Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Sells Most On PS5 In UK Physical Game Chart

I couldn't disagree more. I played about four hours with a friend. It has the GOTG name and characters but it has none of the personality from the film's and to be honest the characters don't feel like they have any personality at all with the exception of Rocket. For me, the game falls flat on its face with something bad to counter act everything good in the game.
So Guardians of the Galaxy needed to look and feel similar to the movies in the first place...why exactly?
They grabbed the comics and interpreted it their own way. That's it.

Imagine if now everything Marvel related needs to be similar to the MCU movies...yikes.

yeah but given the ways to access the games are completely different today from 10 years ago the image we have from these data is really distorted
This data could mean everything and nothing

Is distorted yes, but it's the only bit of information we have.

Obviously more complete data would be preferable. But getting a sense of physical sales is better than nothing.

I think the game will have better long-term sales than most, the word of mouth is pretty strong. I ordered it yesterday despite having zero hype pre launch.

Playstation announced 71% of their game sales were digital in 2020. That number has most likely grown since then.

Its a shame that the better game sold less than The Avengers which was a bad game to say the least.

Oh and the trend continues with the huge split for Playstation. It will be more one sided once more PS5s becomes available to satisfy the insane demand and once Gamepass becomes more popular on the Xbox side with people waiting for games to come to the service instead of purchasing them.
It's interesting because it appears to be double-sided. There are huge upfront costs when starting up and running a subscription service like GamePass. And in addition you potentially have less 30% cuts from third-party games.

Why bother posting physical sales that do not include Digital.

Why report NPD numbers when it doesn't include the world?

This is the logic some are using here just because they don't like the numbers. It's data, a subset of data but data nonetheless. why are people complaining?

Your assumption I don’t “like” the numbers is CONSOLE WARRIOR bs.

I own and play all platforms. Who would even care which platforms sells more? People who should be banned from Gaf that’s who.

i think it’s Silly post numbers of the smallest subset of sales from a small country.

it’s just seems so flawed and pointless.

Ban all the pathetic Console warriors.

Because NPD is a near complete report of NA sales.

Same as Media Create for Japan.

Gameindustrybiz is the only one that aggregates sales, but misses a large chunk of the market. (Digital)

If they ever do start to show a more complete picture of the industry in the UK, people will take it a lot more seriously.

isn't about liking or not ...is like i post here Returnal physical sales in the main chain of electronic shops in italy (under 10k in more than 500 shops) it would make it look lots worst than it is and have basically no chance to get close to give an idea to who read about the truth of the sales final figure.

I'm sure that also in this cases the number is correct ...but those could be completely meaningless.
Btw im not complaining about the thread )) is ok to show data...I'm just giving an "ooookay *shrugs* " answer if someone want make this data mean something without other analysis

It's always the same posters. Bernd, Kagey, Monarch, MrFunSocks and Pasterpl. Oh and they're all on the same side. Coincidence?
I'm not sure how anyone can be on the side of sales?

Unless you are inadvertently admitting these are console wars threads? With sides and all.

My point of thinking for these threads is:

If you say you are going to track Pepsi sales in the US and then put out numbers saying we only track the people who bought Pepsi at Target, does that really tell you how much Pepsi was sold?

XXL XXL even used a blatant console wars link and title instead of the proper gameindustrybiz article it quoted.

Also notice I'm not a pussy and can @ ppl when I'm talking about them, instead of throwing shade hoping it goes unnoticed.

Founder of western console warring.
I wonder if this will work to Microsofts/gamepass and the devs benefit, because sales are not high, why wouldn't the dev take a gamepass offer.
Say GOTG sells 1million on xbox, the dev makes $30million from xbox sales and Microsoft offer them $30million to be on gamepass, why wouldn't the publisher take that deal.

Derktron is back already?
Yes, every time someone tries to tell us that analysing ~5%-10% of the total game sales in a country tells us anything meaningful I will tell them that it isn’t. Like we’re talking a few thousand copies for number 1 here lol. All of the publishers are reporting ~90% of sales are digital these days. Physical is irrelevant in 2021.

The fact that you come in here talking about “sides” showed that you’re console warring. Seeing as how your name is based on a Sony franchise it doesn’t take a genius to see what you’re doing.

We don’t know how it sold because these numbers represent less than 10% of the actual game sales in the UK.

People are surprised by this? Many XBOX gamers won't buy it because they'll wait for it to come to GamePass. Games that perform poorly and more likely to come to GP as developers and publishers look to recoup their cash or make profit.

i don't think it's gamepass related. I think more xbox buyers are purchasing digital. its what i did.

It's the thirst for new gen games that drive these sales, PS4 has at least 10times bigger install base and it still sold way less, Xbox has series S...

My point is, people bought this new machine and they want to use it, there's not much to play right now that's AAA

Xbox is pretty much becoming a GamePass Box.

These sales splits are brutal. How long will this continue before AAA publishers start signing major deals with Playstation instead of Xbox as they know that PS gamers will actually buy their games day one?

GamePass seems to be a double edged sword. On one hand it's keeping Xbox relevant in the eyes of gamers who are looking for the best deal in gaming but on the other hand it's strangling Xbox's AAA third party sales.

I'm not sure if Microsoft intended for this to happen when they came up with the idea of GP.

You're making way too many assumptions. physical sales are part of the picture, but there is also competing games & digital sales that are likely a factor. Right now on PS5 there isn't a lot of new titles to contend with.

Gamepass thus far hasn't hurt game sales on new titles.

Shocking news. Console with biggest install base sells most copies.

Out of all the pointless things to console war over, physical game sales in uk is right up there with who shipped with the longest usb cable in terms of importance.
The news is interesting and worth discussing because the sales difference is 5:1. Do we think that PS sold Xbox 5:1 in the UK? I don't think it did.

So we back to publishers will stop making games for Xbox based on physical sales in the UK?

Embarrassing.

I also think it’s worth mentioning that while the percentage of Digital Edition PS5s out there is not as high as the XSS relative to the Series X, it still is an impactful number of consoles and consumers that don’t have access to physical copies on the PS5 side as well but are still buying games.

Bottom line, digital sales for PS5 are going to be very high also. Hell, I own a disc drive PS5 and still buy most of my games digitally. I’m sure many others do that as well.

Think the interesting thing is the disconnect between this split and then the revenue splits when we look at the ubisoft financial results and then Microsoft/Sony ones.

Wrong basically under any point of view

Because NPD is a near complete report of NA sales.
Is it? I don’t have any insight but I assume it’s reports combined with statistics that has gone through some math algoritm. And digital sales can be excluded for some games and platforms but not for others. It is what it is but I seriously doubt that it’s complete. For all we know Minecraft might’ve sold more copies on a wednesday than the monthly winner.

He said near complete, and it's true. It even has PC digital sales. NPD likely covers 90% of the US market. Meanwhile, UK physical is maybe 30% of the market at best.

At least the dude who publishes the data said he's considering publishing digital data in 2022.

I dont think we have UK PS5 sales numbers, and we certainly dont have Series console UK numbers, but i would guess PS5 is ahead at the moment, which would mean sales siding more with PS5 anyway.
Then take into account that XSS sales are what?, 40% total Series sales i think the financials said, and there was a thread on here a while ago saying that the the PS5 split between physical consoles and the digital consoles was 90/10 if i remember right as I guess Sony are making more money on the physical console so are making way more of them.
Then add in the fact that i would GUESS that the vast majority of people who bought a Series console also signed up for Gamepass, meaning that Xbox Series owners are probably way more settled in the digital sales market than PS5 where the majority of its sales have been the disk console.
Put it all together and i dont really see why any of this news is surprising.

I mean Playstation users were already at 71% digital a year ago or whenever that article eas dated, and are probably pushing 75% digitsl today, if not more. I wouldnt be surprised if Xbox users are 85% digital, maybe even 90% for the Series Xbox users anyway due to the high split of XSS owners, and probably Gamepass subscribers that have acclimatized many Xbox users to digital over the last 2 or 3 years.

I mean we will see it in a few months when we get 'bad' Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite physical numbers, and then Microsoft will come out with their 5mil users, then 10mil users, etc, and on here we will get pages of posts like 'How can they have 10mil users when da UK physical thread showed da games only sold 5 copies!,. how can this beeeee!?!?!' :messenger_tears_of_joy:

You just need to compare the 3:1, 4:1 or even 5:1 boxed ratios in favor of Playstation to the revenues that gets posted by both companies.

Last year, the revenue ratio wasn't even 2:1, and this revenue includes hardware sales where Playstation is much, much stronger than Xbox. If we only looked at software sales and network services (subscriptions, DLCs, MTX...), the ratio would likely be around 1.5:1. It's almost like UK boxed sales aren't representative 🤭

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
There is a reason why some people going for Xbox, its for the gamepass, for the value.

They are not going to buy games in full price, especially for third party titles, they are just going to wait for price drop or games enters the gamepass library.

Physical OR digital sales is going to get worse on Xbox.
