GameSpot: 5 Shooters To Play That Aren't Call of Duty

Call of Duty, and Battlefield have stumbled out the gates and fans are starting to look elsewhere for FPS and 3rd Person Shooter games. Here's a list of 5 must play games you should check out.

Call of Duty and Battlefield 2042 were both games that were primed to hit all the usual high notes expected of a solid AAA shooter. Unfortunately both games received a lukewarm reception, with 2042 having a swath of stability issues and glitches at launch while fielding criticisms from its community over the handling of specialists instead of the original class system. Call of Duty: Vanguard on the other hand lacked excitement, with that community fragmented between Warzone, and those who preferred older games like Modern Warfare 2019, or Cold War. In this video we break down and share six shooting games that you definitely need to check out if you’re in the market for something different.

We’ve got a solid variety here with games like Splitgate pushing the needle into experimental territory fusing two classic games in Halo and Portal. There’s also excellent live-service games like Destiny 2 which recently had its Witch Queen expansion. Reviewer Phil Hornshaw called it the best iteration Destiny 2 has seen yet.

Apex Legend shits every other MP shooters out there , just play that .

Sad state of affairs that todays zombie plague of gamers are so fucking stupid they need to be told of alternatives to AAA bullshit like COD

Apex is the best shooter. Its so good and has been for years. Not without flaws, audio etc but great none the less. They heed to get cross platform accounts asap.

None of the mentioned games comes even remotely close to whay CoD offers and why people play it, quite the opposite I'd say - this video only proves that if you want just a simple run&gun FPS there's no alternative to CoD, which is sad really.

Gunplay is good but battle royale makes it suck.
Theres a 3v3 deathmatch mode thats pretty great.

Besides Halo, I assume, something you recommend? Infinite was my Multiplayer game of choice but i got tired of the same maps and modes. I will come back for the new maps.

I got tired of COD 2019. Amazing game but enough is enough. Warzone is full of cheaters and tryhards who will always be beter than me at that game. Fortnite's shooting sucks. I respect the technical marvel it is, but shooting feedback in that game is awful.

Apex is top of the pile.

Halo Infinite could be worthwhile when Season 3 launches, assuming they launch additional maps with Season 3.

Overwatch can be fun for casual play.

Not an FPS, but Splatoon 3 will satisfy if you are looking for a comparative 3rd person control based shooter.

I’ve never gotten in to Warzone, however I’m hoping Warzone 2 will be good next year.

Things aren’t good with this genre at the moment.

Here's a hot/shit take but I do not understand the love for Apex at all. The gunplay feels like dogshit to me, unless they've improved it bigtime in the last year or something but it just felt so floaty and there was barely any feedback on hitting a target.

I imagine you don't have sons... You can't generalize "todays plague of gamers" like that, there are all kinds of gamers like it used to be in the past, my son trys and plays everything, and doesn't stay too long in multiplayers because of that _ to continue experiencing new things. What he values the most in gaming, is the fun and the immersion he gets, no matter what genre or whatever...
And by the way, this is a fucking article by GameSpot, it's what they do as a business _ explore on subjects that they think are going to sell _ so lol at your entitlement for calling them "fucking stupid" because "they need to be told" like they asked for the guys help or something, lol
maybe next time think before 'post reactionary' for the sake of it, nothing is black and white.

Destiny (2) is the best there is. Love my gun collection! (Hate the fact that I have to start dismantling some of 'em now due to vault space but what are you going to do with 400'ish guns? I tend to stick with my favorites so perhaps not a huge loss).

I tried getting into Halo. It's not for me.

I'm so glad Gamespot is here to make a video about 5 FPS besides Call of Duty. There was a point where I was playing CoD and thinking: You know, This sucks. Are there NO other FPS games. Is this really the only one? But then Gamespot made a video. How was I to know about these games without them?

Thank you Gamespot. Please make a "5 RPGs to play besides Skyrim" video next.

I keep wanting to try Squad. I tried Insurgency: Sandstorm but I couldn't get into it. Shooter wise, I've been playing either Hell Let Loose or WW3.
I've been wanting to check out WW3, but the negative user scores put me off. Worth checking it now or waiting for it to be F2P?

Squad is phenomenal, there's a Star Wars conversion mod and it is incredible. Worth checking it out for that alone. Its called Galactic Contention if you want to look up some videos. Essential playing even if you only have a passing interest in Star Wars.

I tried Hell Let Loose on PS5, but it felt rough on there. I am tempted to try it on PC instead as I do enjoy games like Verdun or more hardcore shooters.

There's also a 9v9 mode that plays like Battlefield with capture points. They did two LTM runs of this mode and have hinted that it may soon become permanent.

Personally I think the Xmas train mode is the greatest non-BR mode that Apex offers but sadly it's only available at Xmas.

It depends on where you at with what you want to play. For me, i wanted something to satisfy that BF itch that 2042 left. I am pretty happy with my purchase but there have been a number of cases where there have been isuses and i would not play the game for a week or so. I'd hold off and wait for it to go F2P. I am happy with my purchase and the game has been improved by leaps and bounds since they relaunched it but i can see people not being happy as well. It seems with a number of YT people covering the game a lot of new people have joined so recent matches have been very one sided and not as fun.

I'm still hesitant while it's primary a BR game.

Fortnite got team rumble which is a tdm mode, and they made one season where you really couldn't level your BP up in that game mode.

I don't trust a game that's primarily a br game.

Apex was nice for a while, but I am tired of BR. Camping, looting and avoiding engagement is boring, but gives you the best chance to win.

This is the "best" part in BR if you ask me - people spend all the time to gear up and prepare for fight, but then when an actual encounter happens they run away like scared pussies that they are, or start spamming walls in Fortnite's case, it just boggles my mind why on earth all those people play those games, stick with a sandbox or RPG if you just want to mess around with the world without anyone wanting to kill you.

Apex legends would be perfect if it would have deadmatch mode. Hope that control mode will return
Yeah control as a mode is pretty good. The only thing is that it doesn't feel balanced at all. Most matches are landslide wins that are predetermined by the starting side. Not to say it is impossible to win but definitely less balanced.

I love playing arenas in Apex. My favorite thing in the game by far. The BR to me is basically the only BR I have been able to stomach for years. I have tried almost all of the free ones and Apex is the only one I come back to. That is likely do to the fantastic gunplay and overall fun to be had with the game itself

the only shooters worth ur time are Apex & TitanFall.
Overwatch is boorring
COD is magnet aim assist
Battlefield is a mess
Destiny doesn't care about PVP and its just too much at this point. Theres 4 million combos of guns/armors/perks/classes and like no maps. Actually as im typing this they are removing another map probably.
Halo was fun at launch. idk if it still is.

It's still kind of rough on PC. Doesn't fully optimize the gpu.

I really wanted to get into that game but power walking for 5 minutes isn't fun.

List is pretty bad. COD with a controller snaps to targets. The game devolves into how quickly you can press both triggers. Those people aren't going to like more hardcore shooters,, much less Tarkov which is more of a survival game and takes a long time to play and get into.

I love Insurgency Sandstorm because it has a very low TTK and focuses more on working as a team to capture objectives than rack up kills, but still doesn't take forever to get into.

Ready or Not is the new hotness to pay attention to. No PVP though, yet at least.

Thanks for the heads up on HLL, guess I can wait for a sale on it anyway.

Insurgency is ridiculously good fun. Been hammering it over the past few days.

Rainbow Six Siege
Insurgency: Sandstorm
Squad

Tactical, team based, chocolaty goodness.
None of them scratch the cod itch though since they aren't really similar.

That's the disadvantage of playing shooters with a controller. You can't aim that great with a thumb stick compared to a mouse.

Coming from mostly singleplayer Souls games, Destiny 2 was the first game that had me interested in online PvP FPS, K/D is still abysmal but having fun nonetheless, winning those 20 rounds in Trials this weekend hopefully won't take too long...
