Santa Monica Studio’s upcoming God of War Ragnarok will take well over 50 hours for 100% completion, which is roughly how long its 2018 predecessor took.

During a spoiler-free discussion between IGN’s Podcast Beyond crew regarding the upcoming God of War Ragnarok, it was revealed that a 100% completion run in the first playthrough can take well over 50 hours of playtime.

How much of that is fresh content vs. recycled quests and enemies. Recycling is fine if you add twists and your gameplay loop is good. The first game's combat got stale fast (luckily they gave you the blades), and the enemies were not varied and kinda meh. I might be spoiled by other character action games and the original gow games which I liked far better.

The main story is still only around 20 hours. I mean if you really dig in the original GoW, side quest and collectables extra fights, etc you could hit 40-50hrs, I don't see 70 being a stretch at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Remember God of War III? Game only is around 8-12 hours and yet they were able to put in every major and a good number of more minor gods and kill them off while telling a gripping narrative in that time frame.

Sure, they are completely different devs at this point - but if they couldn't do the same thing in around 20 hours, then I question their quality as devs. Given how well the 2018 release was though? I don't think we have any need to worry.

IMO the first one was a tad too long, the enemy variety in particular felt like it ran out way before the game was done. But this time they had the advantage of being able to build on top of what is already there so hopefully it's better in that regard

Yes this is what I was thinking about. I am not worried at all about repetitive content as this is basically 2 game stories condensed into one.

Also this is 4 years and an half after the first game so they had plenty of time to polish the game and the PS5 performance mode seems pretty good from the previews. Great image quality + very stable performance.

Fine by me. I was expecting the game to be a trilogy and was quite disappointed that it'd end with the second game. I'm hoping that the side content will feature tons of information about the lore and the other gods we didn't get to meet.

The OG game remained fairly contained in terms of cast and number of characters. You only interact with a handful of gods and mythological figures when there are a dozen others mentioned.
