The Abby sections of TLOU2 were worth the price of the game alone IMO, yeah I know most of us were upset with choices made for the story and misinformation spread online (including this forum) didn't help but after I played the game I think it probably is Naught Dog's best game overall. Yes many don't like some storyline choices but It plays better than any of their other games, looks better, sounds better etc.

The game is fantastic, it's the clear-cut GOTY. But it's also the type of game where casuals and people who aren't into narratives too often will praise it as the second coming of storytelling and videogames. So it becomes annoying to talk about, it was the same with Fortnite and multiplayer games, the batch of kids who never played PUBG and praised Fortnite way too high.

Plays better especially. The people who say it plays the same as the first never played it. The freedom they give you to tackle encounters is crazy. It's the most responsive third person action game I've played except maybe MGS5.

In my opinion part 2 should have strictly been about abby and her childhood with her father, growing up etc. Would have fixed a shit ton of pacing problems their games have and then the ending twist of her father dying by joels hand which sets up the third game would have been ace.

It's almost like, Neogaf and the negative opinions doesn't represent the entirety of the worlds gaming population in regards to the game.

Amazing.

What a thought.

Wow.

Who woulda thunk?

I want Part III already. My hype for Part II was sky-high for so many years and when it finally released, I devoured the game in three days. Ended up thirsty, specially after that open-ended finale.

I hope it doesn't take them another whole gen to pull out the third one.

What users? You mean the ones who never played the game and simply went there from places like 4chan and The Quartering to review bomb it. Keep living in your fantasy world where the majority hated the game.
Wouldn't the majority be more defined by customers than fanboys on metacritic?

If ND can make an open world game at the level of detail as TLOU2, I would be thoroughly impressed.

I posted about this in the OT last weekend, but really, there is no other game out there where killing people is so satisfying. It’s really fucked up, but on that merit alone it deserves all the accolades it can get.

I was talking about ALL of the users who are voting in every reader's choice GOTY award that TLOU2 has won which is a lot. I'm not just talking about the Metacritic one. It's just the latest one. The customers who bought and played it are the ones voting. That's why the game has a positive user score in every place that actually verifies that you played/own the game. Unlike Metacritic's user score which lets anyone leave a score whether they played it or not.

It probably will. I doubt Part 3 is the next game they'll do and you'll probably be waiting at least 3 years for whatever that is.

Yeah because it was targeted by certain groups. I remember looking at the user score maybe an hour after midnight the night it released and it had like 20,000+ 0/10 scores which doomed any chance it had of having a positive user score on there. Obviously none of those were legit when no one had the ability to play the game by then except reviewers.

All those votes were removed.

Part 3 will be The Godfather 3 of the series.

Disappointing, yet kind of ok and is nowhere near as good as the first two.

Bank it.

The Last of Us trilogy is already fast becoming The Godfather trilogy of videogames.

I've been playing games since the mid eighties and I think it has the best story ever told in video games. If you've ever suffered a personal loss of someone close to you too early you can relate to all 3 playable characters and the difficulty or perhaps impossibility of ever coming to terms with it and what it can do to your mind and entire life.

I just hope that they don't try and please the people who hated TLOU2 and we get an uninspired and half assed game. They should be as uncompromising as this game is.

That depends are they going to refuse to spend money to bring back key role figures such as actors and not pay them what their worth to make a justified and cohesive story or go completely sideways because they are cheap.....

Soooo, every revenge plot ever? I mean, theres no shortage of games that deal with loss out there, both good and bad, serious and silly.

Its, like, one of the easiest plot points you can make exactly because its easy to relate to.

The hell you've played for 30 years?

The game isn't about revenge. It's about guilt, loss, and finding a way to live with your pain. You can call it trite but you may as well be calling the entire human condition trite. It's not the issue you're addressing that makes a story good or bad it's the way in which you address it and TLOU2 absolutely nailed it.

As i said, loss is a reeeeaally common theme and you see it in loads of games, so very common its kinda of a joke in some writing circles, or treated as cheap plot devices by others. Its far from something that should be seen as special and unique in any from any medium.

And honestly its handled horribly here, too much shock value for the sake of shock value and characters wallowing in self pity, feels like something teenagers writing edgy novels and fanfics come up with. If the story wasn't making it obvious its trying to be "serious", this could've passed as an 80s action B movie.
The first game did a much much better job at it in the 15 minutes prologue (though rest of the game is boring).

Yeah, but Ellie is also a teenager who magically turns into kid Rambo, spends 10 hours cutting into peoples throats with a knife and butcher everyone she comes across too conveniently forgive Joel and walk off into the sunset for Last of Us 3. The game tries to cover for her mental state with a ptsd scene in a barn after she joy killed 60 people. Its not exactly shakesphere.

Not to mention the group of people who fights an armed militia with whistles and bow and arrows. A plot straight out of a bad The Walking Dead episode that covers large parts of the game.

The game has a lot of impressive story beats but is also a bit too ambitious. In my opinion. Although I can understand how it might address feelings of deep despair like you mentioned.

In part III you will play as Lev.

Lev in part II is what Ellie was in the original, foreshadowing his role in the third.

No they didn't. They may have removed some but I kept an eye on the user score for some time and there were never tens of thousands of user reviews removed. Not sure who spun that tale to you.

Yes there were, there were thousands of negative reviews being removed, I remember screenshoting the number before and after I went to bed and I saw like 10k review vanishing.

Maybe you didn't notice because there were a lot of positive reviews being posted at the same time negative reviews were being removed.

i hope it does. no need to rush it out. tlou2 had great time to bake, allowing for new animations and technology to evolve. i want it to feel like a true sequel like that.

plus in the meantime, we will have factions and the hbo show to get some tlou blood continuing to flow

Definitely possibly probable.

Ultra twist would be all new playable characters that tie everyone else in. I don’t doubt that they could do it considering what they pulled with Part II, but holy shit would that be crazy.

Umm no because I never paid attention to the positive ones. Only the absurd number of negative ones like how it had 20,000+ of them shortly after the game released when no one had the time to play it at that point. If you got pictures post them then.

There were just as many positive fanboy reviews too.

I thought the game was good, but it had horrible story telling pacing.

I am sure the middle section frustrated a lot of gamers as well. When they wanted to see the ending, but had to play another 15 hours from the past. I knew it was gonna suck and I had to slog through it, didn't expect it to be so long.

I thought the flashback sections were totally random at the time of the story too.

This is like 3 days after release, clearly they removed a lot of reviews.

That's really not proof

You say, on day of release there were over 20k negative reviews, 3 days after the negative reviews are lower than they were on release day. How is that not proof that there were a massive numbers of reviews being removed?

And no I don't keep 6 month old screenshots around.

2015 was the last time a game ran away with GOTY like this. That year Witcher 3 had 250 something while Fallout 4 was the runner up with around 50 something. Almost exact repeat of that where Hades will end up around what Fallout 4 did. Ghost and Animal Crossing will be like Bloodborne and MGS5 with around 30 each give or take.
