Nice job pulling shit from your ass. The game was going to launch next month. It can't be that far from completion at all. They're likely just fixing the things people complained about in the demo.
The game they showed looked like a piece of shit. You're on drugs if you don't think this gaming is getting a massive delay. You expect this to be out in Q1 2021? We haven't even seen any multiplayer footage. Be realistic. It was delayed for a reason and the reason wasn't "to iron out kinks". It needs a lot of work. The public have spoken on this game.

You need to go back and read the thread. People complained about the graphics and that was all. See you bud.

Stop pulling shit out of your ass. Bye bye.

What does Matt Booty do as head of first party? Will he have been involved in the games development ?
His job is really to make sure that the studios have what the need to succeed.

Do he and Phil assume some degree of blame? Perhaps. They probably should have gotten involved sooner. Conversely this might be the best thing to happen-if things are severely in disarray then maybe the studio gets the full physical exam it needs vs a bandaid.

At the end of the day 343 has messed up. I think we should judge Matt and Phil based on what they do to stop the ship from sinking vs. blaming them for it taking on water to begin with.

I would of went with some fortress building and weapon control. Widescale vehicle battles inspired by Diaclone Reboot vehicles, mech suits and armor that are multi-use. A base under construction and all the construction vehicles are useable, etc.

Still adding stuff to the game and "taking their time now they've got a delay". Don't let your fanboyism blind you, my friend. Something tells me that if you fire the game director, you're not happy with the direction the game is going in.

Wasn't he one of the last good ones at 343? If only it could have been Frankie, probably spends more time posting on REEEE than making the game.
He wasn't fired and still works for 343. With Joe Staten and Pierre Hintze taking over SP and MP respectively, the game should still be fine. Maybe Bonnie can actually do something besides accept awards for a change.

Good post. Yes there are times when things need to get worse before they can be better.

Quality control needs to be more consistent at Microsoft in a positive way, at the time of its showing one of my first thoughts was how they deemed this fit to show off considering the hype they generated that week leading up to it.

Covid-19 was used as a defence for its showing by some which I thought was poor and disingenuous. The game has been in development for a considerable time as has the XSX but the launch line up discussion is for another thread.

I hear the defences of the Phil and each to their own, I personally think he’s fortunate to get the love he does, if it’s sincere, that’s not excluding 343 either, it’s clear some need to look at themselves there.

If it ends up being a better game, a superb game after all this mess then credit to everyone concerned for doing so.

Y'all fucked up asking for nay demanding a dealy. Let it fail at the schedule launch date.

I have never seen a damn thing from a Halo that should take more than 3 years of development. You all turned a shitty game that would lead to massive change into development hell for the entire generation.

Seriously fuck 343 for not owning up. Their engine is clearly scribbled with crayon and their story telling is shit. Show your stuff, but they dont deserve more time.

I want to offer my comments re: Bonnie Ross as I feel she is being characterized a bit too harshly.

I have respect for Bonnie. She stepped up to the plate and took on Halo when Microsoft was considering farming it out to Gearbox. Microsoft needs a proper studio to care for Halo, not just outsourced games. She had a long career at Microsoft before taking the lead role at 343. She's been involved in a number of successful game projects and I don't want to discredit that.

She has a lot of enthusiasm for transmedia and merchandise. I think that she has spent too much time focusing on that and not enough time tending for the narrative and the FPS titles-the two most fundamental components of the series. 343 has put out dozens of books, toys, live action features, animated features, a handful of spinoff games, and other licensed content. Meanwhile the core FPS series has faded from relevance in the past decade.

She also has some different views on gender than I do. I support and agree with her that there are opportunities for women to get involved in the industry. Where I disagree with her is the idea that Halo is exclusionary because it appeals predominately to men. No amount of additional women creatives will get more women interested in Halo. Similarly no amount of male creatives will get me interested in Twilight. Men and women gravitate to different types of media and that is ok. I see where this has bled into the game's stories which have attempted to add a new roster of Spartans to make the game more inclusive. There has also been a big focus on Cortana's sexuality and her relationship with Chief. Halo, and Chief by extension were never exclusionary. The brilliance of Chief is that nearly anyone can self-insert. We do not need 10 new Spartans that take away from Cheif's story to make sure that people feel represented by the game. Halo can make everyone feel included without having to become the Justice League. These new elements have not brought new fans into the series but they have alienated older fans.

I seriously hope the best for Bonnie and I appreciate the fact that she stepped up to manage Halo when nobody else would. I don't know what state the series would be in without her. I also support her efforts to get women involved in the industry-I think it is important that gaming grow to reach new audiences. With that said, I think that her talents (she is a talented individual and has a long career to prove it) would best be suited in another role at Xbox. I'm not going to point at her and say she ruined Halo. It's not that simple and she's not that singularly powerful.

I think there is a lot of talent at 343; it is just a matter of making sure that people's talents and passions are matched with their roles. That is where I believe 343 has dropped the ball and why we haven't seen Halo thrive in the past decade.

WTF is going on at 343???
Seriously

i was one of the defenders of the reveal trailer (well, I half defended it lol... ok I didn’t really defend it at all, but I didn’t think it was as bad as everyone freaked out about). And people said that shit at 343 was bad but I just couldn’t fathom that being true

now it’s looking more and more like a giant dumpster fire over there. Wtf 343 get your fucking act together

Let’s no turn this into a Phil thread.

Jim Ryan doesn’t micromanage Naught Dog or Santa Monica. He trusts them to deliver great games. Phil does the same. Playground, Mojang, Turn 10, Rare all seem to be able to do that without Phil holding their hands. 343 is seemingly the outlier. When a studio fails to deliver then Phil and Jim need to make hard decisions. Let’s hope that is what is happening now.
Exactly. Micro manage or hands off. Can’t have fucking both.

I think that means that Halo Infinite is at an even worse state, that everyone thought. I am still pretty sure that Microsoft put a blind eye on the development until recently, when the backlash of the fans began and when they checked they recognized finely that the game is okay at best. I see 2 possibilities from here on:
1. Microsoft releases it 2021, but it will be not the masterpiece most people expected.
2. The game will not come out before 2022 and it has a chance to be a masterpiece.

I have 2.5 years of ultimate so eventually I'll download it.

2023 it is and I'll get it before Cyberpunk 2077 releases

Said this in June, 343 is a garbage studio and should shutdown.

MS bought bethesda just give halo to id Software.

I used to spend so many hours playing the four first Halos; and after the change of hands happened, I gave 4 its fair amount of time and then, without realizing it, I was out.

Who knows maybe it’ll be a good thing in the end. It’s too late for major changes now. Polish up what’s there and get it out there. I’m still hyped as hell for the game. It’s still more Halo. 343 nailed h5 multiplayer so I still have high hopes for this. Sometimes good things come out of a messy development. Movies, shows, games etc. Halo 2 was apparently a mess and that’s one of my favourite games of all time.

It's already dead, no matter how good the game is or could be it's got such a bad Rep now that no one will take it seriously.
Like Duke Nukem Forever, Daikatana and the myriad of other games thru the ages that had bad starts it will never hit the lofty goals it was hoping for.

It might even turn out to be fun, it simply has too much baggage to ever been taken seriously

The one thing it has on its side is a unique PvP. There's literally no hip based shooters left in this industry anymore. Valorant is first modern hip based shooter we've seen for...half a decade?

I'll always be drawn to PvP Halo simply cause there's almost no other choices out there if you want this style of gameplay.

I might argue that it's this way because that type of game simply isn't popular anymore.

I honestly hope they can rescue Halo, 3 was a fantastic fucking game but its clear to me that 343 just doesn't have the chops to rescue the franchise

I'm kinda baffled by how this is considered news. The problems started to reek from the moment they took over the Halo franchise. I blame Stinkles, he basically destroyed a good series. Even though I was a big Halo fan it took me years to force myself to finish Halo 4.

:messenger_grinning_smiling: Awesome! Best post of the day!

As a Halo fan, I actually love this news. More heads need to roll. Halo MCC was one of the worst launches in the history of video games and heads should of rolled then, but for whatever stupid reason, Microsoft didn't clean house. So we got the worst campaign in the franchise with Halo 5 and now the Infinite launch disaster. Hopefully Bonnie Ross is in her office playing Microsoft Solitaire, wondering what management is going to do with her. I seriously never want to see her take the stage promoting a Halo game ever again. Hopefully Joe Staten can work some Bungie magic and get the series back into shape.

There is so much sensationalism around this game it's kind of ridiculous.

I still hold out hope that it will be good, but the drama is getting tiresome.

I think the real issue is, they are being forced to make a game that will run on the Xbox one and scale up. I’m sure there are devs / people who disagree there and it’s making things hard.

Watching MS completely mismanage 343 and run Halo into the ground has been very instructive. I hope Bethesda realizes just who it is that acquired them. MS has a long legacy of buying studios, doing nothing with them, and then closing the studio. Even EA in their most infamous phase didn’t destroy as much talent as MS has.

Also watching 343 flailing around trying to make Halo of Duty and Halostiny has been pretty pathetic, just make another Halo for fuck’s sakes.

I'd say MS should take a hard, sobering look at 343 as a development studio but let's be serious, they never will. Not with the current leadership.

Lmfao. Yes, now's the perfect time -- you know, when the project is in limbo and unfinished.

Imagine being this dense.

You're usually a pretty terrible poster, so I'd normally consider this par for the course but this attitude is just next-level. This game was going to tank the Xbox launch and arguably kill the Halo series. Do you realize how shitty the game had to have been in order for them to completely alter a console launch?

Yes totally agree at both things. Phil thread and micro managing your fellow creative professional.

Its about bravely stepping up when things are not going well, and thankfully we seeing rapid changes at 343i and the game.

Gosh some of them are trying real hard to fling shit at Phil 🤷‍♀️
