Flipped in what way? Looks a continuation of business as usual to me, Xbox has not had a strong line up of exclusive games since mid-360. PlayStation has been nothing but consistent.
Ah those rose colored glasses and time. The first 2 years of the ps4 kind of sucked but Sony finally got the ball rolling and never looked back.

I mean that with the PS4 gen Sony started slow with their output and built up towards the end. While with Microsoft they had a stronger launch and then their output declined shortly afterwards. Just saying it seems like it's the reverse now.

But with Sony I'm not sure if they can maintain a consistent output after the 1st couple of years due to having not as many studios as Microsoft. Microsoft might be able to maintain a consistent level of output with the studios that they have.

As a gamer what's most important to me is the quality and not the quantity. I'll be watching both to see which one meets my expectations. I'm really more interested in playing great games than just a lot of mediocre ones. Goes for both sides btw.

Xbox is a better position even with delays. Halo finite, stalker 2 are massive AAA titles. Starfield would mean even a bigger year for Xbox since its RPG with a space/war/exploration theme coming from the makers of Skyrim and Fallout. Sony needs a new Horizon Zero dawn to come out this year or they be blown away.

Deathloop looks like an AA title, it's doubtful it have same impact, but you never know!

On what planet is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 a “massive AAA” title? 🤣

i wouldn’t have called the XBO launch particularly strong, neither set the world on fire, your comparing like a 3.5/10 with a 4/10. PS4 had one game slip (Driveclub by a year) whilst XBO moneyhatted two third party exclusives (Ryse and Dead Rising), but at least PS3 still had big first party exclusives in the PS4 launch year whilst the 360 had bupkis.

2 years is stretching it a bit. But my point was more that the XBO launch kinda sucked too, so it’s not like roles have reversed. PS studios did release great first party games in 2013 - just a few too many of them were on the PS3 that should have been cross-gen or PS4.

Halo will probably give XSX a boost, but Stalker 2 is considered AAA? I think Sony will be fine even with Halo out on XSX.

Well Halo will do well but it success will depend on if it's issues were not just technical ones. A year delay can fix technical issues but if there was something wrong with the games design (story, single player campaign etc) I'm not sure if a one year delay can fix them.

Everwild, what we saw wasnt even a game, more like a proof of concept. I reckon 2023 at best. By the time these Xbox games are out almost half the generation will be done.

Before then the only notable releases for me are Halo, which looks shite, and Starfield, which might be on PS5 too.

Bit wrong to say they are years away and ignore most of the projects Xbox studios are working on. So, here it goes.
Projects that will definitely release in 2021-22
  • Halo Infinite and Starfield started development in 2015.
  • Arkane Austin's Project(maybe Prey 2) and Wolfenstein III started development in 2017, same as Deathloop(Arkane Lyon) and Ghostwire Tokyo(Tango Gameworks). Ignoring Halo Infinite and Starfield, Arkane Austin's project has been in development for the longest period since Prey(2017).
  • Forza Motorsport
  • Grounded
  • Everwild started in 2017
Fable also started in 2017, but it will probably take around 6 years, as Playground Games are growing to 400+ staffs like 343i, Bethesda and Zenimax Online Studios.

Projects that may release in 2021-22
  • Hellblade II and Avowed started development in 2018. Although Hellblade II seems more likely for a 2022 release.
  • Next Forza Horizon
Zenimax Online Studios project(possibly new MMORPG) started in 2018, but it will take 6-7 years. Perfect Dark started in 2018, but its probably 2023-24 due to smaller team.

Rest. Too early to guess anything
  • Unless they were already working on it alongside Gears 5, Coalition next project started in 2019
  • InXile and Roundhouse Studios started working on there project in 2019 and Compulsion Games on early 2020. These teams are small and they will take more time for their games.
  • id Software next project started in late 2020, unless they were working on it alongside Doom Eternal.
  • Indiana Jones
  • Elder Scrolls VI
  • Project Mara
  • Tango Gameworks next project(unless they were already working on multiple projects)
  • Double Fine project after Psychonauts 2

I don't think Everwild will be 2022, in fact I hope it's not because it would likely mean the scope is not that which I was expecting.

Lol how is this news everyone knows this ffs.

Of course it shows Phil had zero budget till 2018. How could Fable, Avowed, perfect dark,, Brian fargo's new game ect go into production before they either purchased or formed the studios. So 2018 plus 4-5 year was always the time line for the games to start flowing. You know when the new studios were purchased and formed.

Zero budget? Come on Xbox had budget they just threw it away on stuff like Quantum Break.

I mean. In case of Perfect Dark there is no doubt that game is 2023 at the earliest. But Everwild and Fable? Both of those games are in development for 4-5 years and i fully expect Everwild to be released in 2022 (maybe 2023 because of COVID delays).

So, XGS and Bethesda in my opinion (excluding XGS publishing)

Halo Infinite - 2021

Psychonauts 2 - 2021

Forza Horizon 5 - 2021/2022

Starfield - 2021/2022

Everwild - 2022

Wolfenstein 3 - 2022

Arkane Austin game - 2022

Deathloop (after one year PS5 exclusivity) - 2022

Hellblade II - 2022

Avowed - 2022/2023

Fable - 2023

GhostWire Tokyo (after one year PS5 exclusivity) - 2023

New Zenimax Online game - 2023

Forza Motorsport - 2023

Compulsion new IP - 2023

Perfect Dark - 2023/2024

Gears 6 - 2023/2024

State of Decay 3 - 2024

inXile new IP - 2024

New id Software game - 2024

Indiana Jones - 2024

New game from Roundhouse Studios - 2024

The Outer Worlds II - 2024

TES VI - 2025

And that's damn strong flow of new games if you ask me. And of course i forgot things like that new small game from Obsidian (Project Missiouri), Project Mara, new game from Double Fine etc etc.
No chance of Everwild, Hellblade or Avowed making 2022.

Due to Covid it's possible, but...
Avowed is in development since 2018. same for Hellblade 2 (according to devs LinkedIn profiles). Everwild is in development since 2017.

So yeah...All of them could come out in 2022...

Not possible so much as likely.

The fact that Rare were saying they werent sure what of game Everwild is just 9 months ago was telling.

Avowed started pre-production in April 2018 according to LinkedIn, and there's just no way a a production this big will be out by 2022, especially with Covid.

If one of those games makes it out in 2022 they will have done well. All three will be a miracle.

Not sure I understand what you are getting at. What is “core forums”? Places like Neogaf? I doubt these places even slightly register to companies.

I think Halo is going to sell decently. It’s not going to replace Fornite or whatever, but they don’t need it to. Starfield will push a ton of consoles. Look at how popular Skyrim has been.

There is no way an Alan Wake remake is going to come anywhere close to Halo or Starfield when it comes to pushing consoles :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Yeah sure for the General public but not here.

For me 2023 sounds even too close. Each generation requires longer development, add to that the covid panorama and that 2023 sounds perfectly reasonable.

They said "we are still playing with different gameplay ideas" not "we don't know what we are making"

Big advantage for Avowed is, that they have entire world created (PoE world) and Obsidian is efficient studio.

So gameplay mechanics and style not finalised in July 2020.

Obsidian have six games they've been working which is the disadvantage in terms of resources for Avowed.

Yeah exactly. Perfect Dark as stated and Indiana Jones sound like 2024. Maybe Fable too.

The good news is that the GPU market should have settled down by then 👍.

So someone's bullshit wishlist on ResetEra is now conviniently a fact because it fits your narrative?
Obsidian has many people that have made some iconic games over the last 20 years. There will always be some smaller side projects alongside the bigger ones like Avowed. Even the guy who made Grounded goes back to KOTOR II
But they are not making multiple AAA games at the same time as Avowed. For example Josh Sawyer(Fallout New Vegas director) is making a Unity based non-violent RPG with a team of 5 people. After Avowed has shipped Tim Cain/Leonard Boyarsky's(Creators of OG Fallout and The Outer Worlds) next project will go into pre-production.

Putting some thought into this, it can be six if you consider Outer Worlds DLC and Grounded(full release on 2021). After this there will be four projects
  • Avowed, most of the studio is working on this.
  • 5 people in Josh Sawyer's Unity based non-violent RPG
One of the following two will go into pre-production after Avowed and be the next AAA RPG from Obsidian, other one will be a smaller game.
  • Tim Cain/Leonard Boyarsky's next project.
  • Whatever is Brandon Adler working on
Both of the above can also be one single project.
A team of 100 devs are working on Avowed. More will be pulled in as they wrap up Outer Worlds DLC.

Still think there is a chance of Starfield for this fall. If its at this years E3, then its close to a given.
Unless Microsoft think it might effect sales of Halo.

Deathloop has been delayed nearly an entire year. There's absolutely no chance for Starfield

a really bad time to purchase 3070

by the time those games hit pc, 8 gb vram will probably choke even at 1440p

and by that time, 3070 will have played no-nextgen game at playable framerates at 1440p lmao

Different studios though.. Look at Ubisoft, they could get massive games like Valhalla and WatchDogs out for the console launch, but Far Cry 6 has been delayed at least once.
Anyway like i said, if its at E3, then its almost a given as Todd says he prefers to officially reveal his games only a few months before release (as in full reveal with gameplay, screens, playable demo at events etc. The game has already been announced obviously). Of course that still could change because of Covid, but there is def a chance of this fall if thr game is at E3.

I never said that. "2021-22" means games that will release in that window. Should have clarified that maybe was just "maybe 2022"(seems like neo members can't edit after 5 minutes). Everwild started in 2017(so definitely 2022), Hellblade II/ Avowed started in 2018(so maybe 2022).

Starfield has been in development since 2015 by a much larger team. Still think 2021 is undoable?

All of Ubisofts line up besides Assassin's Creed was delayed, Legions included

It's to put iit nto perspective. Deathloop is a smaller game and it's been hit heavy. The only chance Starfield has at releasing this year is if Todd is fine with releasing another broken game

Development =/= full production
These are from 2018.
Todd Howard: 10 takeaways from Bethesda's studio director at Gamelab | VentureBeat
Bethesda’s creative team thought about Starfield, the new science fiction game that Howard announced at E3, for at least 10 years. After Fallout 4 shipped, the team started working on it full time. It is the first ground-up franchise that Howard has worked on at Bethesda, where he has worked for the past 25 years. “We go back and reinterpret and replay old games,” he said. “The difference with Starfield is there is no one to go back to. The ideas were all over the map. I enjoy “plus one” sequels as a player. I don’t enjoy making them.”
Bethesda's Starfield 'is playable,' Elder Scrolls 6 is in 'pre-production' says Todd Howard | PC Gamer
In an interview with Gameslice's Geoff Keighley on Monday, Todd Howard offered a little more detail on the status of Bethesda's next two major projects, Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. "I would say Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production, and Starfield is in production. It's a game we've been making for awhile," Howard said. "Starfield is playable. Elder Scrolls 6, not in that way yet."

This is a theory because they just bought a few devs including Bethesda. They think any unannounced exclusive has to be started from scratch when in reality they can just use what ever these devs were already working on.

So not full development

Both Montreal and Maryland were still focused on 76.
How can it be playable and not in full development? A lot of the work in Fallout 76 was done by Bethesda Austin and since release all the updates have been done by them. Starfield was always the primary focus.

You think you need 100+ devs to make some type of playable demo?

Todd back in early 2018 in a podcast talked about two projects. One that was in full production using their old animation system (Fallout 76) and the other that was still in pre-production that was using a new animation system (Starfield)

A game that started production before the budget cuts when Don and the other rats jumped ship. From 2014-2017 the money dried up. You don't think Phil would of loved a world money hat tour like a certain Sony ceo or purchased those studios years earlier lol. Why do you think things like bc and Indy were the focus they were dirt cheap.

The podcast was before any of those games were even announced, including 76, so no, it wasn't.

And Starfield isn't using their old animation system, so again, you're wrong.

When did I said anything about when Avowed will release? Don't just latch on to a convenient escape. I only said that "Obsidian is working on 6 games" is someone's bullshit wishlist from ResetEra, we even had a whole thread on this.

Hmm...aren't those the dates we assumed these games would come in at? Who was expecting Fable in 2022? TBH I thought that was a 2024 game. Perfect Dark, no one was expecting that before 2023, they "only" just showed a CG teaser trailer last December.

This honestly isn't news whatsoever IMHO; it'd be something if they said Halo Infinite was delayed to 2022, or Forza Motorsport is 2023/2024, or Everwild was getting delayed to late 2023, but that doesn't seem to be the case. What we do know for a fact is outside of Infinite, these games aren't coming in 2021 and I do think MS have stepped up on timed exclusivity deals with 3Ps to fill in the gaps, which is well as good: Sony's been doing the same thing.

However...none of this takes the Zenimax games like Wolfenstein 3 and Indiana Jones, or Starfield into the equation now does it? And we know all of those are both very far along and will be Xbox ecosystem exclusives (well, potentially not Indiana Jones since LucasArts Games is handling publishing, but we'll have to see what happens there). I think those count as pretty big exclusives and for some would be bigger deals than some of the games Kolbrielle clarified/chimed in on.
