Franchise destroying Features

What features do you think would break a core mechanic in a franchise?

I think the move to "content expansion" features for game such as Warframe, Monster Hunter World, Pso2 and even games like Fortnite and Overwatch have really help those franchises prolong it's playebase.

But I feel like there are some features, though maybe probably desired by fans, would simply destroy a franchise:

Pokemon - Feature: Annual New Regions / Pokemon expansion in a single game - this would eliminate having Pokemon generation which would also destroy the Pokemon anime that follows the series loosely. Would also reduce hardware sales for Nintendo.

Call of Duty - Feature: Private servers. This may be a reach but COD is a franchise that is required to be annual. Having players play in private server would increase series longevity but reduce software release and sales.

Madden / FIFA - Feature: DLC players and animation in a single series. This is kinda an obvious one. Just having one game that could potentially be upgraded with new players and content would reduce the sales completely, it probably also not done in this way so that these sport licenses can be funded annually.

What other franchises do you know that could implement a feature, but doing so would destroy it?

Having to level the character in AC Origins and Odyssey even to finish the main story. But hey, psst, you can do it faster thanks to xp boosters. You're welcome!

Adding unicorns, god fights and other crazy shit also helps so much in maintaining the immersion in the new AC games...
