do you ever find yourself playing a video game that you aren't really enjoying and you can't figure out why you're still playing it?
this is kinda happening to me rn with AC: Valhalla.
the game started off decent enough (sorta) but once I got to England shit has quickly begun to go downhill.
I'm about 35 hours in and have been primarily focusing on just doing the main quest line. I'll do whatever sub quests that I happen to stumble on but don't really go out of my way seeking them because they are, for the most part, boring af. last one I did literally involved me carrying a heavy box of apples down a road for 5 minutes. I completed the quest by...placing the box of apples on the floor near some cabin. what the fuck?
I'm in the process of claiming my 4th territory on the alliance map and it feels like I've been doing the same shit for the past 20 hours.
show up to some territory, help them overthrow the king by partaking in large scale battles with my viking bros where the combat is basically indistinguishable each time. the characters are so generic that the plots between each territory are starting to blend together in my head.
upgrading my town has been a chore because all raids feel exactly the same. funny enough, the raids play out exactly the same way as the major battles that take place during the main quest line.
I've also found zero incentive to play this game using any sort of stealth strategy. you can sneak in and get around doing assassinations and finish the quest that way...or you can just run in and kill everything in sight and do the same quest 100 times faster.
there are some positives, I guess. maybe that's what's keeping me going. the world really is beautiful and some of the sites are a joy to explore simply due to how pretty they are. that's pretty much it tho. or maybe I'm just still playing because I paid full price for this game.
I'm hoping once I complete the alliance map and take over all the territories that there will be some major shift in the gameplay and that this will add some much needed variety to the game.
anyways, anyone else ever do this? play a game they aren't necessarily enjoying in hopes that it will get better once you get over some major hurdle in the game? it feels like taking over the alliance map will prob take a total of at least 40 hours (that’s assuming I really try to rush through it). really, really hoping things change for the better once I do.
