Horizon Forbidden West - PS5 vs PS4 vs PS4 Pro - Can Cross-Gen Deliver For All Gamers? (DF)

Visually a lot…

Speaking in a purely technical manner a lot of games have better image quality in their 60fps modes, other games have RT and horizon doesn’t but in terms of just overall scene detail taking into account the open world nature… only rift apart beats it.
List one and use proof that doesn't say stuff like "well, the color palette is better" since you're full of shit and you know it.
See but at that point I was just stating my opinion and then the gasoline was poured and now here we are xD

Don’t worry this will be the last thread I poke my beak in.
Oh, we all know you're just interested in getting into these threads and annoying people that actually care about the game.

I already said ratchet and clank.

It’s got more polygons per object.

Its temporal injection upscaling method is the best in the business while Horizon is sub par even among checkerboarding techniques.

Ratchet actually uses ray tracing.

Nothing in horizon matches things like ratchets fur.

But that’s just technically. Overall there’s a lot of games.

Someone asked me what I didn’t like about the game’s art and “one” of my responses was color. The fact people got upset over that is sad.

The video is new.
The article is old and already posted on previous thread.

Both today video and old article are not related... old article is related with the old video posted in the other thread.

Short version: only the video is new content.

Can’t wait to play today after work! Quality mode looks to be the way to go. That clarity vs performance mode is huge. The PS4 version looks remarkably good for the hardware. Wizards at work there.

Which game looks better? I really don’t understand why you make a point to come in every HFW thread to shit on the game.
Because they supported a pre thread that was a lie… so now they need to continue the narrative.

Anyway Horizon 2 on PS5 4k30fps looks better than R&C.
1800p60fps not… it is too blurry with some effects tuned down.

Edit - The temporal injection used by Insommiac is way better than this CBR used by Guerrilha but native 4k trumps both.

That makes sense. Some people will do anything to save face, even if it makes them look even worse.

If you like it more, great. But what I said is verifiable.

What lie did I say? I don’t like the visuals is a lie? 😵‍💫

You even direct quote me saying the difference between PS4 and PS5 was very close lol
I mean it is relatively close in the same way that most cross gen stuff is relatively close aside from resolution and performance.

Even more so now that I see how solid ps4 performance is.

Maybe this is a misunderstanding because the resolution difference (except ps4 pro to ps5 performance mode) and fps difference is big, but the overall look isn’t that far.

But it is not.
And it is not just resolution… everything is tuned down on Pro plus there missing features and effects… it is a complete different game profile.

You even said the difference is smaller than CoD PS3 to CoD PS4… man Ghosts barely looked better than last CoD on PS3.

This Horizon 2 jump is some of the biggest we saw in a cross-gen game this generation.

I said advanced warfare not ghosts.

Look I say the same thing about resident evil cross gen, sackboy crossgen etc… games that I like and both of which have reduced settings on ps4 but in the grand scheme of things it’s not a huge difference beyond fps and resolution ; i’m not singling out horizon here.

Comparing an open world title like HFW to either of those titles is inherently invalid, in addition to your general implication that they're both better looking games being wrong.

The added moss and peach fuzz is nice, higher res textures effects and better draw distance is nice, similar to high end PC enhancements.

Real time Gi and more foilege + geometry would really distinguish it as a current gen version though.
what more do you want? have you even played it yet? the amount of details is overwhelming my eyes can't keep track of all of them. it looks so much detail with different things. RT GI is overrated, this game has lighting, which has almost on par with Metro Exodus or cyberpunk for outdoor. the only difference is in indoor lighting, it still looks shit.

So was NX Gamer (I think it was his analysis) wrong about the PS4 version being checkerboarded??

He seems to get some major thing wrong in pretty much every video I watch. Or at least he disagrees with DF.

It's hard to say, to be honest, but I'm not even sure NXGamer and DF are getting different results this time (DF mentions VRS and checkerboard rendering on PS4 platforms, Minute 3:30 of the video, and at 18:34 John mentions he thinks the game uses DRS on PS4, so they both are saying basically the same) . We should wait for VGTech, whose resolution metrics are usually the most accurate, but last comparison they did (Diying Light 2) DF was the one who got wrong results when it comes to resolution. This time there clearly something going on (NXGamer thinks it might be dynamic rez, DF thinks it's a form of VRS on Pro and PS4 on top of checkerboard rendering and dynamic rez).

Pixel counting has become really tough these days (TAA and reconstructions techniques make it almost impossible at times) and sometimes DF o NXGamer have to wait for a camera cut, because they just can't know the rez for sure.

So much fascinating info in this.

Pre-rendered clips on PS4?
Higher geometric detail?
Draw distance?
The low vs high res assets?

Guerilla Games actually made tons of dedicated PS5 upgrades, I’m actually very surprised there are so many differences between the two.

The VRS + CBR on PS4 really shows they squeezed every little bit out of that GPU, it’s crazy!

Still looks absolutely phenomenal

I agree that it does look phenomenal. I thought the ps4 version was going to look a lot worse honestly. Even though it does look phenomenal, I'm still left thinking what if this was soley made for the ps5. Would the crowds be denser, would you get attacked by even more machines, and etc.

Having finished the game earlier today on PS4, I can confirm that only 2 cut-scenes in the game are video files, you can tell immediately cause Aloy reverts to the default costume you start the game with instead of whatever getup you have her in.

Only the intro, and one pivotal action scene with a lot of explody shit the PS4 probably couldn't handle without significant performance dips.
