Games with Great Soundtracks

Outlaws (PC) from 1997

Lots of sounds are from Roland keyboards. I had a Roland keyboard for many years and instantly recognised all the sounds and sound effects.

This game deserves a proper remaster. Add in all those extra stuff and I'm a happy man.

Hooboy, here we go. I'm going to leave some out to try and keep this list short enough to remain readable!

Monty on the Run (c64)
Commando (C64)
Contra and Super C (NES)
Castlevania (NES) - all three
Golvellius (SMS)
Wonderboy 3: The Dragon's Trap (SMS, Dragon's Curse on TG16 sounds better though!)
MUSHA (Genesis)
Alisia Dragoon (Genesis)

Shining Force II (Genesis)
YS III (I like the Genesis soundtrack better than the TG CD or SNES versions)
Ys Book I and II (Turbo CD) mainly book II

Castlevania IV and Drac X (SNES)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Shadow of the Beast (Amiga)

FTL (various)
Octopath Traveller (Switch and PC)
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (Various)
Hollow Knight (Various)

...and many more!

One of the best soundtracks imo is from Extreme G. I played the game like 20 years ago but still got the soundtrack present.

There's nothing more spreading 90's vibes like this.

[Edit]
And F-Zero + F-Zero X of course

Just listen to it, so pushing. Further.Faster.Better

We're likely all familiar with how great the OSTs are from other popular composers like Nobou Uematsu and Koji Kondo, but can you guys share any other tracks that are not, shall we say, mainstream?
Armored Core games all have great soundtracks and they are all very underatted. Kota Hoshino is a very talented composer.
Here are some examples:

TintoConCasera

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
I'm a sucker for Shin Megami Tensei battle themes:

They're just too good. Hope SMT V delivers too.

From the top of my head:

The Command & Conquer games
Dune 2000
The Age of Empires games (and Age of Mythology)
Re-Volt
Burning Rangers
Daytona USA
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Brigador
The Etrian Odyssey games
Persona games + Persona Q games
Streets of Rage 1 + 2
The Final Fantasy games
The Dragon Quest games
The Mana games
Chrono Trigger
R-Type Leo
Turrican 1 + 2
Nier and Nier Automata
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Link to the Past and Skyward Sword
The Super Mario games
Kirby Super Star
Wizardry V for the FM Towns
Ys I + II (the other Falcom games don't do anything for me, I am sorry)
Actraiser
Akumajou Densetsu (the Japanese Castlevania had the VRC6 soundchip)

- Afrika on PS3 by Wataru Hokoyama, this man did not have to go that hard for this game but the soundtrack is purely mind blowing!
- Uncharted soundtracks, 1 through 3 by Greg Edmonson, to me these are probably the best soundtracks in gaming, in my opinion Henry Jackman blew it with Uncharted 4.
- God of War 2018 by Bear McCreary, the opening reveal of Kratos is incredible, gave me goosebumps.
- Ghost of Tsushima by Shigeru Umebayashi, you really feel the atmosphere in this soundtrack and become absorbed in the world.
- The Last Guardian by Takeshi Furukawa is an honorable mention, especially because that game made me cry like a little girl at the end.
- Days Gone by Nathan Whitehead, very emotional, really puts you in the mood to explore that world.

Happy to see a fellow gamer consider Chrono Cross as their Favourite game soundtrack ever.

Personally I don't think anything comes close.

Other great soundtracks imho -

Einhander
Vagrant Story
Xenogears
Chrono Trigger
Streets of rage 1 and 2
Thunderforce 4
Super Castlevania
Radiant Silvergun
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Legend of Mana
NIER Automata

I've always loved Okami's soundtrack. I'm not really a soundtrack person, so there's only 1 that I really like and bother listening to outside of playing the game.

So much great music listed. Looking forward to finding new favorites.

I've played so much Borderlands 3, I think I've memorized every song & there is a bloody boatload of great music... Michael McCann (Deus Ex: Human Revolution/Mankind Divided) has so many fantastic tracks, & Jesper Kyd is always great. Finishing Move Inc. also knocked it out of the park, particularly on the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite & the Revenge of the Cartels tracks. A few other composers/artists are also within the catalog. Anyway, some favorites:

(Michael McCann) - Atlas HQ - Attacked

(Jesper Kyd) - Main Menu (Day)

(Finishing Move Inc.) - Wotan Awakens
