Today’s issue of Famitsu included a spread on the upcoming souls-like action-RPG Nioh 2, and it included some interesting assets and information.

The article also included an interview with developers and Koei Tecmo executives.

Asked about the possibility of creating a new Ninja Gaiden, Director Fumihiko Yasuda answered that he really wants to make it, so he asked President Hisashi Koinuma who was also being interviewed at the same time.

Koinuma-san answered laughing that it can’t be done, as Yasuda-san needs to work on the DLC for Nioh 2.

Yasuda-san concluded the exchange by saying “I see, It still can’t be done” and laughing.

Not entirely relevant, but concidering getting Nioh 2 physical since it got some great praise in reviews, however any idea how big a day 1 patch for that would be?, no ethernet internet atm so restricted data might make it not possible if it's too big.

How were the PS360 NG games? Worth picking up?
Ninja Gaiden is the single best 3D action game made to date, so yes, it can be worth picking (the best 2D is still Shinobi 3 on Mega Drive).
Be aware that the Sigma versions on PS3, while adding content, offer a somewhat more diluited experience.

After the new Team Ninja made Ninja Gaiden 3, I'm not at all sure I want another chapter from these guys. The dev responsible for the combat system (I repeat, the best 3D action combat system created, until now at least) is not even a dev anymore, if I'm not mistaken.

Nioh is a step in the right direction but they're still very far, I'm sorry but the bar is just too high.

Ah, Shinobi. Theres the ps2 game available on psn. Do you have any experience with that version? Looks pretty intense from the videos on YT.

I have read/watched the best place to play the NG games is on the og xbox (NG Black is it?) and the 360 versions for reasons - Performance/content and the color pallete, of all things. May have been a Digital Foundry video or something.

Proper deep games with something to sink your teeth into. Im finding that the older i get the more of a challenge I need. Didnt have the patients when I was younger.

I like both, I'd definitely want a modern Ninja Gaiden

But First, Fatal Frame please.

I much rather play new Ninja Gaiden (which we'll be more close to Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 and 2) than another Nioh game.
And "I" would much rather play the Nioh series then Ninja Gaiden. Our comments are merely opinions from a preference stand point, nothing more.

I prefer Revenge of Shinobi to Shinobi 3, but yeah, Shinobi on Mega Drive are the best.

Shinobi on PS2 would be an excellent contender if not for the lackluster (even at the time) technical presentation. You can feel the devs became more confident with the PS2 hardware as the game goes on, the later stages have clearly better design, textures and effects than the first ones.

Still, it has a incredibly interesting combat system and a more platform-centric approach to combat.
To give you an idea of the gameplay: your sword depletes your life constantly, when you're not killing enemies. When you do, however, the sword becomes stronger and stronger to the point of one-shotting every enemy you touch (with a cool goemon-like freeze animation). The skill is to keep the killing streak alive even during boss fights, to be able to one-shot them too.
I think it's even more difficult than Ninja Gaiden, much less polished, but more interesting at times.

I still have to play Nightshade, though.

If you can, Xbox/X360/XOne (with backwards compatibility) is the way to go :messenger_winking:

Hopefully they do a multi-platform for that one.

Meh, keep the Nioh games coming Mr. Yasuda.

I've never seen anyone respond to Ninja Gaiden with "meh" haha. Ninja Gaiden Black and 2 are some of the greatest action games of all time, imo (maybe even the greatest ever) ...
We don't talk about 3. We never talk about 3 haha

I challenge any newjack who thinks Dark Souls, Bloodborne or Nioh are the pinnacle of "HARD GAMES 1337 BRAH" to play Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Ninja by the way.
That game will curbstomp your ass while laughing at your broken corpse XD

I am currently playing ninja gaiden sigma plus on vita. I would say it's the single best action game I have ever played, personally.

I am not much of an expert on genere, but I am hooked. I didn't particularly enjoyed beyonetta, devil may cry 3 etc.

I would rate combat above dark/demons souls, though not a fair comparison.

Needs Itagaki.

This. Dead or Alive & Ninja Gaiden clearly show they're suffering under the new leadership and they're shells of the games they use to be, Ninja Gaiden especially considering I think I died once the entire time I played 3.

Be careful with what you wish for... Dead or Alive is the Koei standard for multi-platform games, in other words: microtransactions galore...

Koei without a publisher behind might make a Ninja Gaiden inspired by Dead Space 3...Koei is the EA of Japan.

Just started Nioh 2. The opening cutscene had a MAJOR bit of new Ninja Gaiden lore for those who remember what all the famous blades look like.

I love that Nioh and Ninja Gaiden are connected.

Then go back to Ninja Gaiden already. And making multiplatform games is the way to go in the current century.

Pretty sure they're easter eggs and not in the same universe. I was reading about this a month ago.
I think Nioh is a NG prequel. It may have started as a Hayabusa boss Easter egg in part 1. But it's pretty clearly connected now with the Nioh 2 opening cutscene.

Microsoft needs Japanese exclusives... Ninja Gaiden was rebooted as a beloved Xbox exclusive game that was a technical marvel...

if Microsoft isn't trying to get this done they will give away a big opportunity here.

Ninja Gaiden soft-reboot (the story is too weird and noone remembers it these days so start fresh)

It would be a mistake to not try to get this as an exclusive IMO

Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2 are great. the PS3 ports had new content but were dumbed down a bit (Sigma 2 most likely for performance reasons)

both Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2 are backwards compatible on Xbox One and they run better than ever on it, especially on One X where the first one runs at 1920p and the second one at 1755p... also the framerate in 2 is now basically perfect on One X while it had substantial slowdowns on 360.

stay the hell away from Ninja Gaiden 3 tho... even their try to fix it with Razor's Edge still sucks
