UPDATE

Kimbo Slice has died ... TMZ Sports has confirmed. He was 42.

We broke the story, Slice was hospitalized early Monday near his home in Coral Springs, FL. He passed away a short time later.

The CEO of Bellator MMA confirmed the news ... saying, "We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family.'

"One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport."

"Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man. HIs loss leaves us all with extremely heavy hearts, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ferguson family and all of Kimbo's friends, fans and teammates."

Details surrounding Kimbo's death are unclear. We're working on it.

Kimbo -- real name Kevin Ferguson -- last fought at Bellator 149 back in February and defeated Dada 5000 -- but the victory was overturned when Slice tested positive for a banned steroid.

Back in 2003, Slice became an Internet sensation for his backyard fighting videos -- destroying several opponents in unsanctioned street fights. He later signed a deal to fight in the UFC.

Slice competed on "The Ultimate Fighter" in 2009 ... and while his MMA career never really blossomed, he was undefeated as a boxer, with a 7-0 record.

Slice also did some acting -- appearing in 2012's "The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption."

Story developing ...

Damn, I haven't heard of this guy in years.

I hope things turn out okay. I wonder what happened.

EDIT2: They pulled the tweet. May be alive still, hope so

I hope he recovers.

My father has a resemblance to him, I think I made a thread about it here so whenever Kimbo comes up in conversation I think of him.

heart failure at 42? Goddamn. Have to wonder if it was related to what he put his body through in his fighting/mma career. He always looked like he was going to keel over after fights.

Damn it sucks if he's dead. He was definitely a phenom in mma. Hopefully it's not related to drug usage.

I guess RIP?

Hopefully the reports that he's dead are wrong. His story is pretty inspirational and bad ass af. Street fighter turned pro. What a giant.

I still remember those old videos circulating in the hood a decade ago. Crazy dude. I would've never spoke around him without calculating the safest way to navigate around getting my face pounded in.

At the time, those videos made him look like the best fighter I ever saw.

Thanks for the memories of those lunch room discussions!

RIP.

Damn RIP, I guess steroids catch up with you eventually. Wonder how Arnold/Stallone have managed to avoid something like this...

Damn I remember his videos were pretty entertaining when they came out and it was neat to see him try his hand at real MMA, regardless of how good he actually was. Sad times :( they're backyard brawling in heaven tonight y'all

well it usually takes down people like pro wrestlers because of other heavy drugs they take alongside the steroids. plus the physical abuse to their bodies.

Steroid use is not abuse, really depends.
