if it means Xbox as a brand suffers. Microsoft doesn't care where the money comes from, they just want to see the green.

Not really, you have people bringing Sony in to crap on them and to use it as a way to prop MS up in this as saints and people discussing those arguments are then called.. yes “people blowing Sony”. Let’s be real come on.

You may not want to debate the bolder, but if the argument about extra revenue streams with PS+, not having to pay themselves a 30% fee, etc... to make them sound greedier because they raised the price on some of their games then as absurd as it may sound to you the argument I made has weight. You can throw both arguments in the trash sure, but you cannot only mark one of them as nonsensical and not the other.

What a weird decision. Why even announce it then, were they seriously thinking people would be okay with paying twice the amount?

Great they back tracked on this. I wish Sony would over their game prices, $96 for the standard SKU of Returnal in the UK 😂😂😂.
I see it on Amazon U.K. as £69 instead of their PS4 pricing of £59, on Amazon US at $69.

I do not get it, you can still complain (as if you really had a stake in it) without making shit up by using regional pricing and currency conversions...

I understand you are so fast to accuse, since you have great experience yourself being a ps defender. to claim others they are console warring.

I never said 80 usd games. I said 70 usd games and 80 euro games. You clearly show what the problem is.

Demon's soul, 70 usd
Godfall, 70 usd
Nba 2k21, 70 usd
Black ops cold war 70 usd nba 2k21 and cold war is 60 euro on xbox series X.

Are you OK paying 10 usd/20 euro more for ps5 games? Or are you still just denying while swiping your credit card? I wonder.

But I'm console warring for calling out Sony for having more expensive games.

You are displaying yourself. Please let it go its embarrassing.

No one complaining about it will make the early adopter tax being permanent.

Some people in here even said it was a good thing because great games costs money. Yes, I'm not lying.

Was there a early adopter tax on xbox one/ps4? I don't recall it.

Microsoft have no early adopter tax.

I wouldn't doubt it. Especially the established IP's. Though TES was originally exclusive on Xbox I just can't see it happening now that we see them trying to make up for the purchase. They were supposed to make it back in games. Not by doubling the price on Xbox Live Gold. If your theory is correct, then it might mean that previously they were considering exclusivity. I still think new IP's might be exclusive. Starfield for example. Even then, it'll be timed, I think.

Do you fuck.

I’ll keep to the topic now, I’m happy to call out anti-consumer practices regardless of company.

Oh but just so you know, £69 doesn’t exist in a bubble. If we are paying £69 but someone on planet earth only has to pay the equivalent of £30, we have a right to feel aggrieved. You can’t even get your basic facts right, PS4 games have never retailed for £59 in this country apart from digitally.

You are console warring because you are trying to turn the thread into a Sony focused one deflecting all attention to your inflated idea of how evil Sony is for their pricing (when MS tried to double the price of LIVE and highlighted how they put F2P behind a paywall on top of it all ).

Some PS5 games have increased (and more will sure, but like the censorship angle people tried to sell as Sony only, again... tip of the iceberg) to $69 from $59 (similar delta can be observed in the Eurozone or the U.K. where games have increased from £59 to £69). You taking regional pricing and converting it back into $ makes more for tabloid like shock news than anything else and you know that.

Wtf currency conversion is "making things up"? The majority of this board are American and so I was letting people know how much Sony are fleecing people in different regions.

And I'm not sure what "as if you really had a stake in it" means when I'm a all digital primarily Playstation gamer.

You need to calm down a little bit. These companies don't love you back.

I am saying you are making rules and expectations for one company different than the other and using it to call one company greedier. Give some homeless person £10 and call them greedy if they do not want to give back £1 in tax/charity... just in case there is confusion, it was just a metaphor.

As I said, throw what I said in the trash, I would too... together with the argument about Sony being evil and greedy because they did not eat the costs and reduced their other margins.

It still does not compute why we are deflecting the chat here on Sony first and second what has regional pricing got to do with it beside ammo for more similar warring? I am not sure you have got much of a point with “singling out” Sony regional pricing here.

Or, 30 usd because of the 10 usd increase, but yeah I get your point.

But it's still shit to pay 10 usd more on ps5 for the same game, as xbox players. I think it's insane it didn't get more backlash.

But if no one complains then Microsoft will follow soon, just like Sony would have followed if xbox live could have gotten the price increase without backlash. But yeah, we are agreeing. No reason to derail the thread too much and be happy for the Xbox players for Microsoft listening to them.

I said xbox live increase is bad. Luckily it got reversed. The PS5 game increase is bad. Sadly it doesn't get reversed as people aren't complaint as much.

Also i never said ps5 games was 80 usd but 70 usd and 80 euro.

And then you are comparing UK pound with euro while saying I'm converting currency.

Have a great weekend sir.

I'm not warring. This MS price increase was bad and so to is the outrageous price Sony is charging for its first/second party games outside of America. What I was pointing out for the people coming in gloating is both companies can make terrible pricing decisions. That's just adding context around the discussion.
