Clickbait Cringe How about an easy mode for Elden Ring?

I understand that but nothing changes with the gameplay if it does have an easy mode just seems the ego of some don't want it to. As for the developers not putting it in well they are obviously pandering to the entitled pussies that don't want an easy mode there as the cant tell there friends how superior they are for beating the game.
It's just not gonna happen man. Just accept it.

Majority is of games have half-ass difficulty option, there are people who play games like Bayonetta and DMC on easy or Normal and call it boring “button masher” because they don’t want engage with its combat in higher difficulty, AGAIN FROM clearly doesn’t want to do that.
Again how would it affect anything if they make it how they do then put, with im guessing pretty much zero effort put in an easy mode. Entitled pussies like you obviously don't want that as then they can't say how good they are for beating a game that forces you to play in a bullshit hard mode.

FROM games fans thinking they are so hardcore, news flash, most games have nightmare (or whatever name difficulty). You are just playing a game on the highest difficulty. Play Doom Eternal on Nightmare and ull die over and over plenty.
Well, yeah, I will die a lot. Shooters take the easy route with their higher difficulties by just giving the AI better aimbot skills and increase the damage for each hit. Souls games don’t need to do that to be difficult. They’re difficult by a clever use of enemy placement, balancing, environment and of course bosses.

which is to say they’re punishing to new players but they’re not that hard once you know what you’re doing and many things can trivialize the difficulty, for example: in demon souls most enemies have a weakness to magic and in dark souls that weakness is fire. You can easily breeze through the games with a royalty class for the former and a pyromancer for the latter.

I think it's less about that and more about how much more rewarding it is to beat a game that was difficult and required some thought and skill than beating a game that you can play blindfolded in a coma.

I really really don't care I just don't get the bollocks that it will negatively affect the game in some way as it would still be developed the exact same way and people who don't like the idea really don't make much sense why as they will never use an easy mode like I have never used one in any game.

I give up ive lost count how many times I've asked that if its the exact same game but with an easy mode even if its hidden or fuck it cheats, how does that affect the core players at all.
The developer doesn’t want to do it. It’s ok. And it‘s not like if you want to play a game with an easy mode there isn’t any choice.
is it so bad that few games don’t have easy mode?

like anything slightly artistic, you can never please everyone. The important part is that you have choices for everyone and then you can pick what you like and let the other pick what they like.

Im not arguing its bad or anything im simply saying it would not affect the game in any way at all. I really don't think they will ever have an easy mode and that's fine but we can discuss why it wouldn't be a bad idea or affect the game itself.

Why are people so relentlessly butthurt over this?

Just don't buy their games and play something else. You are not being forced to play them, nor are you being duped. They are literally advertised as difficult games where difficulty is integral to the overall experience.

Do you go around wishing platformers were racing games? Or that shooters are puzzle games?

Stop whining and move on with your life. It's the developers choice, end of. If you don't want the difficulty then they don't want you playing.

Because it would still be a From Software game but it wouldn't be a From Software game if that makes sense.

Honestly they are not really my type of games anyway they look quite boring, but there is nothing wrong in thinking an easy mode would be ok and not change the game at all.

In most cases you're right, an easy mode doesn't change much. But in this instance, it's not ok and it does change the game quite a bit due to expectations.

Every time new FROM game comes out we get same god damn arguments over and over again. We said MANY, MANY times that FROM clearly doesn't want to do it. I have my limits too here.....so I’m done with this type of discussion like this.

The games will probaly never have an easy mode and thats fine, I just don't get the hostility for it not having one as nothing actually changes about how the game is made or played. It is what it is suppose and ill leave it at that as nothing more can be discussed on it. Im out.

I think the hostility is more because you keep bringing this up and you don't even like souls games in the first place lol.

Its not the same at all between an easy mode and normal mode thats changing the whole game and you know it. No one can seem to answer how it would change anything apart from the fact they can tell their friends they beat a hard game.
Ok, I’ll bite.

Back in 2009, DS was a revolution because of how cryptic, hard and stoic it was. Everyone playing it was scratching their heads and communities were being built to unravel the game and beat it. It was an event like they happen once in a decade. Specially at a time where games were in full-on auto mode with waypoints, auto-regeneration and press up for puzzle hint.

All of that magic would be gone with your retarded easy mode. All of that austere atmosphere and dark narrative would be lost with the dilution of the difficulty. Nothing would make sense. I trembled when I first saw the cutscene to Flamelurker. The labyrinth of horror that preceded it would have no impact because of the possibility of dropping the difficulty. There was no way out except forward with knowledge.
The obtuseness was the experience.

If you fail to understand that you don’t respect gaming culture in the slightest.

Yep. The lack of an easy mode is built in to the ethos.

They still have their creative freedom for fuck sake this aint brave heart. It would be as simple as making you being able to tank more or enemy's dieing easier why do people hate that idea so much. You would still have the developers creative freedom there but also with an easy mode who don't like that. But yea fuck options eh so MORE people could enjoy what was created by said developers.
The thing about difficult games is alot of players don't realise they want it until there forced to experience it.

I was personally like this I enjoyed a moderate challenge but generally avoided really hard games. This changed with dark souls when I decided to give it a go many years after release. The difficulty was frustrating at first but after I got used to how it plays it ended up being one of my favourite games of all times. I feel if it had an easy mode I would have enjoyed it, moved on and it likely wouldn't have had much of impact.

I feel the difficulty is pretty important to its gameplay mechanics and alot of it wouldn't feel as fun if made easier.

Take the exploration. Players love to explore every nook and cranny in these levels because every estus flask, shard, new weapon armour etc etc can make there life just that little bit easier. If the game was easier I know this wouldn't be as rewarding. I was playing ghost of tsushima last year ( on the hardest difficulty) and at some point on the third island I stopped caring about new upgrades because I was so ridiculously overpowered that it no longer mattered. In fact I heard some gamers would remove armour, charms etc to try and get some kind of challenge. This is big problem for games that want to encourage exploration.

Think about the cooperative play as well. Would players summon other players if the game was easy? Maybe but I think far less would and I don't think if would be as fun to just destroy an easy boss just for the hell of it.

Honestly at this point I wouldn't mind if future from software games has an easy mode. Myself and alot of players know we enjoy hard games and it wouldn't effect us. However there is likely still alot of players that don't know this and won't know it until there forced to experience it. Sometimes having too much choice can be a bad thing.

Of course the difficulty will always turn away some players but who said all games have to be for everyone?!

I wasnt going to reply again but appreciate the explanation on why its liked so much as it is. Honestly I'm not bothered at all if it stays as it is just did not see the harm in an easy mode for reasons above but yea no game does, or has to appeal to everyone and I can some of the issues an easy mode would have like you said. Anyway Iast post on this thread for me.

There are plenty games harder than Soulsborne, but not having a difficulty option to challenge players makes From stand out from the crowd, unless their sales change i don't see them adding difficulty options, it works well for their audience

nemiroff nemiroff You not allowed to play games you bought how you feel like it, they will arrest you!!! /s

Yeah I'm perplexed.. This shit is so juvenile its beyond belief. And this is coming from someone who beat every Souls games (solo) many times over and can hold my own in faster PvP games. I even grew up playing games at a time where games were generally a lot harder than they are today. I mean, Wtf. If it bothers you so much how random people enjoy their games not exactly like you, and you just can't let it go, perhaps it would be a good idea to schedule a MRI scan and get some help.

Get the PC version. Install cheats. Shut the fuck up and try to give up your addiction to making corporations do your bidding.

I like how this idiot moans about players not getting the same experience while at the same time making a case for being able to customise difficulty settings.

What a pathetic, insulting and ignorant comment. You do realise that you have literal disabled people from the neck down smashing these games on PC and using the Xbox Accessibility special controllers right?

They are so good they would wipe the floor of you in an invade. Get the fuck out of here with that BS.
Lol for some of the disabled. Happy now

I've never understood the demand for easy options in games that were very clearly designed to never have such things in them in the first place. If you want to play a game that is drop dead easy then the souls games are not for you. But that doesn't mean that you aren't allowed to enjoy the games. You can watch other people play it on twitch, you can watch let's plays on youtube, or if you're into it you can watch a straight no commentary walkthrough of it if you don't like hearing someone talk over the game.

This idea that all games everywhere need to be able to accommodate everyone at all times is one of the more ridiculous things to come out of recent years. Not all games are for everyone. They don't need to be.
What annoys me is that the conversation doesn't even take place with a focus on what the developer could do in the context of gameplay.

If easy mode consists of giving the player more HP or larger XP rewards or allowing them more damage then it should be pointed out that souls games already facilitate that via levelling up.

Specific builds can trivialise the games. Specific weapons or rings or armour sets. Specific items may be immensely useful.

It's kind of worse when it's gaming media outlets doing this complaining or demanding when it would make more sense for them to produce articles explaining how to beat the game. That would be good content. Certainly better than moaning and demanding.

If they want to offer solutions then they could point out that most times there is a way to "cheese" difficult bits in Souls games.

So an idea like if the player dies x number of times on a specific boss then they can go talk to a certain NPC and buy an item with their souls that could one hit a specific boss and then break etc etc.

No outlet seems to offer creative solutions and instead seems to just throw shade at the souls community.

People will say that summoning is easy mode and that's true. The developers actually designed a system that makes the game a lot easier. Yet this gets dismissed.

Basically any argument that these games can be made easier by actions in game is dismissed because people just want a menu option.

So they want the game to be more convenient to get through. Not easier.

I'd love to hear more suggestions that facilitate play for people who aren't that good but that also incorporate these into the game.

Would be easy to do a time travel mechanic where players can be in the world 5 years before the events of the game allowing them to traverse the world with no enemies present. Then offer an item that allows the player to glimpse the future which basically has them learn the events that will play out in the game without needing to beat the bosses etc. That would give the "explore the world" people their thing and the "enjoy the story" people their thing.

Surely people who are games journalists or commentators or critics can come up with something more imaginative than "when I click on New Game give me various difficulty options"?

Eh, you can already do that in-game.

Are you really just arguing that it should be a menu option and only a menu option?

It kind of makes no sense.

"I wish this game was easier."

OK so we have this magic system and if you level up the correct stats the game will be super easy with magic.

"Noooooo! Why are you trying to force me to play your game and engage with its systems? I just want to go to settings and click on EASY MODE!"

They would just need to increase the player (hp, def and attack)

LOL.

If only there was some kind of way to increase your HP, defense or attack in Souls games...

If only there was some way to push up the level of your character to have an increase in HP and power etc.

Some kind of Upping Your Level mechanic... Would be a pretty neat idea if someone ever developed such a system.

I propose we refer to it as "level up" and furthermore suggest that the developers of RPGs start implementing it right away.

Lets go totally crazy and suggest that players can even level up gear at some blacksmith NPC or loot bodies for better gear and useful items. Hell, why not have players even obtain better equipment and items from in-game NPCs where we could also use dialogue for world building and such.

I agree, it's weird for them sure, but it's a tale as old as time.

Thing is amazing. A few people know about it and love it. They share it with people they know and there is a devoted following to thing.
People in suits realize thing can make them money. But we have to make sure everyone can enjoy thing, so we have to change thing.

In the end, the only people who enjoy thing are the people who are so dumb they don't understand what the thing was. In fact they don't understand how to enjoy anything, they just do what they're told. They're told that thing is amazing so they say it's amazing and act like they love it.

BioWare. Blizzard. Fucking SquareSoft.

We'll see what From does. I want to say they'll be smart but... I was a young guy playing Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger and SMRPG all in three years, and SquareSoft was my god. Look at them now.
Its kind of sad to see critics and industry media actually demanding this.

In other creative media the critics would be concerned about creators getting lazy or stale or generic. Cult content and niche genres are pretty much encouraged.

With gaming instead it turns to snide comments about gatekeeping etc. Challenging works are viewed as not being inclusive.

It feels like music critics wouldn't be demanding that all bands be more like Coldplay.

Movie critics certainly aren't wishing for more blockbusters from the billion dollar making Transformers franchise.

Game critics do like to have a good moan about difficult games though. Imagine if everything was just a walking sim...

You think these people bother to explore levels to find these rings and items (weapons/armor/consumables/soul items) that make the game easier? I think you're asking too much.

These games give you enough items and hints (in the item descriptions!) that can help trivialise large parts of the game but because the game doesn't say "go here" and "do this" these people give up and then come crying in threads like this.

A large part of what makes these games so great is the community driven aspect of them. There have been so many times when I've gone on suicide runs to certain areas that I have no right to be in yet just to grab some items that people have recommended to help me through certain sections/bosses. You can outright break these games with certain builds/weapons/items.

Even with there being an "easy mode" a lot of the complainers still wouldn't like the games because they simply don't mesh with what the essence of what these games are about. The whole experience is a journey of exploration, curiosity and discovery. That gets lost on people who play games with the mindset of "finishing" them rather than kicking back and letting the experience come to you.

I'm so fucking glad these games exist and fly in the face of the bullshit hand-holding "sensibilities" that most modern games are riddled with.

I laugh so hard now when I see a game put in 'journalist difficulty.' 😄

I strongly support a developer's right to release a game with the difficulty of their choosing, but I also support players to find games acceptable to their skill, or even mod the experience to their liking. Hey you paid for it, you can game however you like.

I just don't expect developers to go out of their way to put in easier difficulties if they don't want to.

Does nobody every consider the fact that the gaming community is obviously so thirsty for these kind of difficult games?

Think about it.

They've released Demon's Souls, Dark Souls Trilogy, Bloodborne, Sekiro. Super difficult DLC for some of those. Everyone knows exactly what these games are about and still demand is huge.

Most games that imitate their style seem to be quite well received. Nioh being a particular example.

Despite their games being known for not having great performance and not having the best graphics and other bells and whistles there is still massive hype for the next one.

This is all so much that Elden Ring is probably the biggest announcement at E3.

The gaming community is crying out so badly for these games that a new one every few years comes with massive hype and yet you have this small group of entitled gamers all but demanding that these games should change to avoid "gatekeepting".

Its mental.

So... You never talked with casual gamers eh?

Most people that play on easy just want to push forward and win.

Its mental.

People need to grow a spine and stop using 'gatekeeping' as a negative. Gatekeeping your games and hobbies is 100% desirable to avoid them being destroyed by outside influence.

Personally i think the game is really well designed in terms of difficulty, its not hard and its not easy its just good challenging for the first time, after you know the ins and outs its a lot easier.
With that said i have no problem if they add an easy mode for the game for people who cant play them in their normal original difficulty. Just on condition that they add it without taking anything from the original mode. Just add a mode in the main menu called easy mode and when you press on it the game tells you this is NOT how the game is intended to be played. The reason im fine with adding easy mode this way is that it doesnt harm or hurt my gaming experience in any way, more people can play it so good for them.
