"Maps? Fortunately we have a product if you want maps. And that's called MCC..."

Good old Don Mattrick. That line will be meme'd for as long as the Xbox brand exists.

Mr Reasonable

Completely Unreasonable
I think 343 have put out some good stuff. I have defended them every time on the basis that I loved Halo 4s campaign. Loved Halo 5s multi. Infinite: great campaign and multiplayer. BUT not enough maps. Everyone knew that, but the understanding was that they'd be constantly adding new content, both maps for multi and more campaign too. All good.

This roadmap has destroyed my goodwill towards them.

What the actual fuck have they been doing for 6 months? Like, what have the people who design maps been doing? Honestly! This is ridiculous. One arena map. We don't play BTB so the new maps are actually one map.

This is Xbox's biggest franchise, are 343 trying to kill it? Microsoft invested so heavily in Halo that there's a TV slow! The budget and avaliable resources must be insane, and all the developers can deliver in 6 months is a single arena map.

People should be getting fired over this.

2 Maps and 3 modes, literally just play MCC as it provides more content, seriously they have messed up huge here.

I work in the esports industry and heard some big teams might pull their brand from HCS due to this as their players are just burnt out already with minimal content.

This isn't good atall.
That's exactly what I'm doing now. I will play season 2 for a few weeks and then hop back on the MCC.

343i has had 10 years with Halo. At every turn and every chance they’ve gotten worse and worse. I have zero faith in the franchise going forward unless someone else takes over. It’s really disappointing to me more than anything, because the Halo series under Bungie was/is my all time favorite.

Bonnie Ross has to had a million lawsuits about Microsoft being sexual pests etc. there is no way she could hold on without that. She brings nothing to the table and obviously as the head can’t bring in good talent or a vision forward.

She's definitely got dirt on someone or has some kind of connections. There's no way she has that job based on the work she's done.

Currently playing through the Master Chief collection (@ Halo2). Never played the 343 games...they actually made the game worse??

I think Last Spartan Standing will have legs enough to carry it to a sort of relaunch in November, especially considering Forge will be in open beta in September.

Still having a blast. Not worried.

The launch was great, majority opinion was that gameplay was tight and fun, and people were getting tired of the copy/paste jobs from COD and Battlefield. Had 343i been ready to deliver a steady dose of content from the beginning, Halo Infinite could have been the go-to FPS game of the generation. Instead, the game is on its last legs as die-hard fans are left starving for new content. Sad times.

I’m not surprised that they managed to burn all this good will so quickly. Beginning to look like the enjoyable elements of the campaign were a fluke. Now it’s just back to regular 343 stuff.

IMO, from a technical and communicative standpoint yes. Halo 4 and 5 had *okay* story lines. Infinite was just straight up incomplete.

My gripes and disdain mostly come from the MP side of things.

Yeah. It's no longer a marquee franchise because they gave it to 343 who proceeded to make bad games out of it.
As i recall Bungie wanted Halo to end after Halo 3 they don't want to make Halo anymore but was force to make ODST & Reach thus
causing the split from Microsoft in the first place it was all downhill for Halo after Halo 3
cause it was suppose to end at 3 anyways it was going downhill even before 343 ever touch Halo

Halo 4 could have been so damn good. It had all the makings of a great Halo story, but they hid the most important info behind books, comics, and other extraneous media. Halo 5 tripled down on this, while also having a rushed and poorly designed campaign in general. Halo Infinite is, as you said, straight up unfinished. It can't be debated any other way.

While you're right that they didn't want to make any more after 3, they at least put in effort when they worked on ODST and Reach. ODST was solid enough that it gained its own cult-like following and Reach, despite getting a lot of negativity at the start, was turned around by Bungie with performance patches and map updates. Now-a-days, you'll hear people list Reach as one of the best Halo games of all time, mostly because they weren't there for the bumpy launch.

And if nothing else, Bungie actually cared about supporting these games after they launched in a timely fashion. Even if they didn't want to keep making them, they kept working on delivering quality material with robust community support. Bungie used to provide weekly updates, near-immediate after-match reports, periodic heat maps for each map so the community could see where and why they were making changes to certain map elements, et cetera.

343 hasn't done any of that across all three mainline games and the MCC complication. Halo didn't start going downhill until Halo 4 and 343 tried to reinvent the wheel. They discarded almost everything that made the Bungie games successful (and don't forget they originally recast the entire voice cast, including Master Chief and Cortana, but backpedaled after beta testers complained). 343 has been out of their depth since Halo 4 and they've only gotten worse as time has gone by. They have not learned from any of their past mistakes, their story telling has not gotten better, their community engagement and update timeframes have not improved.

Every Halo that has come after Halo 3 has been worst then Halo 3 it really should have ended like Bungie want it to end
I stand by that let Halo end it time Xbox now has so many franchise that they don't need to keep making and milking Halo
Bungie the creator is no longer apart of Halo the fans keep saying that Halo is shit now but keep wanting more
it time to let it die no more Halo after Infinite

I wonder if MS even cares about Halo anymore. They've got Doom and Call of Duty now. They can afford to sit back and let 343 work out the kinks. Like MCC, they might get there eventually.

all Halo needs is a good dev team. and it didn't have one since Reach, and even Reach was only made by Bungie's B team while the main bulk of the devs worked on prototyping Destiny and modifying their engine to support the open spaces and online functionalities of Destiny.

the big issue nowadays is that ever developer tries to go with the trends in spite of what is best for the franchise they work with

The fact that Halo still has a sprint button and clamber is evidence of that as coming up with other ways to make Halo feel more modern is harder than to just copy what other games do.

so no, Halo doesn't need to "end", it simply needs a team that isn't shit

Pretty crazy that if MS had just let them move on to Destiny they’d still be a MS first party and would have a game in Destiny that is now more popular than Halo. That was one hell of a dumb dumb move from MS.

That is not the issue that Halo has. Sprint/clamber isn't why the game is in the state that it is. Halo could adopt other modern elements and be fine if the key issues being highlighted weren't there (e.g. lack of content, no new maps, etc.)

And don't you all have other games you can put your time into while 343 gets their plan together? I mean, yeah it surely sucks but they haven't given any signs of giving up on it just yet.

I've always wondered if Bonnie and Phil have something going on because she keeps failing upwards. It makes no sense.

Also they should have entire teams working on maps before the game even released. And here we are 6 months later with 1 arena map. Like wtf were people doing? They barely have any decent cosmetics either. Charging $5 for 1 shitty visor color and other worthless overpriced shit. It's frustrating because the potential for Infinite was\is huge if they could get their shit together.

2 maps lol
And it’s 1 map for arena, 1 map for big team. So if you only play one or the other you are getting 1 new map.
Is that confirmed? Is there no other content being added? Battle royal? Single player stuff?

I ain’t up on halo and only really played ther single player
Yes. And they are ‘adding’ a few game modes like King of the Hill that should have been there at launch. Single player stuff is all slated for ‘end of season 2 and beyond’ - mission replay and campaign co-op.

This has been a disasterclass in managing a content pipeline.

Everyone wats Gaas, because they are more profitbale then making a whole new game and theres a lot of mtx potential, but it feels like very few companies are properly equipped to handle that kind of long tail support. If the 343 wasnt up to the task, then why release a “service” game? Was it an excuse to release a product that was somehow still unfinished after 6 years in development?

This was supposed to be a 10 year plan, I don't see how you can recover from this, damage is already done. They keep tripping up like this, there will be no audience left worth developing for.
I guess they are betting on GamePass growth. The game is there so if GP brings new players they will eventually download it and play. It is a bit sad to be honest… The gameplay is awesome. The only downside I see is the AI (seems worse than previous iterations) and the lack of content for both SP and MP.

6 months seasons are long.
Don't have to be 3, but 4 should be the goal.

We'll 343 just isn't a top developer like GGG, Epic or Rare, so they're just not able to deliver that I guess
Rare took a while to hit their stride with sea of thieves and now the game is seen very positively.
I would like to think by season 3 or 4, 343 will have their Halo seasons together.

I also wonder if they are spread a little thin?

Stuff we know is being worked on:
Halo Infinite: the endless expansion.
New maps/modes
Forge (what looks really impressive from the leaks)
New cosmetics/battle pass/events
Adding co op/split screen (what is probably a headache for them)
Multiplayer story content (honestly not sure what this means)

I'd prefer more and at a quicker pace, but who wouldn't, but I'm also happy to play other games whilst I wait.

while it might not be a big issue itself, the fact that Sprint and Clamber are in the game is a symptom of why they suck as developers.
they are chasing trends without thinking about how to make Halo different and unique. "just make it play like every othr shooter" is basically their objective.
not only that, apparently early during development they even were not entirely sure if they should go back to weapon loadouts again... which is alarming that this was even discussed at all

also, Halo Infinite will basically be dead by the time they finally finished it if the trajectory doesn't do a complete 180

Not sure that will happen after they virtue signaled her hard on stage, right after she was catching flack for their initial showing and delay.

Oh I know. Microsoft leadership would have to claim their balls back from the woke mafia for Bonnie to rightfully be fired for incompetence.

Opinions such as this are also poison to the franchise. Sprint and Clamber are fine and you don't technically have to use them and I believe you can turn clamber off. Also Halo Infinite is the most refined when it comes to gameplay. The only glaring issue is lack of maps, modes, and free armor, all of which are slowly arriving. Outside of this I can 100% guarantee that this game has 1000% more maps than Fortnite.

I will be excited for COOP in August, and all the new Armor. I also only play in waves and don't have time to play a ton, so my needs are met.

343 wishes that were as efficient and competent as Rare. Rare had a GAAS/MMO solid content drop game plan in place before Sea of Thieves was even released. There was never a big content drought. The first big content drop for SoT was eight weeks after launch.

This is what Rare released for SoT in the the first six months:
-The Hungering Deep (Adventue/Raid content, Megalodons)
-Skeleton Thrones (Skeleton Thrones and Bilge Rats Adventures)
-Gunpowder Skeletons (New Enemy & Another Bilge Rats Adventure)
-The Sunken Curse (Another Bilge Rats Adventure)
-Crused Sails (Campaign and added Skeleton Fleets to the game)
-Curses Crews (Bilge Rats content and cursed cannonballs)

Rare also added a whole new area of the map, The Forsaken Shores, seven months after launch, with tons of content.

Bonnie Ross needs to go on a temporary career enhancing detail to Rare to see how things are done.

Another sad stat for 343 is that more people are playing SoT on Steam right now than Infinite and MCC combined. I also predict that in a couple of months, Infinite will drop below SoT on the Xbox charts.

Halo Infinite needs a reboot at this point.

I personally thought the sea of thieves content for launch was pretty poor (it was literally skeletons carrying gunpowder barrels with commendations tied to them)

The meg one was pretty cool, but after doing it once I never wanted to do it again, I found a lot of the commendations an absolute headache to get down as it usually required another crew.

I personally feel like the year one update is what massively improved the game myself. (But I guess others enjoyed content updates prior)

This MS mess up so bad with that one letting Bungie go & losing Destiny as a potential massive 1st party IP
It ironic that now Sony owned Bungie & Destiny lol

Halo as the original 1st person shooter game in my opinion need to end
When even the original creator of the franchise don't want to work on it anymore
you know it time to end it & giving the game to other devs won't fix it

There are so many Halo games made already the ideas have run it course
a game franchise has to know when to call it quits before it gets run into the ground
that is what happening with Halo

Many past great game franchise only had 1 or 2 games and they were great but they don't make anymore
cause they know if you keep making more and more sooner or later it will get stale
that is what Halo has become stale & out of ideas

So i say this as a OG Halo fan end it it time to move on
with new ideas and games stop living in the past success of Halo

Maybe it's not the issue, but at the very least it made most of the Bungie-era players abandon the franchise. Clamber and sprint greatly impacts map design and gameplay fluidity. The bungie games were very nuanced. Very different from most shooters out there.
