Community Game Dev Naughty Dog is the most critically acclaimed studio of all-time, dominating a decade, releasing 3 straight concensus GOTY, w/ 4 out of their last 5!

Greatness Awaits?

A studio so progressive they forced a woman out of her job.

A studio so wonderful to work for that 70% of its staff quit during development of TLOU2.

A studio co-president so mature that he makes passive aggressive tweets on Twitter that rile up the fandom against him.

Make no mistake, TLOU2 was the tipping point for ND. They are in decline and the sales of their next game will show it.

They pissed off their fans, and they will not return.

You are no where near right. If the theory of parallel universes in an infinite multiverse is true, then your statement has some chance of being true in one of them.

But not this one.

Has to be the most overrated studio of all time. They are great at presentation. Graphics, tech, sound etc.

I’ve tried to get into their games since PS1. I always give them a chance and they usually disappoint me.

Crash Bandicoot: trash game. Let’s be real.

Jak and Daxter: technical achievement for PS2, but ultimately boring. I never finished the game.

Uncharted: there was nothing else to play at the start of PS3. Very mediocre gameplay, forgettable generic story. Horribe puzzles. Well, at least I finished this game.

UC2: Now this is their best game. A fun rollercoaster ride, just like the silliest action movies that we all like. Not much depth to it, but it was fun for what it was.

UC3: boring. I quit after a few hours. The shooting sections were not fun at all.

The Last of Us: I have started this stupid game THREE times because I so wanted to like it. I didn’t get far into it because it was so BORING. Maybe it gets better later? I dunno.

UC4: I thought it was ok. The second best after UC2. The story was forgettable. I think the shooting was a bit better than before. I finished the game but it felt a bit like a chore. A solid effort, but nowhere near my GOTY.

Now, for me to try Last of Us part 2 I should probably beat part 1 first. I don’t see it happening anytime soon. There’s something about these games that just irks me the wrong way. I always have to put in so much effort to play and enjoy them. That’s not how it should be. The games should be grabbing me!

Yeah, and everyone that isn't impressed by their output is a Nazi....

Not helpful.
Yep, discourse should stay on the topic

Dont know why people on this forum sometimes veer off so wildly into political activation on topics where it's not warranted

My favourite studio and the main reason (second reason is Santa Monica), I always will buy a Playstation.

overrated trash.

i did enjoy the first TLOU but generally Naughty Dog games are mediocre. the only good thing they really have going for them are visuals. gameplay is dull and story are not good at all. not just talking about TLOU2 but the Uncharted games have poor story too.

hopefully their next game does something new. unfortuantly as long as that Druckmann character is involved then i hold no hope.

They been rocking the industry since forever. I can’t wait for what comes next from them. The only games i did not play was the racing games. I don’t care for those. And i am all for mature themes on ND games, let other companies produce kiddie fun games.

Imo, critical acclaim is not an indicative of quality.

Their tech is very good but, imo, that's it. There are far better games out there.

Excited to see what they show next for the PS5 tho, it will look very good for sure.

I acknowledge they are critical darlings, but I see them as a studio in decline, in terms of producing games that are fun to play. They were at their peak with Uncharted 1-3 and TLoU 1. Uncharted 4 was a step back, due to the insertion of family drama. TLOU 2 is beloved by the critics but has had a ton of negative reaction from the fans, for reasons we don't need to review.

O like a lot their games, but UC4 was the worst of the series, and i didnt like TLUS2 as much as TLUS1 (not even close).

I love Uncharted 2 and TLUS.

I seem to recall Uncharted being heralded for its graphics, which when it was released pushed the PS3 far beyond what anyone had seen to that point on either PS3 or 360.

Retro Studios record is more impressive that NDs, but ok, whatever floats your "wanking Sony till I die" boat.

ND's last decent-to-good games were Uncharted 2 and TLOU imo. I honestly think they've lost their essence in the recent decade. I really don't see anything that makes them special. At the very least, they aren't like they once used to be. Not to mention they got a pretty sketchy past with their Crash bandicoot heritage anyway.

It was in their DNA. They're calling themselves "The New Dogs" for a reason.

Seriously? Its no wonder they seem to have lost some creative vigor then. Talk about besieging a studio, removing the talent, and riding on brand recognition. Then again they aren't the only AAA studio to display these traits.

They might as well rename the studio title from Naughty dog to Good dog because it might trigger some political lunatic out there.

No way Hose A.

Learn how to read:

Get it? 14 people, non leads. “OH MY GOD 70% OF THE STUDIO LEFT” 🤣

And who cares Amy left? Uncharted 4 and TLOU2 came out after. She’s responsible for Uncharted 1 and 3, easily the worst. And she hasn’t managed to ship a single game since. What a loss...

It's really sad that the game industry most acclaimed games are the ones that essentially try to imitate hollywood.

I'd rather have games that focus on being, well, games.

I do not think ND is overrated.

They have, however, committed to walking down a path that does not reconcile with the entertainment I want to consume.

It remains to be seen whether or not this will result in them going down the mountain or achieving new peaks, financially speaking of course.

The last time I enjoyed a Naughty Dog game, it had "Crash" in the title.
Now their games are of such cinematic quality, they have about the same amount of gameplay as an actual movie.
Not gonna lie, that's impressive.

Honestly I'm not great fan of their last games and I was their biggest fan in the PS3. I don't know, I feel too much auto complacency and less humbleness in their games. They seem more interested to consolidate their reputation as "leader "in the narrative driven games than interested to really pleasant the gamers or push the gameplay aspect of their games. I missed the past ND IMO.

Yeah and what’s that? Tetris?

They're good at what they do, but I got tired of it after Uncharted 2. I couldn't make it more than an hour into both Uncharted 3 and TLOU and haven't touched any of their games since. If I had to pick a studio that defined the last decade for me, It'd be From Software. No one else comes close.

The fact that this vote is disputed, despite anouther GOTY and the fact the person that made the vote the way it is, is now (joint) head of the company should be sending signals to everyone, should be telling.

Remember EPIC?
Remember Blizzard?
Remember Konami?

Every company had a peak before they hit the states they are on today, Naughty Dog has had its rise and it will also have its fall from the grace of the consumer. Only time will tell.

Congrats? I'm honestly not a fan of their games. I do think they create quality games but they just haven't been for me ever since Uncharted.

The Last of Us 2 does both, tells story through environment, through gameplay and through cinematics.

Bloodborne has zero character development. It has a lot of lore, that’s all.

If you don’t like the type of game TLOu2, that’s fine. You’re not forced to like it.

Gran turismo, Bloodborne, Nioh, Ratchet and Clank.

And sure, Tetris.

Nioh is straight up garbage in my book. And tell me how gran turismo is focused on being a game when it’s trying to simulate driving?

Your whole “focusing on being a game” is just cover to hate. The argument itself is pure nonsense.

Ironically you don't see non-SJW studios get "critically acclaimed" awards.

This is called collective wank

They were my favorite studio until lost legacy (shit was boring) and last of us 2. After what they did to Joel and this whole Abby shit, they fell into the meh side.
