I love the way we/they take numbers and manipulate them in a way that all console manufacturers can claim number one in something.
Nintendo is a beast especially when it comes to handhelds. I am glad the hybrid model is working and I hope they stick with it.
Yes but all companies and fans do it. Fastest selling. Most dollars. Whatever gets them to a number one. It is fun and I don't mind a positive spin. You mean like how they had to combine consoles and handhelds to get Nintendo those accolades? If you take out the handhelds, Sony has far outsold Nintendo in actual game consoles.
Oh god I am conversing with a crazy person, very mature of you to suggest I was immature though.Ladies and gentlemen a immature Nintendo warrior with mental disorder.
Congratulations to Nintendo, they can pass 140 milion unit.
And even that's not true for much longer with Steamdeck coming. You mean the console/portable hybrid sector.![]()

Same here, had the original NES and can't believe it's that long ago.since 1983*
Me, realizing the NES came out in 83 and I am old.

Getting back into the power race is just not feasible for Nintendo, it's roughly 180 million consoles per generation with already two major players. at best Nintendo could hope for 60-70 million console sales and the amount of money required to even secure this would be immense, even more when you consider the links both there players have with the major western development studios. Take the Wii U and 3DS generation which seemed a little below par for Nintendo, they still managed to shift around 90 million consoles or so, so much better for them in their own marketplace. That's considerand handhelds and all, right?
Anyway, good for them. I just wish they went back to competitive performance consoles. High tech stuff. Not mobile.![]()
They are doing it still by combining Switch sales with Switch Lite sales like they are one in the same. You mean like how they had to combine consoles and handhelds to get Nintendo those accolades? If you take out the handhelds, Sony has far outsold Nintendo in actual game consoles.
All numbers are expectedly down YoY, but Nintendol is still the profit king, with an operating profit of $1.1b
And the award for the most backhanded compliment of the day goes too......Well, outdated hardware and recycled franchises that sell in the tens of millions, with ultra modest budgets, does that for you. Still, genius moves, business wise.
This thread is filled with these kind of comments, Sony fanboys are still the saddest fucks in the gaming industry at least they win at that. And the award for the most backhanded comment of the day goes too......![]()
Constant goalpost moving on here, just wait until the console continues to sell and does not fall of cliff as some are hoping, er I mean suggesting. Why shouldn't handhelds be accounted for in a ranking of "most consoles sold"? Aren't they consoles anymore?
It's quite funny seeing Sony fanboys trying to downplay this
To be honest nothing much surprised me in these threads anymore, you should see the comment sections on Nintendolife , they are priceless too. This thread is filled with these kind of comments, Sony fanboys are still the saddest fucks in the gaming industry at least they win at that.

Sony have been immense in the Video game arena without a doubt, even more impressive is they have had to go toe to toe with Microsoft, who have a lot more money and can afford to run their console business at a loss.Impressive no doubt about it, but Sony's numbers are more impressive to me. Being only 230mil behind with 2 less generations, and a whole load less consoles.
Just my opinion.
Sony sold close to 80% more consoles than a paramount Forefather of Video Gaming Nintendo in the same time frame or 27% since their respective launches. All that without the help of brainwashed Grandpas or a fat plumber chasing the same woman for 40 years!
Nobody cares how you try to change the numbers to fit your narrative, Nintendo sold more consoles end of discussion.
My lemonade stand outsold the wiiuThe beast keeps delivering. Fun fact: Switch already outsold 3DS and WiiU combined.
Yeah i'm waiting for the next monster hunter to buy a PS5 so i can wait a while. To be honest nothing much surprised me in these threads anymore, you should see the comment sections on Nintendolife , they are priceless too.
On a related not I am still trying to get hold of PS5 and a Series X, but will not pay a penny over retail on principle, can wait though.

Wonder why they don't bring in more titles like Manhunt to the mix.As reported in the Nintendo’s latest Financial Report as June 2021 Nintendo have sold in total 800.84 million consoles worldwide since 1983*.
Nintendo is, by a wide margin, the console manufacturer which has sold the most consoles in the World.
Total number of videogame consoles sold by manufacturer as June 2021 (only console makers which have sold at least 30 million units):

A curiosity:
As March 1995 (PS1 was launched in December 1994 in Japan) NES + GB + SNES had sold in total 141.49 million units therefore since the introduction of the PlayStation brand of consoles Nintendo has sold around 95 million consoles more than what Sony did in the same timeframe.
* Note:
I considered only the stand alone consoles with interchangeable software (no Color TV Game, no Game & Watch, no Nintendo plug & play retro consoles, no PlayStation Classic, no PocketStation, no add-ons in general).

What did you expect? GAF is like 70% Sony. 20% Nintendo and 10% Xbox when it comes to consoles. When i saw this topic i instantly knew we will some have donwplaying and Sony praising on page 1. You have to accept this if you are here.
30.75 millions according to Sega.MegaDrive sold much more than 30 millions.
genesis/md is a mess to determine how many were sold, you'll notice they don't cite anything because of how much a mess it is. plus there were numerous official licensed models by jvc, samsung, tec toy, majesco, so many other things, trash record keeping by sega (shocking I know)strange, i see here 30.75 m

Ok. So let's not discount phones, they play millions of games are have more people gaming on them than all "consoles" and PC combined...you dont know what you're talking about. Apples and oranges my friend. They are all fruit but not the same.A games console is just a computer system specifically designed for playing video games. Hell, with the move towards being "media platforms" modern home consoles are further from the definition than the portable gaming systems you're trying to discount.

Kind of disingenuous to use "console" when that figure clearly includes handheld gaming devices like DS, 3DS, GBA etc., IMO.
TBH I kinda don't care about these milestones in and of themselves, always been more interested in the mix of market realities, circumstantial factors, business strategies etc. as well as social feedback from the customer side of the market itself that lead to the results.
Not like any of these sales are lining my own bank account (although I guess that would be nice).
Not a single fuck is given about "versus" or "different market, target audience, generations" when it comes to the definition of what a console is...??
Oh, because this is new now? How old are you, 15?
Never in the history of console gaming it's been mixed up. It's never been GB, Game Gear, or whatever versus Megradrive, Saturn, Psone, it's never been GBA versus PS2 or NDS versus PS3...etc etc..
Handhelds are a different market, different target audience, different generations of their own. Very different formats. It's not the same format as a HOME console. You want to match $50 Gameboys going up against $200 PlayStations...gimme a break.
What next, mobile phones are consoles too? So I guess Apple and Samsung are the kings of consoles. Lmao
