Google says Stadia is "alive and well"

Developer marketing lead Nate Ahearn tells GamesIndustry.biz the platform is "alive and well."

"We're well on our way to over 100 new games launching on Stadia in 2021, and we're continuing to make Stadia a great place to play games on devices you already own," he says. "I'd tell any non-believers to take notice of how we're continuing to put our words into action, as we grow the Stadia Makers program and partner with AAA studios like Capcom, EA, Square Enix, Ubisoft and others."

When pressed for more information, Ahearn said Google was "focused on delivering value for our partners and on behalf of our players."

He pointed to the release of newer titles on the platform (such as last week's Resident Evil Village), the introduction of AAA hits like Resident Evil 7 and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order to the Stadia Pro subscription, and the ongoing addition of new features (the company introduced a search bar to Stadia).

Good for Google it’s not like there’s someone bigger than can just buy them like Onlive.

Stadia blink twice if you are going to be killed off by Google. -- If Stadia was alive they would treat it like Android and other services that they have currently running.

Make it like a Netflix mode subscription, I'll join.

PC's GPU price just unfortunately right now. Stadia is better graphics than my GTX 970.
I was going to recommend shadow pc but they're going bankrupt and don't have spots until october. smfh that was the best cloud service.

They must have both.

People like me only buy a few games and don't want sub, others like you want to play many games for a minimum price.

For the moment, none of the services available is perfect.

They've continued updating it with features and whatnot.

It's just not worth throwing hundreds of millions at games for them.

I bet they still think the concept will take off with consumers, and they don't want to not be ready.

They got bought by a company with deep pockets. The new owners say nothing will change except canceling shadow infinite subscriptions.

They are here to stay.

All the info is on shadows blog.

As for stadia. I think Google will close it eventually.

Same here such a great service. I had the Nvidia rtx 4k subscription for awhile on shadow. Until I canceled. Now that I know spots are limited until they reach full capacity, I subbed a few months ago.

Won't get activated until this July.

I hope they bring back more powerful cloud pcs in the future.

Erm. I mean I still worry about the exclusive thing. Was kinda pissed when I found out Judgement was ported to Stadia and not PC.

We may laugh now, but Google's got stupid money just like Microsoft and Amazon does.

They sort of have that with their Stadia Pro membership. I was on there for a few months, and they've been starting to grow a good library of games. They usually have around 20 to 30 games available at any given time. They'll add new games each month, but they also drop a few each month as well. Anything you "claim" through Stadia Pro stays on your account, and is accessible as long as you stay subscribed. I had access to nearly 60 games at the time I dropped my subscription (about 2 months ago).

I've been saying for a while that they need to grow this into a larger collection of games, like PlayStation Now or Xbox Game Pass. Amazon is a little closer to this with their Luna service, which has around 60 to 70 games (very few "big" games, though). I think they need to have a library of at least 100 games consistently available to subscribers at all times.

They must have both.

I agree. They need to do both.

Actually, at the moment, they are the only major streaming service that does both. That's one of the best things they have going for them. But, their subscription (Stadia Pro) still needs a lot of work to improve, as I described above.

For the moment, none of the services available is perfect.

I agree with this as well.

Well, if they give extra money to Capcom with Stadia i don't see the problem with the service being alive, but no idea how many people actually use it 🤷‍♂️
