Have you ever "skipped" a console generation?

Skipped a console generation before?

I missed out on the PS4 generation because I just had other things going on and wasn't really into gaming at the time.

Yes, this one. I guess I got lucky when you couldn't buy a PS5 for the longest time. That made me disinterested in the generation, helped with PS5 being complete ass. Very thankful for GFN. It's all I've needed.

Not a whole generation, but I skipped Xbox, 360, and N64. I don't even think I paid attention to Xbox until that Xbox One announcement. N64 I played at friends houses but I couldn't have multiple consoles as a kid.

It was this current gen. Due to covid, chip shortages, console shortages, and my migration to just be PC full time, I ended up skipping it. I did save money for a ps5 but never got into any sites random lotteries, so I just moved on.

It did feel sad in the sense I had so many memories, made so many friends, and even just it being a big entertainment event I loved every few years in my life and always with loved ones.
Looking at it now, I didn't miss anything outside of the Demon's Souls remake, but I still had that empty feeling like the last day of school, either going to high school or finishing up completely, knowing you'll likely not see all your friends again or everyone will naturally just grow apart. A new console was part of my life since I was child and not getting into this gen was an odd experience. Not to be dramatic :messenger_squinting_tongue:

I stopped after the PS3/X360/Wii generation. If you want to be pedantic, the 3DS was my last handheld console.

Afterwards, it's been PC ever since. Tried out a few Switch games from friends but I never bought one.

I skipped N64, Saturn, PS1 and PS2 because of the primitive, ugly 3D graphics. Got into console gaming again with the PS3 when it looked half-decent.

Also got the GameCube eventually, and then the Wii. So the N64 is the only Nintendo console I've skipped, hated that thing when it was new and still do. It has aged like sour milk.

Skipped an Entire generation? No.
But I've already dropped Xbox (again), and if Sony is truly going the anti-consumer route then I'm out.

No way in hell am I paying $1000+ just for the privilege to be reamed by Sony. They can miss me with that. I'd sooner go the PC route, where I at least have Options.

Yesz i skipper current gen. I sat on my PS4 Pro for a long time, waited for Sony to announce the 5 Pro and i got priced out. Not that i can't affird one - i just din't want to pay that much for a console.

Now with what Sony is prepping for next gen (Xbix probably too) i just peace out and go retro and pc indie.

Fuck em

I'm done with gaming after this gen. Last FFVII Revelation, after that done. Diminishing returns anyways, have a PS5 Pro, what will a PS6 bring?!

So far I haven't. Always got a console for a few exclusives here and there. Hardly ever gotten one at launch, though. No need when your main platform has always been PC.

I've skipped consoles for the last 15 years, ever since I sold my Xbox 360 in 2010 to go full PC. But I grabbed a PS5 a couple of months ago when they announced the price increase. Figured it was finally time to jump back in for GTA 6 and a few exclusives I'd been missing out on.

The N64's blurry textures were an eyesore, eh?
Everything about it was. Coming from the glorious, perfect pixel art of the SNES to the blurry, low-poly horrible mess that was the N64 graphics along with horrible controls was rough for me. Hated that thing and have never gotten any enjoyment out of it.

I just couldn't believe how anyone could consider it an improvement.

If there was a generation in-between the Intellevision and the NES, that is the only time I would have skipped.
I have owned every Sega Console except the GameGear, every Nintendo console except the Virtual Boy and WiiU, every Playstation console and portable, and the first 2 Xboxes.

SNES (MOM BOUGHT ME, USED)
PSX (N64, SOLD OUT) FATHER GOT ME.
DELL DESKTOP (PARENTS GOT ME)
DREAMCAST
PS2 SLIM/XBOX/GAMECUBE
XBOX 360/XBOX 360 SLIM
GAMING PC (ASSEMBLED MYSELF 2006/2010)
XBOX ONE X (WON, TACO BELL CONTEST)
XBOX SERIES X
MIDTIER "GAMING" LAPTOPS
PS5 PRO (GOT FOR $367 OR SO AFTER DISCOUNTS *NEW* made thread about it here not long ago giving ppl a heads up)

That's my gaming history I believe. In order.

Never skipped a generation but skipped a few consoles. My console cycle is something like this.

NES
Super NES/Mega Drive
PS1/Saturn/N64
Dreamcast/PS2
GameCube
PS3/Wii
PS4/Switch
PS5/Switch 2

Not gonna continue with Playstation 6 and if Nintendo decides to not continue with the Switch brand I'll probably skip them too, unless they produce something I can't resist (and is BC with Switch cartridges). I'll probably always buy their handhelds though, since I'm a big fan of portable play and owned every Nintendo handheld except DS (got a Vita instead).

During the past several years I've invested in PC so it's a fallback if Nintendo lets me down but for now I'm Switch 2 exclusive with some PC gaming on the side.

Skipped the whole PS2/Xbox/GameCube generation. Played PS1 until the end of 2004. The last game I bought for the system was probably FIFA 2005. Support was terrible compared with what the PS2 got. PS1 was already outdated by the time I got it in 2002, but as a kid, it was the only console I could afford. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if, instead of PS One, I had bought Dreamcast, which, in 2002, was actually slightly cheaper than PS One. Didn't know about Saturn and thought it belonged to the same generation as PS1.

ps360, by that time i had gaming pc and between that and chasing tail i simply had not enough time to play on console, luckily by now many of ps360 games have last gen or even current gen ports so i grandually played more and more of those amazing games(still got quite a few of them in my backlog, for example great rdr remaster and demons souls remake).

We had the sega master system, nes, snes, ps1, ps2, n64, xbox, xbox360, ps3, gamecube, xbox one s(?), ps4, ps5, and the xbox one series x. We did get some of the handhelds but mostly my family just skipped most of the sega consoles. I want to say we had an atari because it looks familiar. For the longest time I thought the sega master system was an atari since I never could remember what that console was but I could remember what it looked like. I'm probably not skipping the ps6 but realistically I've pretty much skipped the xbox one and series X. I bought like 2 games for the xbox one which was I believe the halo collection and sunset overdrive but never even played the games. I just used it to watch like maybe 2 or 3 4k movies. My xbox one series x hasn't been even opened up yet and I won that console. I'll hook it up eventually. Hey, maybe for that gears of war game. I thought it looked really good.

I skipped gen 5 and 6 completely, abandoned 7 very fast and basically didn`t use gen 9 despite having the hardware. Gen 10 will be another complete skip, especially now after they got rid of physical media.

Not since I started gaming on the Amstrad CPC 464 (Colour even)

First gen i haven't bought a PlayStation though. Damn I miss Gran Turismo

If missing is: not buying at all, WiiU. It was way more expensive, even when was basically established that the console was dead

Hut I never bought a Saturn because it was expensive as hell and didn't have games here

- Mega Drive sold
- SNES still working
- PSX with my brother
- N64 working
- Saturn was a full pass
- Dreamcast dead
- PS2 is with my brother
- original Xbox sold
- Game Cube sold
- DS dead
- 360 died, so I sold to scrapyard
- PS3 I needed to sold because I crashed my car, but I got another later annnnnd broke it
- Wii dead video
- 3DS still going
- Wii U skipped
- PS4 sold
- Xbox One is with my folks
- Switch sold
- PS5 with my brother
- Series X dead
- Switch 2 rocking

Most of the dead things are from sea humidity. Can't argue with nature

Yeah I think I always had a Console in every generation since Nintendo. Anyway, I'm not skipping for the foreseeable future.

People mad about PS6 without any concrete info. We will all buy into it one way or another.

ATARI
NES
SNES/GENESIS
N64/PS1
XBOX/PS2/GCN
Wii/360/PS3
PS4/Switch
Switch 2 / XBOX Series

I never owned: Saturn, Dreamcast (although I wanted one), Wii U, Xbox One or PS5

No.

I owned Commodore 64, an Amiga 500 then an Amiga 1200. I owned an imported Genesis (Megadrive), Saturn (briefly) and Dreamcast. I've owned every Nintendo console since the N64 and I've owned every Xbox since the original.

Will not be buying Xbox Project Helix, Xbox just holds no interest for me any more when I can buy the few games it has on PC, and I will not be buying the PS6; the annoucement that Sony were killing physical media killed all interest in that console.

Technically I guess I skipped NES? I played my first ever video game super Mario bros 3 at a kids house that my parents knew his parents.

I then had a Genesis and every gen after.

It's my hobby so I don't see why I would gimp myself enjoyment.

Mmm lets see:

Super old stuff i was covered with commodore 64 or the console that only had pong and the controller with the wheel
8 bit i had the sega master system 2 plus
16 bit i had the snes
32 bit i had both saturn and ps1
64 bit wasnt really an era
128 bit i had all the big 3, no dreamcast
Next one i had ps4 and xone and sw1
Current one i have a pro

I guess i was there for every gen.

Was pc only before 2014 when i switched to ps5. Was missing out on too many games. I did start out on atari 2600 and Gameboy tho plus had a neighbour had all games and consoles lol.

I have always found a way to get a console, at the same time I've really neglected one console for another, how good was that console war between 360/ps3/wii and than going into the PS4 dominated generation, ps5/series x/switch generation I think has people skeptical about buying consoles anymore.

Haven't missed one since the gen I started with (NES).

I could have done with out a PS5 and I think I'll pass on 6 at this point. Not because of physical media shit though.
