Is this peak game design?

Just the way the stage starts off, with the change in perspective, the music kicks in and Falco says, "Here they come!!"

I started humming the music a second ago and it dawned on me how amazing this level is. Really makes you feel like a badass.

Solid choice. The equivalent level in Starfox 64 is great too. My pick would be level 1-1 in Super Mario brothers. It works perfectly to teach you how to play with no tutorial of any kind.

Man, the music in that dungeon is pure bliss. Definitely one of the best dungeons in Zelda and a great ramp up in terms of design for OOT.

The first 3 dungeons as kid Link are great but they're so tiny/short now in hindsight.

I'd say the same about Doom II and E1M1. Hell, I'd bet more people have played Doom II to be honest. I don't think I've met anyone that's played D2 that doesn't know just about every secret on that specific level.

No, it's mediocre game design and level design. Doesn't add anything already available on a Star Wars arcade game from the 70s.
