No.... it's not cloud but it is kinda related.

I think the right way for Sony to dominate as a unified company is to sell PlayStation as a very powerful home console / server with a single subscription for a variety of in house content.

In that subscription, you would get the biggest music catalog in the world (Sony music owns almost all the most iconic music of the past 50 years) and could provide Sony films, TV and make a deal with Disney for them to be a part of the sub. Obviously Anime would be part of this too.

This would be along with your PSPlus subscription being a part of the general sub.

Your PlayStation would act as a server and you sync your phone to the console to access music, films, tv and perks for their mobile game offering.

Then you would still have your local gameplay and physical media options through the console and there would be no need for Sony to pay for servers / cloud services.

They could bring this even further and people could offer their consoles for usage by others through cloud, where the console owner gets a small % for allowing others to remotely use the compute power to access their account and play content without actually owning a console.

The overall aim of this is making PlayStation as a console absolutely essential for overall entertainment, keeping the best Anime, films, tv, games and music exclusive to people who own the console. Much like why people bought the PS2 for its DVD.

You want Sony to become your MTV? wut

No, it would be to make their next console not just for playing games but also like a server..... so that it eventually creates a distributed network that owners can allow others without the console access during downtime, instead of paying Microsoft or Amazon for servers.

Sony owns the biggest music, anime and console gaming companies in the world and one of the biggest film / TV companies...... make one sub for 20 dollars / euro for all of it.

Only allow gimped versions of the content on other platforms or keep the bets content for the PS platform version.

Phone access once synced to the PS server / console

The future is to not change anything you don't have to. Xbox tried to change everything before last gen and PlayStation kept doing what worked and it paid off heavily.

Even, if a new strategy works for MS, there is still a huge audience who wants gaming to be what it is currently. Both can exist, as well as Nintendo's own strategy.

Soon, Sony will have 5 of top 7 best selling home consoles (assuming we include Switch as a home console). There is no reason to mess with that formula any more than necessary.

Future of PlayStation as it stands right now will be another console after PS5 of some form, as the PS5 is doing very well for Sony. Console dedicated hardware only became more in demand during the pandemic and it’s not slowing down.

It would be a console.... but each console can be used as a server to access all Sony content. Anime, music, film, TV and gaming..... for a 20 euro / dollar sub.

Mobile phone needs to be synced to access.

No need to pay for servers or cloud anymore, just sell loads of consoles.

People who cannot afford or do not want to pay for console can pay to remotely use someones console compute power while it is not being used by owner.

Yeah, I love dedicated consoles.... hopefully it will stay like that.

If Game Pass needs 500 Million subs to be profitable, how many would this service need?

Better run it by Mr. Layden first.

I'm no match for big brain Layden! haha

We can't have AAA games anymore... oh nooos, they're costing too much (meanwhile PS makes more money than ever). LOL

Today some colleague of mine tried to impress me with his purchase of a PS5 but for me it's old news.

It's impressive how much performance they get out of 36 cores of the GPU..... and that you can get one for 400 dollars.

But they really need more exclusive and exciting content. It's been a bit boring since R&C and Guilty Gear dropped.

They also need to update the UI more and get that discord on there.

no thanks. just give me good games. thats all i want.

I'd be good with that, we need more exclusives and more 1st party studios.

But this idea is all about making PlayStation essential for all entertainment so it makes lots more people buy it like PS2 for the DVD.

Upload speeds (i.e. what you need to stream content) are really bad compared with download speeds. If playing with XCloud or Stadia is already laggy as it is at moments now, I can't imagine using a home cable to stream it across the internet

Sony films are some of the worst movies ever made.
Ghostbusters? Casino Royal to Spectre? 21 Jump Street? Once upon a Time in Hollywood? Django Unchained? Into the Spiderverse?

Spider-man 1&2, Tom Holland ones and the Venom films are decent too. Jumanji reboot and OG are good. Karate Kid, Zombieland, Bad Boys, Stand by Me, White Chicks, Superbad, Hotel Transylvania, Karate Kid.

Plus they make The Boys, Cobra Kai, Breaking bad, Better Call Saul and tons of the stuff on streaming services.

I think people underestimate how much good stuff they make.

Much better than Disney's very stale Marvel offerings and live action remakes of classics...except terrible.

Yeah this would be way down the road and people would be paired with console / servers close to them and tested before usage to see if suitable.
Talking about 3-4 console generations down the line.

Okay I now see that you were trolling.

Why you don't like any of those?

21 & 22 Jump Street are hilarious.

You don't like Tarantino? WTF?

Breaking bad? You don't like that?
21 Jump Street was fucking horrible. Naturally, I never watched 22.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was exceptionally mediocre. HIs good films are distributed by Miramax.

Breaking Bad is trash. It's also not a movie.

You listed the Ghostbusters remake dude. I don't even know why I'm responding to you after that.

EDIT: hell, you even chose to list Ghostbusters as your first example. idk why I'm even typing this as I legit think I'm being trolled rn.

The key is in the name isn’t it? PlayStation. Which movie is playing, which song is playing, which game are you playing. Play has no limits.

Send the check.

I am not going to dismiss you like the others because basically it's not a new idea.

Go to 24 minutes in.

I have fibre Internet via hyperoptic so I have 300meg up and down, I could rent out my series s for users around me in my flat for xcloud. I think software is going to be the key part of this and I don't trust Sony on it sadly. Microsoft with hyper-visor and free cloud saves and shit like that fills me with more confidence.

I was talking about the OG films, they own the rights to those.

You seem to have exceptionally bad taste in films and tv....... or else you just hate Sony. Which is totally possible....seems more like you are the troll.

I mean, what films do you like?

Oh wow, that's pretty awesome. I knew Spencer had some vision....

He may not be great at getting the games out but he definitely has some vision and ambition.

Its not the same but conceptually similar, when Sony did Folding@Home to lease out processing power from each individual console

Yeah, folding at home is conceptually very similar. For this use case, I am trying to run through the hypothetical here.

Would you need to have an OS that allows you to run/have the multiple instances of 1 game at the same time? Otherwise you would make the number of eligible 'servers' smaller if the cloud audience is playing the same game as the owner of the server.

Who under the age of 30 wants any of that though?

So you want the PlayStation brand to encompass all forms of media entertainment from games to music to original programming and films. Basically copy all the things that Microsoft/Xbox had envisioned for Xbox One back in 2013. Never thought this day would come...

You're right Spider-man is so unpopular.

Cobra Kai has nobody watching it and Breaking Bad was a flash in the pan.

Netlix, Disney and Amazon think it's worth hundreds of millions... they paid to have them on their services. People will watch anyway, they are already paying for the subs....
Bit like Gamepass that way.

Weren't you one of the dudes who made numerous cringy posts crying about Jim Ryan endlessly?

I legit can't tell if this is a troll post or not as your suggestions here are worse than anything Jim Ryan could possibly think up.
