This was their chance to make a so so game more than just so so. What a missed opportunity.

I really enjoyed KoA when it first released, but I'm not gonna kid myself here. This was always an average at best RPG in my eyes so I'm not sure what people were expecting here. It wasn't gonna be a giant budget to remake everything in this game. I mean it changed so much before it finally got out of the gates the first time, it was a frankenstein of a game then, and sounds like it still may be.

I would say though based on scores, it should sit around a 7/10, it says more about us that anything less then a 9 is considered bad. I've enjoyed plenty of 7/10 titles. Not every game made is gonna sell 20 million copies, companies need to have realistic expectations so that something like this can still be considered a success without HAVING to sell 10 million copies.

I get what you're saying. I thought the game was ok the first time I played it, but I didn't finish it. Something about it didn't hold me. I guess for some reason I was just hoping this version would be the one to hold my interest more, but it seems to just be the same game over again with barely any differences. I get what you're saying though. I've liked, loved even, many games that are not 9s or 10s. Hell, Misadventures of Tron Bonne may be my favorite Megaman game of all time, and it's a smaller, more experimental Megaman game with a clearly lower budget. I guess I was just hoping there'd be more to this than just a retread of the same territory, otherwise, what's the point of a remaster at all?

This is a slight remaster at best. Why the fuck would I pay for this? I can just play the old game.

I actually bought this game 8 years ago because of the GAF hype and played it for about 30 minutes and never thought about it again until this thread. WTF is the point?

I loved this game back in the days, then i got stuck in a quest the next event wouldn't trigger.
I tried a few hours and after that i never looked back....
I wish this remaster was better:messenger_crying:

So what I'm getting from the few reviews I read is that it's still a fun game but the "Remaster" amounts to little more than an upres.

I'm absolutely baffled that this isn't a free upgrade on PC. For almost every other game, this kind of mild upgrade would be a free patch. We regularly see patches far more significant than this re-release. THQ Nordic have gotta be complete clowns.

Got this for ten bucks on eBay (coupon) so giving it a shot. I’ve heard enough people who love it and I’ve never tried it.

it definitely has “empty mmo” vibes tho

I was interested for a while, but the comments about it being like a singleplayer MMO (in terms of generic story and cookie-cutter quests) turned me off. Combat sounds like it's the only real strong point, and even with that, there is a lot of repetition. Now disappointed to hear that the upgrade and overhaul is very minimal.

I own the original, do i get a free upgrade?

I heard ACG say something in his review about it being $15 (rather than the normal $40) for those with the original. Not sure if that's console or PC. So, not free, but discounted to $15.

Loved this game when it first came out and I suffered through the awful performance back then. I’ll pick this up on Xbox during the holidays this year and give it another run through.

Also I don’t mind every game not getting an 8 or 9 out of 10. They don’t all have to be GOTY potential for me to enjoy it. Feel the same way about movies too.

Still waiting on my copy to ship.
Loved this game back when it was new. And there is going to be a third DLC area added next year, so all the better.

It's the darling of people who wanted an MMO experience without any other players.

I got this for free on PS+ a while ago and finally got around to trying it a few months ago, was kind of interested to see what was up with it since maybe the remaster might also restart the franchise... but I didn't even get out of the first cave. It felt so clumsy and archaic, and when I went online to see playthroughs to see if I was wrong, I could see some of the play complexity that maybe fans appreciated, but nothing convinced me to keep going.

Good for the fans to have this back in their lives, even if it's not for me...

Actually, question.
The original game has a really annoying load error. When you first enter the large port city towards the end of the game, there is a cut scene panning around the environment. It's only supposed to play the first time you go there, but the load error made it play every time you entered the outside area of the city. Like, leaving a room in the city would activate it. This is on top of the horrible load times still being there (according to people who already have the game).

Played it quite a bit on my xbox360, did not finish it though. Didn't like the art direction that much, the bloom was a bit excessive for me, and it was an all around mediocre game.

That said, I have no idea why Re-reckoning is so damn appealing to me now. The visual upgrade isn't super significant and apart from that its basically the same game.

After some good remasters from THQN it seems very odd that they'd give us basically the same game again. Meh, I'll pass.

One thing I've always loved about this game is that they don't punish you for being a mage, so many other fantasy themed games relegate the mage to someone who has to stand back and take forever to cast attack spells that do hardly any damage all while making you basically useless in melee combat. In this game since it's not a party based RPG they actually let the mage have effective up close combat with the staff as well as good ranged attacks.

So there's a FOV Slider and that's pretty much it. Performance is crap too.

I remember playing the 360 demo. Seemed decent. Reminds of a game in the Prototype/Darksiders/Just Cause kind of tier --> a AA production value feel to it.
