So OP, its been 6 pages, are you starting to understand what perceived value is now?

I'm not trying to be a dick I'm just saying you aren't thinking about this critically, people value their time as money, so they pay more money to receive more time back, in this case because they can play the Switch when not in the house, or on the toilet.

The graphics and performance thing is moot until it hits a point where the playing experience is affected extremely negatively, just because other consoles do X res or have X framerate on every game at X price for the console is irrelevant to whether Switch is still acceptably playable at its own res and framerate.

If you don't think its worth it then its your choice as a consumer to not buy it, if enough do like you do then Nintendo will change their strategy.

No offense but this is a stupid comparison because that PS5 doesn’t have a portable mode.

An iPad Pro starts at $800. Would you compare that to a PS5 😂

Well if you think about it, PS5 doesn't come with an OLED as well, which by itself is like 1300-2000$, so the new Switch is basically a steal ;D

Is that the comparison you wanna make, 7 month old consoles versus a 4.5 years old one? Still, the new gen consoles are backwards compatible with thousands of games, and hundreds of them including many major big titles are not on Switch. And going forward is only going to get better for the new consoles. I appreciate you recognized there's only some 20 games exclusive to Switch worth talking about. I wonder how many of those the average Switch user on this forum owns...
well, like already noted, there aren't really more exclusives on the PS4 and Xbox One, which are about twice as old as the Switch.

also no one, except a small minority, just buys exclusives for a platform. They are usually the reason to buy a system, but just because God of War is a system seller doesn't mean I won't play multiplatform games on the PS4. That's not how it works, even for companies like Nintendo.

You're either ignorant, delusional or both. I'll put aside the Xbox, the PS4 alone has more than twice what the Switch has exclusive to its platform, lol what are you on? And yes, multiplatform games are a thing, and the overwhelming majority of them are shared between PS4/PS5, Xbox One/X/S and PC, and more often than not absent on Switch. The main reason to buy a Switch is portability, it has a strong library of around 20 solid exclusives but if it wasn't a portable it wouldn't sell much better than the Wii U.

According to what? Your own method?

From the Top 100 games on PS4, I count 15 exclusives, that is if you count VR games and games like flower or the Last of Us: Remastered. Let's round that to 20.
More than twice? Not according to your very own logic.

Also, strong software sales pretty much prove that people buy plenty of games on the Switch, not just exclusives. Many devs even noted that their games do sell better on Switch. It's the strongest lineup of third-party games Nintendo had since... maybe ever? The only system that comes close is the Nintendo DS.

Yes, the Switch is not getting every game for obvious reasons, but last time I checked there are over 3000 games in total available for the Switch, over 896 of those with an average Metacritic score of 70 or above. There is more than enough to play here.

There are so many reasons to criticize Nintendo for (the whole youtube ID thing, their dated Online, how they behave towards fangames, etc.), but this isn't one of them
and sorry, but you are clearly biased.

My own logic? You think looking among the top 100 of a platform with thousands of multiplat games would be the same as the top 100 for the Switch? You sir, don't know the first thing about logic. You think I didn't count games on the Switch that are also available on the Wii U or 3DS? If we substract those then there's even less "exclusives". Of course I'm including those only available on a Nintendo platform. And you probably think I'm just talking about first party games, don't you? I'm counting any game that is exclusive to the platform whether it's 1st party, 3rd party, or a re-release for both Nintendo and PlayStation.

Outside of Japan, very few third party games, multiplat or otherwise sell well on the Switch. Their top 10 sales every week and month is usually packed with their usual suspects, all their big games. There may be an odd duck now and then, but Nintendo makes consoles to sell their own games, they don't give a damn about third parties and the new Switch hardware refresh is strong evidence for that.

There are thousands of multiplatform games on Switch as well, so yes, definitely.
The most recent one is Monster Hunter Stores 2. Releases both on PC and Switch, but the Switch version is the one getting promoted so it's probably the one getting the most sales.

Again, last time I checked there are over 3000 games in total available for the Switch, over 896 of those with an average Metacritic score of 70 or above. There is more than enough to play here.

Your logic is completely flawed and biased.

You think I didn't count games on the Switch that are also available on the Wii U or 3DS?

That's a guess, nothing more. I've never said otherwise. What are you on about?

And you probably think I'm just talking about first party games, don't you? I'm counting any game that is exclusive to the platform whether it's 1st party, 3rd party, or a re-release for both Nintendo and PlayStation.
Yes, I counted that. It's still 15.

That is wrong. Even Witcher 3 managed to move over a million units. The software sales of the Switch prove you wrong. They weren't on this level in a long time for a Nintendo platform. A gaming company can't say 'fuck you' to third parties anymore. This ain't the N64 or Gamecube. Times changed. Third parties are very important to build and maintain a successful platform.

"Lifetime unit sales for Switch console gaming software amounted to 578 million."

That is almost 5 times as much as the Wii U.
Only the Wii and the Nintendo DS have more, and the Switch still got some years left.

Now compared to the PS4, the Switch obviously got a lot less. Software sales of the PS4 are around 1.2 billion.
When everything is said and done though, the Switch will be above a billion or at the very least close to it (matching the 1.2 billion is definitely possible). Those are great software sales. Microsoft can only dream to have software sales on that level.

Whatever man. Never said there's not plenty to play on Switch. It only has 20 solid exclusives, a PS4 has hundreds of solid games you can't play on a Switch. Switch only has a few games you can't play on the other platforms. I'm done here.

$499 is too much for a $399 system with a $20 disc drive.
No it's not. The PS5 DE is sold at a loss so it isn't just a $20 disc drive for $499.
What's funny is paying $299 for a system that costs about $150. But Nintendo like milking their fans and their fans enjoy paying it. I don't blame Nintendo I hope they carry on doing this. Down the line they could bring an updated model with Oled screen and better battery life😂😂😂

Is there even one business that would think "gee, our product is selling gangbusters. let us reduce the asking price."

This obviously isn't for people already owning a Switch, this is for new customers.
Can’t believe this has to be said.

We can compare a handheld from 2017 to a 2020 loss leading console, but can't compare said console to itself with a disc drive?
There's nothing to compare you numpty. PS5 DE is sold at a significant loss. Sony obviously don't want to fully absorb that loss on the normal PS5 which will be the bigger seller. Sony released the DE as an answer to Series S.

I noticed on the iPhone 12 that white has a yellow tint to it.

Maybe this oled switch will have that as well.

That's the entire point of my original post. It isn't a terrible value compared to a $50 more ps5. First off the old version is a luxury version and non-essential. Second off the ps5 digital is a rip off with $70 games that don't really go on sale now.

But the real point is the switch has more exclusives to play. Of course you should own something else, but if you have a pc, ps4, or xbox already the switch is the obvious choice.

Wow. There's a lot of anger in this thread.

If you don't like what the switch is doing (like some of my friends) then don't buy one.

He (like some people here) sends me 'stop having fun' style messages a few times a month then shows me his PC rig parts. It's horses for courses.

The switch is a very unique proposition that other companies are trying to solve in different ways (hardware/cloud/play anyway)

Just be glad there's always competition, options and alternatives. If THEY didn't exist; then I'd let you off for being angry 😙

PS2 was weakest system but it was best console on that gen because it had games, as long as a gaming system has the games you care about then it’s worth the price.

I love my PS5 but I’m playing more of my Switch and buying more Switch games than PS5.

I'm with you OP. I don't know how people think it's such a slam dunk that the switch is portable so you shouldn't complain about the price difference. There's no perceived value bullshit; it's overpriced for what it is.

They did the absolute bare minimum for upgrades. I got a switch at launch and they are still priced the same. That's Nintendos prerogative but I don't think it's worth buying. Hardcore Nintendo fans with disposable income will buy it but they'll buy anything at this point.

Things not being taken into consideration is the simple replacement of the switch you have in your possession now. The 'advantage' of making portable gaming devices are they are prone to general wear and tear along with natural battery degradation.

I'm sure there are plenty of year 1/2 purchasers who will be looking at this model for a natural hardware refresh and improvement for very little extra on top of the base model.

A significant hardware refresh aside from QoL opens up a whole kettle of fish.

rather not say
Well from my point of view, which can be totally inaccurate, Nintendo knows full well that their players buy their platform to play Nintendo games and not really care for the multiplatform games on their device. I have a switch as well as a PS5 and if in some scenario FF16 would have a switch port, I'm pretty sure they don't expect a gamer like me to buy it on the switch (unless I was drawn to the portability aspect of it..which I'm not) but they know full well thay they will get me with the next Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Yoshi etc.

I think they know they can "get away" with having their first party games still in low resolutions compared to the competition so they are going to delay the jump to 4k for as looooooong as they can...until the switch doesn't sell enough anymore or someone has an idea for a game that needs more power but would be guaranteed to be a phenomenon I guess.

But I don't know anything about their business strategy, all I know is I already have a switch and am not buying the oled version unless my regular-ass switch breaks and the successor is far out.

There's this mentality in tech that you do something innovative/different than you just rest and collect the money and keep resting. If doing almost no changes in your products is still getting a steady flow of cash than its viewed as "smart" by your investors.

With the whales Nintendo currently have, they don't have to make an effort for a while. People can shit on the Wii U for not selling but the quality of games at that time released was impressive. Nintendo having to work for the audience is the best Nintendo. Lazy ports of games and now lazy ports of consoles is worst Nintendo, aka current Nintendo.

Let's Address The Elephant In The Room. Buying a Switch is not mandatory, Nintendo can charge whatever they want. If you don't like it, don't buy it or wait for the price to drop.

Nintendo is rarely in the business of making good deals. If they didn't offer first-party titles that no one else does, they would be in serious trouble.

Yup, I'm glad I bought the thing at launch, when I thought the $300 price point was absolutely fair... now I just laugh at them for trying to charge $350 for this thing.

They're angry because apparently CPU and GPU specs are the sole determinants of a console's value so the Switch should be $59.

What if a Switch 2 releases in 2023?

Personally, I would be mad if I bought the "Pro system" for better specs, just for it to be replaced by a real successor shortly after.

Simple as you are not stuck paying $70-$80 for $30 games on Switch while on PS5 digital that is exactly what you're going to do..

Nintendo always sell shit hardware ever since the Wii, that the new OLED screen is also subpar isn't a surprise.

The thing is, unless people stop buying the Switch, then Nintendo is more than justified in selling it for the price they set it at and it's selling very well. Simple as that.

You do know that people play Switch in docked mode too right. I'm one of them.
And there are people who have smart phones but only call or text. Or buy an HDTV to watch DVD’s. Doesn’t change the fact that the tech and features are there.
