MLB The Show 21 is having a technical test (closed beta) to test online and cross-platform play. Signups on Xbox are limited to the first 50,000. There's no cap for PS4/PS5. Signup today to start February 23.

If it's like past betas, there will be a private forum you will be given access to in order to provide feedback and submit bug reports. You will not be allowed to talk about the game in public forums so be aware.

Done. Thanks for the heads up!

If the Xbox version doesn’t have better textures and color accuracy (like it does on NBA2k) then you know Sony mailed it in for the Xbox version.

There are plenty (most) of third-party games that look and run better on PS5 compared to Series X.

But, so what, if Sony wants their game to be "best on" PS5? That's exactly what Bethesda and Microsoft says their strategy is for Bethesda games going forward.

All third party games look identical on both or share same graphics assets. Only difference you see are either in dynamic resolution scaling or frame rate in certain areas. Valhalla for example run identical in 4k mode but in Frame rate mode, dynamic scaler drops more resolution on SX from 1440p to 1200p. NBA 2k identical but has dips of 3 frame rate on SX if you play the game from certain camera angle. Hitman 3 identical assets but different resolution on both.

If MLB has higher quality assets and SX doesn't then it will be clear they gimped it. Different dynamic scaling is understandable but difference asset quality not as SX is more than capable of handling same quality assets if optimized properly.

It will be big red flag if SX version is gimped and yoy bet their image will be damaged in public media. Third party devs can get away with making gimped version for one platform but MS and Sony can't if they releasing their games on each other platforms

We don't really know their full strategy yet. Wait until after April and see what happens. This is all PR speak right now.

Not necessarily. This will be the first time many of these devs will be porting a game to Xbox. They are infinitely more familiar with the PlayStation dev environment. It is not completely illogical to assume that they could run into optimization problems, and the XSX version doesn't run as smoothly as the PS5 version and has to be "gimped" a little bit for smoother frame rates.

Not everything has to be related to intentional, ulterior, evil motives.
