Next-gen Racing Graphics Face-off | (Next-gen means current-gen)

GT Sport even on the base 1,8tf PS4 has some impressive graphic features... but at the same time some elements if its graphics are really dissapointing...

I'm really curious and can't wait to see how it's going to look in the GT7 with raytracing...

Never understood the hard on for racing games graphics. Every game is basically the same with a few additional features from the others. If a screenshot from 10 years ago was shown against one from today, the difference would be minimal. On a PC of course.

Richard Burns Rally (2004 game!), first laserscanned track

Insane.

They did an INCREDIBLE job on PS2, it look alright even today.

It's a shame that most racing games today look half decent based on the hardware they run on.

Someone has posted Ride 4 earlier.. that's how Ride 1 should have looked like on PS4 many years ago.
All the rally games don't look good at all.

Forza and Assetto are alright.
GT as usual does something very good, something else very poorly.

Then we have Driveclub, the best looking racing games that came out in 2014.

And what about next-gen?
Racing games have barely been shown (usually they are among the first title to showcase the power of the new hardware) and they don't look very good.

From cockpit point of view all that dynamic lighting and shadows in fh4 looks that good compare to any other todays racing. And fh5 is comint with fm8 , we still dony have any next gen racing out there. Sad that waiting is so long.

Shame this thread has taken a snooze.

The lighting system by PD it's mindblowing, the most natural among not only racing games but in general

Are you saying it looks better than ray traced games?
GT and basically any other game are still looking obviously rendered. You can have moments where you think "Damn, that looks good" but never "Damn, that almost looks real". For racing games, I'd say modded Assetto Corsa (if you're very selective with your content) is probably the first one that's starting to break that rendered, CGI or uncanny valley look and almost beginning to look like a real life TV broadcast. We've still got a long way to go until we'll be fooled by rendered gameplay, a few more years yet.

Due to a bug I'm stuck on an older mod patch which borks the motion blur when taking a screenshot, but I've still been snapshotting away in AC recently, obsessing over my love of 90's BTCC:

Yes because AC isn't build with ray traced lighting, don't get me wrong it looks good but its still not perfect and isn't the same as normal ray traced lighting that you would get if the lighting was build around ray tracing. Also PD ray traced the lighting in GTS to see how it would look and tried to replicate the same lighting with standard lighting model wich they got damn close. Plus the PBR and shaders in GTS are levels above AC shader and PBR that helps also to get that real life look. I mean look at those, they look much more like real life than your picture's (No scapes, using photomode to show the lighting, shaders,... obv.) If there is 1 thing you can't deny than thats GTS lighting, they are really 1 of the best if not the best.

Maybe it's a matter of taste, but I don't agree. I'm not specifically on about the lighting, but how the image comes together as a whole - taking into account the colours, saturation, contrasts, etc. Your GT photos still give me that gamey vibe.

Like I said though, give it a few more years of hardware and software trickery and I reckon we will just about be there.

my man you just disproved yourself, look at his AC image it has a piss filter on it compared to your image of a real race and hardly any detail. And the tod in my Laferrari shot is completely different than the image you posted. And the race images are in overcast weather with no shadows. Its much easier to get that real look in a overcast setting than in a sunny day. And even then GTS looks closer to the real thing, here literally the same scene and lighting condition

And look even Forza motosport 5 (launch game on a 1.3tf console) looks real in overcast weather

AC looks a lot more realistic than GT Sport in every way (graphics with CSP+Filter, driving, sound, etc), "scapes" aren't a proof; I have both.
