Microsoft to halt sales of Xbox and all it's products in Russia

The only revolution will be us becoming the first country to officially legitimize software piracy. (Or maybe second? Not sure how China is w/r to that.)
Russia will endure. Always has, always will.
I genuinely appreciate diversity of thought, and different viewpoints. I'm shocked no one has tried to engage you on an intelligent level. I haven't done any deep dives on this, I'm just hoping we get enough Ukrainian refugees that I can get a cheap hot 21 year old Ukrainian nanny out of this. Can you tell us a little about why Russia is doing this? Why not leave Ukraine alone? Why now?

Treating the citizens of Russia this way is wrong. US companies need to fuck off and stay in their lane.

Funny how these same companies won't boycott China, given how China treats their own citizens and makes dissidents and undesirables disappear. China's much more vital to the US economy than Russia and these companies don't want to lose access to cheap labor, a billion+ people market and many of the things that China manufactures, so going hard on Russia is an easy victory for them to virtue signal that they are 'standing with Ukraine'. China is much more of a threat than Russia, but these companies had no problem making them filthy rich in order to save money on labor costs.

This is getting stupid. Why deprive individuals for the actions of the ones in charge?
To make it too costy for Putin to keep going. Essentially the same tactics he’s is using to get the Ukranian military to surrender, but without using weapons.

Ukranian people are currently losing the country and lives they used to have.

Russian people are currently losing the lives and country they used to have.

I hope all these virtue signalling companies keep the same energy for China when they invade Taiwan.

Also why didn’t these do the same when US invaded and caused havoc in the Middle East?
You very well know all these companies fully depend on china for manufacturing their products. West can't afford to sanction China. Everyone will watch taiwam invasion as blind Spectator.

Because protesting that hints at violence in a communist country is not meant with the same leniency as in a Democracy. Getting sent to a concentration camp or killed is much higher in the former.

Those rioters under Trump wouldn't have had a much worse fate if they tried that in Russia or China.

On the off chance you actually want a detailed analysis, here you go.

"Why Russia is doing this": It depends on how you define "this".
- If you mean "why is Russia trying to take control over Ukraine", then there's... like a dozen good reasons. Economic reasons mostly, some political, some ideological. At least one humanitarian. Most of them, however, have to do with the one thing the Russian government keeps telling the West that the West always says is stupid: the West has put too much pressure on Russia. Forget missiles and militaries for the moment, those functionally do not matter when it comes to Russia vs NATO, because nukes exist. Russia is not existentially threatened by NATO missiles, because even in the event that NATO launches missiles from extremely closely positioned sites, Russia will still be able to deliver a counter-strike that will be absolutely devastating to everyone. So the missiles that Putin alludes to in his speeches, those are a front. The actual problem, is the extent to which the West has been readying to deliver an economic and political blow to Russia, the extent to which the US can control NATO's so-called member states, and the extent to which it can control the public perception of Russia to suit its own needs. The practical outcome of this happening, would be a slow winding decline as Russia is gradually denied more and more of its economy base, and prevented from gaining any kind of power. There is only one solution to this - Russia needs to drop its reliance on the West, and assert a stronger position in the world.

Problem with that - Russia can't exactly just drop out of world trade. Internally, the people wouldn't support that kind of move, and the entire concept is too complex to be explainable to regular people. Because it'd mean a plummeting currency, denial of luxury goods, overall degradation of quality of life that a lot of the people got used to. So something different is needed, that people can rally around. Joke all you want, but even a "totalitarian regime" like we have here, wouldn't stand after directly making such an unpopular move.

Thankfully, the US is stupid and greedy. And they've decided that the Ukraine makes for an excellent new place d'arme to undermine Russia from, by cutting off their access to the Black Sea naval base at Sevastopol, and putting a new NATO or EU (or both) aligned country on the Russian border. The animosity between Ukrainians and "Moskali" is long-standing, and it wouldn't take much to organize the local extremists into putting the country onto a decidedly anti-russian course.
That's where this all began. Russia took action, preventing the loss of the Crimean peninsula and the Sevastopol naval base. The majority of the population being aligned with Russia made the transition relatively painless, but obviously neither the US or Ukraine liked that. Donetsk and Luhansk went into revolt as well, which Russia happily supported, and which US and Ukraine liked even less. Russia was gaining a foothold.

Fast forward eight years. The US has been stuffing the nation full of weapons and providing them with all kinds of expertise and connections to prepare for beating back the Russian 'occupation'. All attempts at peace were mocked viciously - even if Ukraine would have benefited from it, officially dumping occupied territories would have allowed it to fast-track into the EU or NATO since it wouldn't be having active hostilities anymore, but - well, the US didn't need peace in the region. It had weapons to sell, a NATO to strengthen, and a Russia to put in their place. For Russia, the people of DNR and LNR suffering under Ukrainian attacks, and the people of Crimea facing a rapidly approaching humanitarian crisis over lack of drinkable water, it's easy to rally people around a new goal. Ukraine, in the eyes of most of the public, has long been known to have Nazis among its military units. That notion has been carefully cultivated for eight years, likely blowing it far out of proportion - but it makes for an excellent, and painfully sore point for Russians, that is very easy to latch onto. Combined with efforts to help the besieged people's republics, it creates an excellent internal pretext for plunging Russia into the world of pain it has to go through to come out stronger on the other side. The sanctions, when they inevitably come, work against the West then - as they're treated as something that's being done to the Russian people from beyond the border, directing the people's ire more at the nations doing the sanctioning - and their perceived (and probably actual) US manipulators, than at the Russian government, which is "only doing what it must".

Why now?: Contrary to popular, apparently, belief, Russia isn't blind. Everyone keeps talking of Russian spies and saboteurs whenever something happens, but somehow they don't exist when it comes to keeping tabs on neighboring countries. This is a rumor, since it comes from what can well be our propaganda: Apparently, a military op was being planned in Ukraine for later in March, to take back DNR and LNR. If this is true, and were allowed to happen, it would have put Russia into a reactionary position. With the US controlling the public perception of events, and having leverage over most of Europe, Russia would have no way to justify preparing a defensive force to protect the regions, so it was either blatantly assemble an army on the border (behind a paper-thin veneer of exercises and maneuvers, which did actually occur), or lose the only possible pretext for moving forces into Ukraine territory and disrupt US plans to cripple Russia.

Bonus round: Why is Russia even attacking the whole of Ukraine, rather than just staying in the regions?: That would be because Ukraine is stuffed full of American weapons and combat-trained personnel, so merely reinforcing the border of DNR and LNR would still result in a war - just a disadvantageous one, where the enemy is free to fire indiscriminately into cities and can bring air support with impunity. Striking at as many military infrastructure targets as possible, reduces the Ukrainian army's ability to counterattack.

But why is Russia firing on all those cities, dropping bombs on civilians? Why are they leaving behind their tanks and MLRS batteries? Why are their troops so poorly equipped and useless?: Heh. Are they? Ukraine is backed by the US. The US has unmatched control over public perception of events. They control information across the whole world, and can not only pick and choose what to show, but can easily misdirect and deceive anyone in the West, because nobody there can seriously tell one eastern-european city from another, and both sides are using the same damn equipment.
Mind, I'm not saying all of what you're shown is a lie. A lot of what we're being told by our media and military is lies too. We do take casualties, we do have equipment break down on us, and it's almost guaranteed that at least some of the shells and missiles we fire land where they weren't supposed to. But do keep in mind, that almost the entire point of this whole operation, from the perspective of the US, is to discredit and depower Russia. And thinking that they wouldn't lie out their ass when they can absolutely get away with it, is at the very least monumentally naive.

Russia or China.
neither are communism. especially china is essentially hyper state capitalism.
sure, communism definitely left its mark in russia and china, but both countries are capitalistic. as for the parties over there with communism in the title, those are just names and nothing else. otherwise the korean social democratic party would be a poster child for democracy. it isn't.

point is though, russians can only overthrow their government if they believe in it. they need to be motivated in taking action, be all for it and be strong. its not impossible.

Coz u wanna do everything possible to stop putin, and since nato is defensive treaty u cant attack him/russia so isolating them is next best thing.
Thats how communism actuallly fell, not coz of western army but coz eastern economy got so badly fucked in the ass ppl there(and i say it from experience, since my country- poland was under communism till year 89, but actually last of 400k russian soldiers left my country only in 93) got enough.

China has a growing middle class. It's always better to be an exporter than an importer.

Our economy would implode before we had the manufacturing ability to produce what we need. Look at all the medical supplies we were reliant on importing from China in the last two years.

Exacly, why would they want to stop exports, that would only hurt them.

Good, so it already started hurting a big, hopefully it hurts more soon, no mercy for putin or his murderers, those 150k soldiers who invaded ukraine arent all innocent sheeps, and putin alone wouldnt be able to rule 150m ppl country, that russia is, west gotta hurt russia where it hurts most without actually suffering much on its own, all kinds of sanctions/cold war is perfect for this, as was proven back in the 80s ^^

You're only proving my point here. To you, anything that would even suggest US involvement at the core of these events is heresy. Which is exactly as intended. To you, Russia is evil, Ukraine is blameless and besieged, and US is only helping achieve peace. And there's nothing I can say to change that. This is the exact reason why Russia doesn't bother with publicly countering anything, too. Truth will, as always, be determined by the victor. The only thing that matters is that Russia stays cohesive on this matter, and the added isolation only plays into our hands. So thanks. :)

Not being about to get an Xbox is one thing, but to not have access to Microsoft business apps!? That's going to hurt a lot of businesses.

Not being able to get an Xbox is a problem everywhere, but hurting business in Russia is NOT a bad move to tighten the screws to Putin.

Thats what most of russians ppl mindset guys, as u saw he himself typed all those lies, thats what they think, so dont feel sorry for common russian ppl about sanctions, they are ok with invading Ukranians, those ppl whos language (all 3, bellarus, russian and ukrainian) are closest to eachother, many their families got parts in both countries, yet when push comes to shove huge number of russians always decides to stand with putler, so with evil, and abandon any kind of truth/good.
We in poland love russian ppl but knew very well for a very long time what putin really wanted, and that currently russians got so deeply indoctrinated they cant even think logically anymore.

Again, that guy is GAF member so u can assume he has basically unlimited acces to internet and his english is at least communicative/semi decent so if he had any bit of human decency and showed any goodwill he could easily get to the unbiased uncensored info, yet decided even here to blame Ukranians that fucking hitler of our times- towarish putin- decided to bomb/invade/kill them, all of them, even innocent civilians including seniors, women and children.

BTW they cant even call it war now, they only can say its military special operation ^^

No one cares?? It's one of the biggest talking points in the country right now and in Washington.

Of course, US should stop buying Russian oil ASAP, and I believe they will.

The people in this thread bending over backwards to defend Putin but vilify America and MS are fucking astounding to me, and the majority of them seem to be American themselves.

The lot of you just seem to be experts on sanctions and world governance all of a sudden? The only person fucking the Russians are the Russian government themselves. Putin is illegally invading Ukraine and slaughtering civilians, killing children and everything in between.

Say what you fucking want about the west, the media or whatever corrupt politicians you want, but you a FREE to protest, criticise, shame and wear a damn tinfoil hat and make conspiracies about lizard shape shifting overlords, flat earths and jet fuel melting steel. You will NEVER be invaded by a mad man like Putin thanks to the nations you live in be it the US, UK or any NATO country, you will beaver have to fear bullshit like that.

Putin is a beady eyed cunt, and his people will suffer because of him, not MS/NATO or America. If they choose to bolster him up in the face of the atrocities he is committing then so be it. Fucking using the west as an excuse for his own actions is pathetic. Most of you would lick his boots given the choice by the looks of it.

Comparing it to Syria, Middle East etc? Some of you are just fucked in the head honestly.

To respond to that long post full of bullshit.

Humanitairian reasons? Has anyone seen any video of Ukrainians cheering on the russians coming to 'save' them? Nope, they all hate them.

Scared of the us influencing Nato members to make Russia look bad? Guess what happened after your invasion. More countries than ever before spit on Russia. Only countries like north korea and syria are behind that dictatorship, should say something no? Even China is being neutral because of how a cunt putin is. Then you know he fucked up.

No, putin invaded because hes power hungry and now you and your fellow 'believers' will pay the price.

Instead of posting that long post I would stand in line at the atm, because the value of your money is going down by the day and not before long before putin seizes your money because your country is going bankrupt and has to whore itself out to China fullstop as last resort.

Im astounded that someone that isnt a complete retard still believes what Putin says, only weak minds can be influenced like that. Maybe he should threaten nukes again... oh right that failed and the west called out his bluff. now your country men are being slaughtered by western weapons. God bless saint javelin.

Because this pressures the ones in charge to stop their bullshit or face a revolt from the people they’re supposed to serve.

Putin is a dictator and the only way he gets overthrown is with a revolt against him by the public. Choking the entire country of outside goods and services is a legit great way to do that.

Great move and I hope Sony and Nintendo and Valve etc all follow.

I'm not saying all of what you're shown is a lie.

Dude thank you for taking the time to write all that. I read it all and did some light googling. I can only disagree with this. Every single piece of information the news organizations (left, right and center) feed us here is manipulated, obfuscated, invented or flat out lying, and it's been that way A LOT longer than even I want to admit. There is NO truth in the media.

I never understood why, after the cold war, we've put all out eggs into the baskets of china and india. Eastern Europe deserves to be on the same economical footing as the west. We need to come together and figure this out. And I hope you don't see the west as enemies. No more brother wars.

By this rate, with all entertainment companies pulling out, Russians will only be able to play tick tack toe.
Russia PC Country so it's doesn't matter if Xbox or PS is gone also if streaming services stopped there, then Aaaarrrrgh to high seas Way will explode there.

So stopping selling games/hardware and entertainment is stupid.

also it would be interesting if Valve follow this or nah. if they did that they will lose half of Dota 2 player base :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

Sanctions don’t do anything. It’s a hard pill to swallow given that sanctions are constantly touted as the “peaceful” alternative to martial solutions. But sanctions have literally never gotten meaningful results. Sanctions and embargoes on Cuba,Iran, and North Korea have done literally nothing but punish citizens and give the US the “right” to attack and seize legal material in international waters.
100%.

Sanctions:
- Used as propaganda against the country applying the sanctions (country's nationalism grows)
- Can cause huge humanitarian crises (Iraq where 1.5 mil, primarily children died)
- Economies become self-sustaining as they learn ways to "plug in the holes" (Cuba & Iran are good examples)

There are if you look beyond the Western media. Of course, you can't actually look beyond the Western media. You're literally not allowed to.

Also I'm pretty sure intentionally cutting off water supply to a region is some kind of human rights violation. But you probably don't know anything about that either.

he could easily get to the unbiased uncensored info
There is no such thing on the Western media. Not when it comes to Russia. There is none in our media either, especially when it comes to the West.
Did you believe that thing about the valiant defenders of Snake Island too? Because it was quite amusing here when they saw their glorious leader posthumously awarding them.

This is getting stupid. Why deprive individuals for the actions of the ones in charge?

Can't be a serious question. A country shouldn't benefit from things that come from the rest of the world's nations who are opposed to the war crimes being committed by Putin and Russia's government. There has to be consequences if there is any hopes of getting it all to stop. That's the whole point. Getting them to stop. And it won't take this one thing alone, but a collection of things that change the Russian people's way of life. So I fully support this decision. Deprive the people of Russia every luxury or piece of entertainment that we can to inflict maximum suffering and discomfort on the people in hopes of convincing their dictator to change course.

We have nothing against the people of Russia, but everything against their dictator leader and government.

Our government prevents us from seeing what you peddle as "the truth". (Poorly, at that.) Your government prevents anyone else's truth from even existing, as they have absolute power to take it down. Not sure how it's even a contest at that point.

I am not sure any of us (in USA) really knows what is going on over there, filtered thru the big gov / big media lens. I do know that lots of politicians have had a hardon to get into war with Russia for some time.

Strategists (from both sides) have warned since the nineties that NATO expansion would provoke Russia. Which is exactly what happened.

No clear “good guy” here yet, just a bunch of bad actors. Sanctions on Russia will just play into Putin’s hands (like others have pointed out). We should just fuck off and let them sort it out.

To make it too costy for Putin to keep going. Essentially the same tactics he’s is using to get the Ukranian military to surrender, but without using weapons.

Ukranian people are currently losing the country and lives they used to have.

Russian people are currently losing the lives and country they used to have.
It's more than this. Russians don't live isolated like it happens in North Korea. They know the world outside of their own country and travel everywhere for the past 30 years.

These measures will eventually backfire on Putin no matter how much he tries to stop his own people. No one wants this. His own people are against this war. They have already shown that even risking their lives when the war started last week...

What's going to happen when all foreign companies leave and Russia stops being able to trade almost everything with other countries? How long can Putin handle his own people? Yes they live in fear for obvious reasons, they are oppressed...but they won't be quiet forever. He's underestimating an entire population that will be hungry, unemployed and watching their own freedoms taken away from them.

Again, Russia isn't North Korea. Putin may even get Ukraine now but he won't be able to handle the ukrainian population....or his own in the long run.
Just my two cents. These things matter. These brands pulling out of Russia matters.

I quoted you because I agree with you and decided to add my point of view btw.

No clear “good guy” here yet, just a bunch of bad actors. Sanctions on Russia will just play into Putin’s hands (like others have pointed out). We should just fuck off and let them sort it out.
When you look at it from a purely factual and academic perspective, yeah everyone saw this coming a decade ago. It's absurd how little importance people put on diplomacy, treaties, and just talking things out. NATO is fkn retarded.

Not agreeing with the US government and invading a foreign country and killing civilians seems a little bit different, call me crazy.
So when the US invaded Iraq, should MS have stopped all sales and services to the US population? That's what we are talking about here.
I'm a green gaming rat, but I dont worship MS the company or Bill Gates. I think Bill is a scumbag and I think MS is being an opportunist here, just like they were with BLM etc. They virtue signal at every opportunity.
