Halo Infinite is really hard to aim on controller, am I the only one?

feels great for me

took me a minute to remember to aim with the left stick not the right (well, not exactly thats simple, but the idea is to strafe your target into your sights, not use the right stick to aim for them). obviously you dont do that all the time, but its an essential move if you get into a shoot out with someone in halo

but naw man, aiming feels great. especially coming form back 4 blood where to aiming feels like shit
I have been watching some videos, and I can see a Doom Eternal influence. What are your thoughts veK veK?

Incan’t understand how I, a PC fps player primarily, can manage to kill people if the controls are so bad. Then again I am not expecting autoaim - and I always sucked at COD on console. :D

I have a base Xbox One and I'm using the Xbox series X controller and I'm finding it really hard to aim while playing Halo infinite. Is it because I'm playing at 30 FPS? Am I the only one who finds it really hard to aim on controller? I found the aiming to be very good on Halo 5 which was a 60 FPS game but I also found the aiming to be pretty good on Halo 4 which was 30 FPS so I don't understand why it feels so bad on Halo infinite? I mean the aiming feels so wonky I can't hit anyone.

Keep in mind Destiny is a 30 FPS game on Xbox One and aiming in that game feels solid. 343i has had six years to work on Halo infinite this is ridiculous!
Brother, I've been playing FPS since Wolf3D, and it is beyond me how ANYONE aims accurately and quickly in a fast FPS, like Halo, with goddamn thumbsticks. Best I can do is strafe them into my sights, still sucks compared to mouse.

Strafing is the only way I can aim well, using thumbsticks. Good god I'm glad more console games are starting to allow mice.

Why use controller on PC? Just for the aim assist? I know A LOT of people use controller on PC for warzone/cod because the aim assist is OP.. is Halo similar?
Some people just like it better. I use an elite 2 controller for most PC games myself (NOT for FPS though, I'm not a heathen).

Yes but console still at a big disadvantage. Cross-play is one of the worst trends in the industry. It's a win for PC players and developers who now don't have to worry about low PC populations. While you can opt out as a console player, you will then have to deal with lower populations as the default is to have cross play enabled. Gaming co.panies have also been heavily marketing crossplay as some kind of win win when its not.
Oh nonsense. Crossplay is great. For 20 years, many console users have claimed thumbsticks are superior, now they can finally attempt to prove it. Besides, more and more console games are allowing m+kb. I have my PC hooked up to the living room tv, console style. With a wireless m+kb, comfy couch PC gaming is easy-peasy. So they can do the same with consoles after they discover thumbsticks are shit compared to a mouse (for fast FPS games). It's nice to have such a larger player base with crossplay. Plus, good enough auto-aim can make up the difference for mouse advantage.

That is a rubbish argument unless you back the "thumbsticks are superior" people arguments with hard statistics on people claiming it to be superior.

Many times while winning a 1 v 1 battle another enemy teammate will fire from out of your line of site or throw a long range grenade. I’m no pro by any means but the most basic rule of Halo MP is when you spawn, find your teammates and stick with them.

I crush the game on PC and falter on Series X. Using the same Elite Controller

I can’t explain it but something is weird.
That's because your skills on controller have begun to atrophy, put the settings for controller on default and sit down and play on controller all day like at least 10 hours straight and you'll find it's pretty easy to aim on controller, if not then practice for a few days you'll see. I'm the op I was complaining about the controller but I sat down and played for 10 hours straight and at the end I felt like a laser I was mowing people down. I guess I just needed some practice.

Aim assist seems way too light. I’m finding it much harder to hit anything in Infinite than I do other Halos.
Hey it's me the op I finally figured out what's wrong, make sure the controller settings are on default and now sit down and play for 10 hours straight, I've been playing the game for a few days now and I think it just takes some getting used to because now I'm like a laser and I can just mow people down. It feels great now!

I've given the secret on here many times. Bots. Go practice with those bots on the default difficulty level. Learn to stop panicking just because you've spotted an enemy. Don't wildly swing or overreact with your right analog stick while emptying your whole clip.

I've even posted my perfect controller settings here before, and I hesitate to post them again cause I'd like to keep advantages for myself lmao, but here goes.

Move and Look Center Deadzones, set those to 0.
Move and Look Axial Deadzone, set those to 4.
Look Sensitivity Horizontal, set that to 8
Look Sensitivity Vertical, set that to 8
Move and Look Max Input Threshold, default, which should be 10.
Look Acceleration, default, which should be 2.

Once you have those settings what you have to learn is this. There's no harm in taking your time and slowly moving your right analog stick into place to line up an accurate shot on an enemy. What I learned about Halo from the bots and then from playing real players is that, though players immediately begin firing off entire clips, many more times than not it's a front and they don't properly have you in their sights yet. Or usually they didn't at the start, so the damage they're doing is actually significantly lessened by the fact they've been missing. Don't swing your right analog wildly or panic. Take your time to move it into place, and fire accurate shots, and don't shoot unless you're actually going to hit something. A lot of the fights or 2 to 3 kill streaks I get come from people who finished off their whole clip and are then sitting ducks to me because I made my shots count and didn't waste them all. It's hard to get into the mindset, but treat them more like campaign enemies. I was able to learn all this and get much better by playing the bots on the default difficulty.
Hey you still there? Listen I put the controller settings on default and I've been playing the game for a few days now, today I sat down and played for about 10 hours total in between breaks, as they say practice makes perfect because now I felt like a laser and I was just mowing people down. It felt like Halo of ye' old! I've been playing Halo since the first one and I used to be like a laser and I could just own people, it felt just like that after playing for 10 hours straight, so I think it just takes some getting used to.

Believe it or not your recommended settings made it more accurate when I was first starting out, even though it actually makes it feel more janky. What I'm saying is your recommended settings really just makes it feel janky, like not tight feeling but janky feeling. Trust me put it on default and just sit down and game for hours until it feels natural because that just happened to me today, I had a breakthrough and all of a sudden it felt like Halo of old to me, so I guess there's nothing wrong with the default controls after all you just need to play until you get used to it. So since I'm used to the default controls now I could never go back to your recommended settings.

Like every Halo game you have to tweak it. Thankfully they give you a lot of options in settings to get it just right. Personally, I had no problem with just the default settings.
I've been playing all Halo's since the first one and this is the first time I have to adjust the controls. I agree with OP, it feels off.

Yeah the aiming was pretty bad for me too. Then I went on YouTube and found a video about decent controller settings in the game.

I messed around with the dead zone and acceleration and now for me at least it is good

Look sens. 6 - wtf

Acceleration = Max
Sens. = 2 or 2.5 (depending on how often you need to reacquire your target)
Max input threshold = 15%

Try them out in the range

You may not be the only one, but I think the group of folks that may share that feeling is extremely small. I know a number of folks said it's weird with KB&M and that controller felt better.

Haven't done my own testing, because I don't care enough about this game, but that video shows clear bullet magnetism from a previous build. You can still miss shots, obviously, it's not magic.

There's absolutely no way you play modern FPS games and can honestly say they don't have aim assist. For every keyboard/mouse player, there are eight controller players in these games. The last no-bullshit game that released was PUBG.

one of the funky things is during the training bullet magnet and aim assist (on controller at least) appears to be present, but if you load up multiplayer both of these appear to be missing even the aim assist on controller. The options shown in the video to turn them on and off appear to be absent now from the settings menu as well so they seem to be controlled automatically.

The default settings are terrible IMO, just turn down all the acceleration, deadzones etc. to 0 and play just with the sensicity setting alone.

Hey it's me the OP, so when I first played the game yes I felt the aiming was really bad, but I have always played Halo with the default controller settings and all the previous halos felt fine so I was confused why Halo infinite would all of a sudden feel bad. I've been playing the game for days now and yesterday I sat down and played for 10 hours straight, and by the end of it I was like a laser just mowing people down, so put the controller settings on default and just keep playing till you get used to it, I hated it at first but now I think the default settings are fine it just takes some practice.

Compared to what?
Compared to COD, Destiny and Apex? Yeah the shooting feels like ass.

But compared to other Halo games? It feels about the same.

I dropped the dead zones and up all.the sensitivities to Max. Made it more enjoyable

Not anymore it seems. Much improved. Also, try to preemptively get your cursor near your target and strafe instead of correcting your shot. Also go a low as possible with your sense and build your way up

people on PC have been saying the opposite, they say that controller assists give you an advantage

so you probably just need to get used to it or maybe your TV has a delay

You might wanna change settings on your thumb sticks. I used their suggestions as a guide and further edited values for deadzones and feels much better now.

This. Coming from an old-school m+kb Quake addict, this is the only way I can aim with any success with dual thumbsticks. By the time dual thumbsticks became a thing, m+kb was too ingrained in me for It to ever feel natural.

Am I the only person being pared with idiots. It's making the game really frustrating. I'm only on gold but by now you'd think people would know you need to get the ball/skull on oddball and protect the person on your team with it

I think it should be easier to aim. And should work with default settings.

I don't want to use any precision weapon cause I will miss too much.

Maybe I got older but I also remember being easier in the early games.

Just had a nice ranked game where I had 68.5% accuracy. You can get used to the lesser aim assist.

Do you exactly compare it to mouse and keyboard or just to other shooter games ? Cause I can relate to playing multiple different shooter games and tell it's safe to say these shooter games "not just halo and it's not the first halo btw" are older and genuine tbh , easy aim is new to the gaming industry and I don't mean in the last decade or so , I mean hard aim was there before easy aim exist, if it's not your type then I don't blame you if you started from 5 or even 4 cause they just play like cod and I despise them for the sake of the trilogy and reach.

It's built for PC from the ground up now, controllers have less aim assist these days due to crossplay. KB+M has been heavily catered for with Infinite and matchmaking. Change the default settings and relearn what works for you. I go low acceleration and low deadzones with mid sensitivity. I liked 3-4 sensi in the old Halos though. Aim with your strafe as much as possible and work to have your reticule at cheat height during all movements e.g. when approaching stairs or corners or jumps try to get into the subconscious flow of always being ready to aim where an enemy chest is most likely going to be when you start firing. It's a big deal. This is also a game of peek and shoot, stay near cover or die. Your choice.

that is not really an issue, the real issue is that aim assist is literally broken and sometimes just turns off randomly, leading to ridiculously inconsistent aiming.
one second your aim will literally stick to your enemy's ass like a tick and a second later it will be completely gone randomly.

Yes I agree with that, both our comments are occurring. Controllers due to crossplay are missing a ton of aim assist now and after 20 years of it controller players need to relearn with less aim assist. It is also true there is some weird "randomness" to the current aiming. I've personally seen it short of jump and for me it almost always appears to jump up and left during aiming with the right thumbstick. It feels like too many inputs at once can cause a jump in reticule aiming.

I already play mostly games with relatively low aim assist (compared to old Halo) so I honestly don't give a damn about that.
it really is the inconsistencies and ESPECIALLY the fucking unavoidable aim acceleration that piss me off from time to time.

the bullet magnet is still OP as fuck, which is why I switched to controller from Mouse... some weapons really only are viable on controller (the Sidekick being the poster child of what bullet magnetism does to your gun)

You're so full of shit.

You bitch about the lack of settings when there are actually MORE setting than the vast majority of shooters. Also, aim assist in Infinite is very low compared to most shooters, and even previous Halo games, and magnetisim is almost non existent on consoles. It's actually only strong on the PC when you reduces the dead zones due to a bug.

You are also 100% making up the fact that controller users average 15% better accuracy than M/kb.

Stop sucking and you won't gave to keep making excuse for why you are terrible.

Input in this game seems a bit screwed ATM. On PC Kb+M is all kinds of unreliable so I've switched to controller for the time being. Even then there are issues.

I would beat you in a 1 on 1 every day.
and AS I ALREADY SAID, I have no issue KILLING PEOPLE, having the opinion that the aiming feels like shit is NOT THE SAME as saying it is hard to hit poeple. i switched to controller BECAUSE IT IS OP, which is a fact.
It sill feels like shit, but I have to use it because it makes the game 10x easier.

and I didn't make up any facts. it's simply true. hit accuracy on controller is substantially higher than on mouse, one of the reasons being that the bullet magnet negates a lot of the random bloom that sadly is a thing again in this game. the Sidekick on mouse is not spammable even on mid range targets... on controller I just hammer my right trigger and almost every bullet hits no matter the bloom.

you are the one who is full of shit, and I bet you never played on mouse either to have an actual comparison for yourself and are just one of those controller only players who get super defensive every time someone mentions aim assist being OP in Halo... which it is... in MCC and in Infinite.
They clearly toned it down a lot in Infinite but it's sill noticeable.

THIS IS A HEADSHOT ON CONTROLLER

literally... this aim = headhsot due to bullet magnetism. no other modern MP shooter I know has bullet magnetism btw except halo, so saying the aim assist is lower compared to other game is again, you being full of shit

and as long as Infinite's controller settings don't look like this 👇 , don't talk to me about being better than other shooters in the options:

The servers are inconsistent. The game will say you have 30ms of latency, and then you hit a back tap on an enemy with no shield, get the animation and the sound, without them dying. Very annoying.
