This information comes from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, speaking during the company’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing…

Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions continue to rise, and now include over 26 million paid members. Membership numbers have grown alongside hardware sales at a steady pace, with spikes prompted by hit games that support online play. Our consumer base has quickly adopted this service in the two years since it launched. Going forward, we want to further contribute to the consumer satisfaction while enduring the long-term vitality of our platform by releasing attractive titles and enriching the Nintendo Switch Online service.

I only subscribe because of Mario Maker 2. Wish I didn't have to, but the game is pretty much nothing without it. It's all right, though.

It's so cheap for the year and has been worth it for Tetris 99 and Mario Kart 8 online alone for me.

I've also had the chance to play SMB1-3 for the first time as I never played those. Now gonna make my way through DKC1&2 and then I've got Super Mario World 1&2 to get through as well.

Oh and Super Mario 35 is coming in a few days time as well.

They should make it much easier to voice chat with friends online though.
