Gee, I wonder if Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers will post a video on this. I think the Naughty Dog well is drying up.

A long haul flight from wherever you are.
They’re not sending their best.

They don't have to send anybody, these are always lone wolf crusaders far too down the totem pole to even be noticed among the other SJWs. When all the NPCs are virtue signalling you don't stand out, so they have to go somewhere that they'll get the attention they want. Maybe even a screencap that can go viral on Twitter, Imagine that!

Anyway, always always good for a laugh.

In that case then the company policy and employment contract rulebooks news to be rewritten.

Where do we draw the line here? This year we've had people cancelled and fired for infidelity in their private lives. Do you think that's fair game as well?

Slowly but surely we are devolving into a chaotic world where twitter (and social media at large) is being crowned judge, jury and executioner.

All it takes is someone to make a claim on social media against you and your whole life can be ruined in an instant. That's not ok.
I think my original post was pretty clear~ but I'll go ahead and address your points:

Infidelity can be a shit thing, and it's the company's business if they're offended by that or not, I personally haven't any interest in their private lives. If I were a boss and I learnt that one of my subordinates was cheating on his/her partner, my actions would depend on a whole ton of subjective, situational things, and it might involve insisting that the person in question take steps to solve their own problems in short order, but I don't think I'd fire him instantly.

How that information was brought to the attention of the company would be a matter of import - if it was heresay, I would certainly go to great lengths to get the full story from both the people involved and anyone else I can find, before trying to construct an unbiased understanding of what really happened. Perhaps with the help of professionals who are trained in such deductions. Will other companies do the same? Hard to tell, I'm not defending them here.

The Rashomon Effect deals with the 'notorious unreliability of eye witnesses', I dunno about others but I personally think I figured out that this is not an efficient way to solve a problem when I was, like, 6 years old.

Incidentally, has xBox actually fired anyone over this? Maybe they're just gonna do an internal censure or something?

Can I briefly say this? Please turn on your flame shield because I just wanna say this and leave it here: Adam Jones said he needs to take a bath when people call Tool 'metal'. I need to take a bath when people use the phrase "Cancel Culture" around me. It is so loaded with everything I find lazy and innuendo-fueled about bad arguments that I just can't even.

I’m actually curious about this view, because I find cancel culture to be a pretty obvious thing - at least within the entertainment industry. Now I’m of the mind that knowing the culture you would be an idiot to even joke about anything the way this guy did, publicly and online - past the year 2013 or 2014.
I guess where “cancel culture” becomes a real thing for me is when people get doxxed because an internet mob goes after them off of incomplete information. Or, when reasonable discussion about a highly sensitive subject is not allowed lest you be forever labeled as some kind of bigot. I kinda saw this happen with JK Rowling - who I mostly disagree with around the trans issue, and some of her evidence is faulty - but I think it’s actually really important to engage in those discussions and find teachable moments rather than just write someone off immediately as uninformed, or stupid or a bigot. That almost never helps and almost always pushes people in the exact opposite direction.
I’m assuming the reason it’s called cancel culture is due to when on social media people will literally start saying #cancel - this or that due to words that may have been said years and years ago during a different cultural landscape or if someone voices a controversial opinion online.
I see it as an overreaction, punitive instead of helpful.
And I am definitely on the left side of the spectrum, things like seeing James Gunn get thrown off Guardians 3 for old tweets he made in poor taste - that was a perfect example of the mindset of cancel culture to me. It’s reasonable to expect a reaction to words you say or whatever you put out there, but it’s unreasonable to expect to be labeled as a Nazi or a fascist or a racist or a misogynist or a homophobe or a pedo based off of things you say online - which is already a tricky medium to deal with due to the difficulty in detecting tone and stuff. It creates a weird social environment.
And tool is prog rock.

Wrong pal. The behavior we’re criticizing Resetera for is trying to get someone fired/ruin their life for disagreeing. Do you see us doing that here?

A little bit, yeah.

Major Nelson needs to be fired, this is a bunch of fucking bullshit.

Microsoft is a bunch of SJW cucks. Dont know why anyone supports them

Time to cancel Microsoft too.

I think the Resetera is extremely cult-like and very keen to censor any speech (sometimes even thought) that they have deemed off-limits.

That's lazy thinking and really an admission that your ideas are vulnerable to robust challenge, so challenge cannot be allowed.

That said, condemning Major Nelson and MS in general because of that one inoffensive comment is the same bullshit with a different stink.

Even if the game fridge is $399, MS banning people for internet opinions is something that could potentially undo them. I guess the same could be said for Sony. I feel, more and more, we're reaching a breaking point with this cancel culture stuff.

What bothers me the most is why the industry professionals participate on RE to begin with? That's the appeal compared to Neogaf?

They will eventually cancel too many people and the pendulum will swing. They have power now. but are they using it responsibly? We will see. Patience and popcorn. Unfortunately there is going to be collateral damage while we wait.

Many of them have bought in that mindset and/or want to be seen has partaking in that mindset and not associating with the cancelled sites because their corporations are buying into it more and more.
Some people also enjoy harsher moderation too (easier to go unchallenged and say what you feel as a public figure), etc...

Instead of better working conditions and more money and flexibility the answer by many corps is to jump onto popular social trends not because they necessary believe them but to use them a a major marketing, recruitment, and retention tools (even better if you get more easier to herd newcomers that are cheaper/cost less).

Remember when people said that it was narrow minded to see only one gaming company getting more and more woke, that it was a tip of the iceberg situation (not that it makes me that happy...)? Well...

That is the worst bit... polarisation and then a pendulum swing: where will the pendulum end when it swings back? This kind of extreme aggressive polarisation of language and culture means that you risk swinging between two bad extremes...

Pathetic. Hopefully Major Nelsons reply was just a token jesture reply, and nothing comes from this.
That site, and SJW's in general, are a real threat to a free society.

Let's be fair here though the gamecheat guy sounds like a total tit.

Making posts saying nigga nigga. Cmon now. What does he have to gain by doing that?

He does make decent points later on when he's arguing with the other 2 lads but he's a total troll otherwise.

If you're going to make opinions and statements that can hurt others, you should be willing to sacrifice your entertainment. Racists and people who push propaganda on their platform, even their personal accounts have no right to interact or be seen by children.

As for MS, I recall a while back Major Nelson organized a games giveaway and I think he said it was "courtesy of Microsoft" or something to that effect. I get the impression MS sees Resetera as significant for their PR, and higher ups are most probably oblivious of the reigning insanity.

His tweets are poor form for sure, especially the n-bombs. I haven’t seen anyone here defend the contents of the tweets, just oppose cancel culture generally and twitter/ResetEra mobs out for blood.

A whole lot of people have said really dumb things on twitter, especially if you’re willing to look back to years ago. It’s not a platform that lends itself to intelligent conversation.

You all know the shitstorm that would happen if they would keep these type of people working for them. For me personally, everyone have right to have their own opinions, regardless of what these are, issue is when you publish these in public forum (space) and at the same time you are affiliated with a specific company. Your opinions can have an impact on that company you are working for, based on your opinions you might become a liability to your company and then you will get cancelled.

This is the world we are living in, we might not like it, some of it is actually quite confusing (you have got free speech but there subjects that you should not talk about as some people might get offended), at the same time, i actually find it funny that some people are still surprised by this.

Firstly, this is the worst time for Microsoft to get involved in this shit. These incidents are like powder kegs and they have all their new console stuff coming out. Even if it is just paying lip service it is absolutely stupid.

This is why that site is the worst bunch of hypocrites in the world. Remember Jessica Price and her friend, at that time you could easily say no-one needs to lose their jobs for stupid shit said on twitter. Equally true is you are stupid enough to post stupid shit on public twitter, you have no-one to blame but yourself. It's also true that people can use stupid derogatory and racist language and not be actual racists, just do it for the lulz and reactions. Which are so easy to fish for these days.

Trust me, the pressure of all these sponsors and companies, the dangling of facebook and the constant bullshit on twitter, regulation is coming. Self governance won't be enough and when you have very strange relationships between corporations and 'independent' platforms - then it's a recipe for corruption and disaster. We will have an 'independent' regulation committee that reviews and decides what to publish and censor while shit like this goes on:

This is already happening at a macro level on the internet at places like Reddit, SA etc. if you look holistically, where no decision making or authority resides but social power exists.

People who discuss these issues either fall onto the side of 'wanting the win' for their side, or want to discuss the broader topic beyond the individual. However, if yuo try to do the latter, you get called racist and al the other shit because you're not supporting cancelling assholes. Which is a very naive and stunted way to look at this.

The mind virus has infected corporations like crazy. They're all terrified of getting labeled by twitter mobs because they know all business partners/sponsors are just as terrified and have to pull out of deals the second the McCarthyism label has been applied to any party.

Thank god I didn’t grow up in the social media age. You sometimes should stop and think if by going against what you think as the extreme, you went on the extreme opposite side. That’s a troubling mentality.

But people from Reee are mentally sick, pure haters and nazis. I would be ban there if i dared to say i'm a not believer and refuse others to tell me it' a thing. SJW hate non believers gays as they hate white people as they hate people sexually active and attractives... as they hate everything, everyone including themselves. There don't promote love, they choose to destroy in ISIS mode. They are not builders and have no society to promote (a pure one is a nazy one, to create a pure society people should be mass genocied).

Why would a capitalist firm give a fuck about what the new communists, the new fachists say? Just listen to Joan Baez, she said it all...but i guess singing love makes you the ennemi. 😒🤮🤔

Please MS ban me and get lost with your SJW hate. You would not make me a hater. I will always choose to love. You would have to kill me, delete me, earase me, to make me stop loving and not believing. ❤🌈🥳 And guess what, that's what they want.... you've been warned people.

Heaven forbid anyone should be anti-BLM.
Anti Black Lives Matter?
Doesn't that, literally, mean you are against black lives mattering?

Black lives matter only exists to make sure that all lives matter. Cops, institutions etc. All are run in a where black people are treated as though they are worthless. That black people can be killed, marginalized, without protection from the justice system. So BLM is a literal response to say to the system that black lives do matter. It honestly doesn't get any simpler.

And no the suffering of black americans isn't a thing that's up for discussion. You saw a video of a human being being murdered over the span of 8 minutes. If you turn a blind eye to this, you lack empathy and the racism is strong in you.

My post was probably written poorly and made people offended, I've changed it and apologize. I admit my post got stereotypical, which was in no way intended. It originally could be read as "all certain people does it", which never was the intention.

This is the largest cult in history, I think. It's absolutely focused. You can have an SJW vocabulary book (not very big) and sit and wait for them to hit every word. Each one the same. The names they call you are never accurate to the persons being attacked. Absolutely based on paranoia and a variety of mental illnesses. It's an army of trans, furry, soy. Like the denizens of Sesame Street after a nuclear war. A mong Gestapo, if you will.

DC Comics planted a gatekeeper at Kickstarter. The SJW Kickstarter Gatekeeper ended up making them lose so much money, they laid off most the staff. As we speak, the sjw installed at Patreon, the ones responsible for shutting down peoples accounts for having opinions they disagree with, are in court and facing devastating fines.

It means you're against the group BLM.

The problem is, how do you define BLM?

Because everyone I ask this gives me a different answer. What it's supposed to mean and what some people have made it mean are two entirely different things.

In the literal sense it's supposed to mean equality for black people and the value attributed to the lives of black people without it being at the expense of anyone else - actual all round equality.

However there are a lot of people using the movement for malice and are (for example) making it anti-white and are trying to push for black people to get preferential treatment for things like employment opportunities (which is highly ironic). Then there are the opportunists who took it upon themselves to start looting during the protests, all under the guise of BLM.

All of that has led to where we are now.
