GT is phenomenal. There's not a single other racing game with the amount of details this one has, from sounds to the unique cockpits and board computers on each car, I think the industry would be better if every dev had the same attention to detail on their games
The industry would take 10 years to make 1 game.

GT7 seems so dour and boring. I would like to see someone who has GT7 and Forza Horizon 5 and compare/contrast the two. GT7 seems more sim but FH5 more arcadey.
Wow, that is an utterly amazing comparison! Bravo sir, Bravo!

Also, you have answered your own question.

Might as well fucking compare Football Manager with FIFA. ZOMG FM IS SO BORING

What does a typical bundle come with?

Here for example you choose 2 disk games from the store, a headset "rarely a Pulse 3D", an extra controller. When you do the math you didn't pay more than what they cost at around $800 with VAT included. Some just sell you the console+extra controller+pulse 3D. You rarely see only the console costing like $700-800 alone, only seen it in the airport so-called "duty-free".

I’ve got both (well FH5 is on GP) and you’re right GT7 is more sim and FH5 is arcadey. They don’t really bear comparison as a result - this only comes up in the context of console warring as far as I can tell but if they were both on the same platform this wouldn’t be a thing.

But beyond that it’s the presentation in FH5 I dislike. It’s trying too hard to be cool with its DJ festival vibe, fake radio host hype and facile social media stuff, but to me that is all just so cringey and doesn’t suit a car game of any type. I did like the open world road driving for a while to explore - but the world is dead so that was a short lived thing. The rest was the usual car/race events, Ubisoft style icons all over the map and a grind to do “something” for reasons I didn’t care about...

So FH5 puts a lot gimmicks around its arcade style racing but for me neither the gimmicks nor gameplay was interesting enough to persist with.

GT7 doesn’t overshadow the gameplay with gimmicks. I don’t necessarily think GT7 revolutionises the genre, but it has refined the GT concept - which is basically unique - and shown that a “sim” can be addictive and enjoyable even with the dualsense.

Ultimately though it depends what kind of gaming you like. For car/auto sport enthusiasts who want a competitive experience, GT7 is a must have - if you’re a GP sub who’s not really into cars and just wants some automotive chaos for a few hours, then FH5 is fine.

Not GT7 but i did play GT5 (and other racing sims) as well as FH1, 3 & 4.

Although people say GT is a sim and FH is arcade, truth is GT isn't full hardcore sim, and FH isn't this arcadey game either still retaining a lot of sim elements from Forza Motorsport. From what i've seen, most people like GT for the progression system and FH as a car sandbox of sorts (though earlier entries had more well fleshed out progression). Both have "car porn" aspects to it too.

As for dour and boring, most racing sims of this type usually look like that, you won't necessarely like them either as they have a certain type of public in mind.

There are some more fun-looking sims though

Yeah, it does seem that FH5 tries to be too into what is cool now. I think Forza Motorsport will be more like GT7.

I really wanted this but Bungie scarred me for life with bullshit MTX models, and judging by the uproar this is even worse?

Somehow OP had to fit in a dark souls reference. You know, you had to keep trying at things to get good before dark souls was ever a concept. It’s not unique to dark souls at all.

I thought I was the only one that compared the difficulty to dark souls. If you want to go for all golds then it will seriously be hard.

An amazing game though and the main reason I wanted my ps5. I’m not sure whether this or Kirby will be my 2022 GOTY.

Forza Horizon 5 presentation is indeed a bit cringe.

It's cars getting dropped by planes, loud music all the time, water splashing on the camera, DJ festivals and fake radios... Narrator always says things like "Welcome to Mexico, life is so amazing, we're going to have the best times of our lives! Yeah!"

But I have to say the open-world aspect of the game and the natural environments are pretty cool.

Yeah this is something good to probably keep in mind, if solo units themselves aren't more readily available in a few months and MSRP is still very hard to come by. Because it seems like in that situation the bundles would be easier to grab and with more value relatively speaking, too.

They've already released a patch to increase the amount of credits earned per race, and some other changes, in response to the backlash. I'm not exactly aware of the full depth of the changes with the latest patch, though.

Thanks for the info, maybe I can look into it now 👍

I thought about it, trust me, but I'm already full or crap and I'm supposed to move in with my girlfriend in a couple of months and I can't keep buying stuff.

I got a foldable one I can easily hide, once we settle somewhere I can consider getting a proper seat.
The ones I mentioned ARE foldable ;)

I looked them up. They're twice the price of the one I bought, but most important, they take much more space. I need to move and might end up having all of my stuff in a smaller room instead of the living, which is pretty big. I also want to see how much I actually use the steering wheel. I'll happily buy one if I like it.

Do you guys have the shifting gear as well? Do you recommend it?

I own a modded G29 and only use pedal shifters, which are modded with magnets behind it.

The sequential shifter is shite, unless you add some aftermarket mods to it. I'm not venturing into that part of simracing yet.

Oh and I replaced the default wheel with an F1 style version.
