Holy shit, how did I not notice Metal Slug 3 is available on the Switch.

Are there any impressions anywhere from people who've bought it?

I just tried it an hour ago, it has horrible audio lag and I still can't believe nobody else is complaining about it.

Why do I have to make a Japanese account at all? Why don't these just show up in the eshop of all English, French, Spanish whatever supported language regions??...

In a perfect world this would be the case. It is a little cumbersome but not really a big deal to create user accounts for other regions.

I think it is great that the Switch is just region free period.

Wouldn't it be confusing if there was 5 or 6 icons of the same game for every game when you go to the eShop (for every region)? I mean I guess they could make it so it shows up once with all the prices stacked under each other from different regions and you just select the price you wish to pay for, but somehow I doubt that would fly.

That witch on the motorcycle game has an English version? o_O

I would have loved to manage a thread like this like I did back in the day. Oh well.

Shmups on the Switch would be awesome, especially Cave ones. Give me a Progear port.

Could be worse asking Degica if they're interested I guess, they've published a lot of JP games on Steam, including most of Cave, and made Umihara Kawase come back from its previous publisher death as well.

Thanks for the update! :)

Nintendo is killing it with these multi language releases. It's so awesome that I can buy a retail copy of Mario Kart here in Japan and play it in English or even Dutch if I want to. Did the same with Zelda and it even allowed me to claim Nintendo points on my EU account.

Well, you can always claim the points on the Japanese account you've used to purchase the games (unless you just changed the address on the original EU account)

Thanks for posting an update!

I really hope Nintendo sticks with this.

Really looking forward to what they have to show during E3.

Thanks for commenting.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is killing with 9-language support (the rest of Nintendo games only come with 7-8).

I know :). But just the fact that I can claim My Nintendo points of a Japanese retail game on a European account blows my mind.

As a student only temporarily living abroad in Japan, the Switch is a godsend. If I ever get a PS4, I would need to import games from EU or US to play them in English, or buy PSN cards and buy it digitally. Meanwhile, my Japanese copies of 1-2-Switch and Zelda can be played in any language I desire.

It's funny how Nintendo went from being the most stubborn and backwards possible company ever regarding region free policy, to raising the bar way above whatever Sony (not sure about Microsoft) is doing now.

Holy crap I'm really considering importing the Japanese Mario Kart just for the novelty. Had MK8 on WiiU for a while so I don't necessarily need it on launch day.

Not a big deal, of course, but the prospect of having a Japanese Mario Kart box and cartridge is kind of exciting. I wonder if they'll do the same thing for Odyssey?

Splatoon Testfire available to download in the Jpn eshop.

I just tried to start but it said the service does not start yet.

I use my NA account and the menu text is in English.

I imagine they will do this for all 1st party game (and many 3rd party ones; Disgaea is one of the exceptions).

Thanks for the headsup. Still a long wait until the 24th!

Splatoon 2 surprises me as the testfire was all languages and they are doing a worldwide release.

Street Fighter II would surprise me as it is not going to be a big game or hard to translate, bit since it's Capcom, who is already charging $40 for it, I'm not surprised at all.

Capcom doesn't strike me as the company that sees or cares what other companies do. They play by their own drum for better or (usually) worse.

Picked up an interesting tidbit in the Giant Bomb quick look for Puyo Puyo Tetris. After redeeming the code for the NA copy of the game it still did not show up as "purchased" in the JP eshop on his console. I believe this is the first game to be this way?

Someone in the OT said they are two different titles. Japanese title is Puyo Puyo Tetris S while the NA one is just Puyo Puyo Tetris. They are treated as separate skus by the eshop.

I suppose a multilingual patch isn't in the cards then

My guess is, even though developers have the option of just releasing one version of a game and just adding updates like more language support etc.

There would still be multiple versions of games from particular publishers for reasons.

I think that, there are multiple versions of Puyo Puyo Tetris due to the licensing arrangement with Tetris. Remember this game had been out in Japan for years but never released in the west due to Ubisoft having the Tetris license which prevented PPT's release in the west.

So if Puyo Puyo Tetris got pulled off the eShop again like what happened to other Tetris games on the 3DS eShop due to Ubisoft. Then it won't affect the Japanese version.

This makes sense compared to the other idea I thought which was multiple versions of games due to other types of licensing or royalties due to voice actors or music.

A shame that the physical Spelunker isn't in English, would've bought this in an instant.

Yeah, it is quite surprising. It is the first Nintendo game with no multilingual support. Maybe they want to separate the regions for online play?

Great thread!
Also would it be possible to add a mark or something to see which games are exclusive to the Japanese eShop?

Thanks for the support. Tracking exclusivity might be a bit time-consuming. Some titles get released in Japan first and vice versa. I guess if the game is only in Japanese, it is only releasing in Japan for now (with some exceptions).

Thanks for the update, the source page still hasn't changed but I will update the title nonetheless.

Seems to be. Disgaea 5 Complete will also be a different title (and, from the looks of it, Ultra SFII and even Splatoon 2)

I have the Japanese copy and it comes up with the English logo as Disgaea 5 Complete.

Japanese Puyo Puyo Tetris has the Japanese logo even when set to English.

So I think that one could go either way (weather is is seen as "Purchased")

The US release of Disgaea will have a different language structure with the languages and subtitles being selectable in-game from the options so it will probably be treated as a different release. Just a guess, though.
